Sometimes (usually when I'm browsing the web), my laptop screen will just go blank. It's usually black but the light is still on. It's making me mad. Although the last time it did it, the screen was tannish.

I was thinking it may be overheating, at 49C. Any helpful suggestions?

Specs?

49C is not an overheating temp

KDS 17" LCD would go "black" and stay black with light green, not orange.
This was after 6months of operation, and one could turn the monitor off, leave it off for hours, then come back and get 5min-1hr out of it before it would go black again.

A replacement KDS LCD gave similar symptoms at 5months.
Sometimes black would instead by a fuzzy flicker which would persist for an hour or so then result in the final drop to black screen with green light.

All research I did and forums I posted in suggested that the monitor was just bad. Not sure if your problem is similar, but your LCD screen may be going out... though I do not know as much about portable computing vs desktop.

Is it possible you're not exactly browsing the web, but looking at a youtube thing without touching the computer for say 10+ minutes?

1.30GHz, 504 MB of RAM.

Windows XP Home Edition
20 GB for XP and 20 GB for Ubuntu
Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS 910 GML Express Chipset Family

Need anything else?

And to MecaKane, no, I'm not a dumbass at computers. So stop acting like a jackass.

rih29, your comment to MecaKane was uncalled for. He asked you a perfectly logical question.

No, he did not ask me a perfectly logical question. He was meaning to be a smart-alec about it.

The only one that I see being a smart alec here is you so cut it out. Do you have it set to sleep/hibernation? Did you check all your cables? Your video card?

Did you try searching for a solution on Google?

Yes, I did check everything. It hasn't happened lately.
