Great Serpentskin

Against my better judgement, I sold it. Is there any way of getting it again, or am I gonna end up losing a ton of gameplay?

It is only used as part of a quest to get an item that can be bought in later shops.


With great serpentskin you have the traveler recover faster and get the barheim key sooner I guess. You also get an item.

Without the serpentskin, you have the traveler recover a little slower, and don't get the item, but if memory serves its available in a town about 4 towns from that point or something to that effect. Not a real big loss was my understanding /shrugs.

This is one of the things I didn't like about FFXII. "Loot = Cash! Sell your loots!" "Oh hey, btw, you aren't supposed to sell that one. You'll use it later!" Gee, thanks for the heads up.

Was there any hint in the game that you weren't supposed to sell the Serpentskin?

Not that I caught, save for the fact that it didn't net me a lot of cash.

The game designers on XII were sadistic. I mean have you seen how hard it is to activate Exodus death blow ?

Along the same lines, is there something that the Bunch of Needles (or whatever it is, reward from killing the flowering cactoid) is used for b/c I accidentally sold it a long time ago.

Yeah, it's worth like 10 Gil right? Apprently the Great Serpentskin is supposed to be exchanged to the Nurse Lady or Traveler and he gives you the Barheim Passage Key which leads to the Zalera Esper. Funny thing is, I've almost beat the game 100%, gotten the Barheim Key, and I still have the Great Serpent Skin in my Loot list. I'm hanging onto it.

I still have the bunch of needles in my inventory, and I am at the end of the game.

Not sure if its used for anything, but I've kept it.. So far it hasn't been used though. If that helps any.

Doing some searches, it appears the Bunch of Needles is only used for selling it to get Stone Bolts package from the Bazaar.

Read back. It's been determined it's not NECESSARY to get the Esper, but rather nets you some swank rewards upon completion of the quest.

I was just about to make a topic about this, same thing happened to me.

So, if I understand this right, I can still obtain the esper later in the game?

EDIT : Or, better yet, the Barheim Key.

Yes...just not the reward set that entails having the Serpent's Skin.

Yes, I know it's not necessary. I've known that from the moment I got the key and didn't have to exchange the Skin for it. I said "supposed to" because the guide hints at it apparently.

Enjoy the rest of your playthrough of the game. Definitely will love as you get closer to the ending as things unfold more clearly.

I, literally, sold that yesterday because I was so sick of seeing it in my loot list...serpentskin...augh. And the bunch of needles, too!

At least I figured out you can sell Bhujerban Mandhu back to random Bhujerbans for 1000G...

I'm so beating this game, and then buying the guidebook.

Do the Whiskey sidequest early if anything. 1000 Gil is nothing but pocket change at the end of the game and it's so easy to rack up then. Early on though, that money is literally worth more than gold.
