Favorite Sword!

I know your favorite sword is the Masmune, first of all because you're all so simple that you like best the sword that brings the highest numbers. Also, I think that it has a good graphic, and looks really good on most characters, so it isn't a bad choice, but I want you to think about all the swords, and other weapons, hammers and whatnot are allowed, sure, that you've used. Which did you have most fun with? Which intrigued you most? etc.

My favorite sword is undeniably the Rune Sword. It's the wierdest sword in the game, next to the Were Sword, with strange abilities, an awesome graphic, and it comes in in the nick of time to make my Thief so much cooler. Because I like it so much, I sometimes use it instead of other weapons from then on until he's a Ninja and pretty much MUST start using the Katana.

My favorite weapon overall is the Hammer, just because there's nothing more badass than the WM swinging it like he/she does.

My second favorite weapon is the SIlver Sword, since I work so hard to get it, hold onto it longer than any other weapon in the game, and I just... become... attatched to it. Especially the first one I buy. If I accidentally sell it, I never buy another, and when the Ice and Flame swords come along, I still use the Silver, and don't sell it until I get the Sun Sword (except if I'm trying to go low level or kill Kary before Class Change, of course)

So... Do any of you have any peculiar opinions on this/like this?

Definitely the silver sword, because the first time I got it, I remember clearly thinking, "Holy crap, I thought the fighter was good, but now he's totally awesome!"

Otherwise I don't really know. See, I typically then beat Lich, then my next step is get the airship, get the class upgrade, then get the Xcalibur. So I don't really get any inbetween weapons...

This tends to be everyone's incentive for doing an all White Mage game. I love hammers!

Anyways, my fave sword is the Ice Brand, seeing as for some reason whenever that sword is in an FF game it's always one of the best at that point...

Defender, because when my small, unintelligent, naive little seven year old self came across the Defender, I was completely confused. It says Defender, but it's a weapon?

My mind froze as old NES games sometimes do.

I would say the Xcalibur is the best weapon. But you must a have a Knight to use it. There is also alot to be said for the silver sword once you get over the price tag.

In the DoS version, I came across a sword called "deathbringer" when I beat a death knight (EVILMAN). That's my favorite. If anyone knows what the NES version of it is called, I'd like to know.

If it's the latter then it was probably the Bane Sword.

Yup, it's the equivalent of a Bane Sword (I believe it casts "scourge" when you use it, though I could be mistaken).

Masamune looks cool and does a lot of damage even when a White Wizard is using it, so I like that one. Most of Fighter/Knight's swords are also pretty cool. I never sell the Fire and Ice Swords, and both the Defender and Sun swords are great too. Wasn't Defender the green sword? I think that one also looked very good.

It's a toss-up between the silver and ice swords.

When I get the silver I finally feel my group is strong enough to handle world travel.
When I first got the ice that was when I thought "Hey, I don't need to blow cash on weapons anymore!"

Yeah. This is probably the best weapon in the game, really (Wierdly enough, that is "unless" you are a knight), since if you use it to RUSE yourself 2 times (or sometimes even once), you become virtually unhittable except by criticals and magic.

A Thief with a Dragon Sword in one hand and a defender in the sheath can kill Chaos. (Trust me, I did it)

Defender. In all the FFs i remember there being defenders in, they always seem to be the most powerful weapon at the stage of the game as well as giving a nice defence bonus. ultima weapon (DoS) is also a weapon i have have fond memories because it made the battle with shinryu much faster than i'd ever imagined.

I can't quite remember what it cast(ed?), but that's probably it. It improved my red mages stats more than the sun sword. I think I have two of them...

So, yeah. Bane sword's my fave.

My favourite sword? The silver sword. Granted, it's not the best in the game, but it's a huge upgrade when you get it and you could be using it for some time to come.

The Mythril Sword because I remember playing the puzzle so many time to afford to buy it at Elfheim. I was so proud. The Ice Brand is also cool too.

Turns out that sword isn't a bane sword. It doesn't even exist in the original ff1. My fave, in this case, shall be the coral sword. Useful for a thief, that one. Plus, I used to think it was made of coral as in red coral (the skeleton of red "life form" coral is sometimes used as a gemstone), so I imagined this red, shiny, gem-ish sword, and the sprite seemed to fit with that. Then the wonderswan version had to come along and crush my dreams.

I only weilded the Defender until I got through the Air Fortress, and then I got the excaliber, so I can't say if I liked it or not. I will say it was the most powerful at the time, so it had its use.
I'd say I like the Excaliber, because of the power, the amount of time before I could get to it, and the name. Its just a shame that only Knights can use it.
And the Cat Claw was pretty sweet. It made the Black Wizard a weak attacker. He could only hit for 200 each time, but its better than 30 something.

Well, the catclaw is a knife not a sword.
It's cool when you finally get it though.
I enjoy popping back to the beginning areas of the game with it to see my weak little black mage slaughter an ogre by hand.

The masamune is nice of course, but I just don't get enough use out of the thing to love it.

catclaw turns black wizard into a decent fighter which is a big step up because you dont have to suck up MP every turn to do higher than 20 damage.

I'm fairly sure that sword isn't from the NES version; there IS a weapon elsewhere in DoS that casts Scourge (BANE) but I recall this specimen being one that casts Death (RUB) on one enemy instead. It doesn't kill enemies in one hit, but it is a weapon stronger than the Sun Sword, and one which the Red Mage/Wizard can wield.

Weapon-wise, I MUST say:

Masamune --obvious reasons.
Thor's Hammer -- I find it ultra-efficient, to the point of NOT wasting my Holy 4 on Dark Knights.
Sasuke (FF Origins) -- the sound effects are just cool-sounding.

They should really call the Sun Sword the Solar Saber or something. Having the word Solar in a weapon would make it sound so much cooler.

Acctully, I agree, The Sun Sword, Flame Brand and Ice Brand were amazing weapons.

I think I'll have to agree with some of the others here who said their favorite was Defense. It's a sword that I tend to get (I still play FF1) early on in the game, and it's the best weapon my Knight will have until my group makes its final run. I'm not usually that impatient to get Xcalibur.
