Do advertisements work on you and convince you to buy the product they're advertising?

Personally, advertisements don't work on me most of the time.

They influence EVERYONE in some way.

Depends on how they sell it. It could work, or discourage me greatly.

Usually, I'll only get encouraged for the things I already want, and show indifference to the others.

Some advertisements make me despise the product. :p Not exactly the effect advertisers are looking for.

Some marketing stuff obviously work on me. Take Apple. They market the hell out of their stuff. But that doesn't mean their commercials work on me. Their commercials bug the hell out of me. But the way they present their products is superb.

Adverts have a major effect on me :(

They might make me aware of a product I didn't know about, but they won't make me buy it unless I would have wanted it anyways.

EoFF can ram the Iron Man movie down my throat all it wants and I'm still not watching it.

No effect at all.

Sure, some advertisements have an effect on me. Sometimes I'm actually made aware of a product that seems appealing that I didn't know about before, and sometimes I'm completely turned off the product that's being advertised. Depends on the quality and design of the advertisement, really.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

some do, some don't....most of the time the advertisement itself is not what convinces me to buy a service or product, it's the service or product itself

They influence just how much laughter I produce per day.

I avoid situations where I'm exposed to ads. Ad blocker in Firefox + no TV + never listening to the radio = not many ads in my life, relatively speaking. I'd like to think they don't "work" on me, but they probably do subconsciously somehow.

Exactly. Might not be to buy their products and stuff, but they do affect us. I mean if you think about it, we are bombarded with plenty of ads each day. Everywhere you look there are ads.

EDIT: The exception is if you live in the middle of nowhere, without electricity and no human contact.

Only when it comes to stuff I can eat. Ads for other stuff (books, movies and such) only work if I wanted it anyway and now know that I can get it.

Sometimes I find out about a movie/game that I didn't know about, so it gets me to bye it if I like the franchise or it looks appealing.
But most of the time, as I hang out with a bunch of college graduate graphic designers, I've learned to judge the quality of advertisements (i.e. what works with it, what doesn't, what they shoud have done and what they shouldn't have).

Advertisements never work on me, unless I happen upon something that I'm actually in the market for at the time.

ad's work on me SOMETIMES meny advertizers do ad's like:

'it's not $100! not $500 it's $49.99!!!!'
and then when you read the screen it has in a bubble (3*49.99!!)

that ticks me off

Of the very few ads I see daily, most I completely ignore, possibly after filing away the product name just in case it comes up in conversation. I also get kicks out of making fun of how blatantly commercial ads can be, especially ads from the 1950's~1980's. I also find the psychology of advertising fascinating in itself.

Oh, wait, the topic was whether they work on me? If you're asking whether they make me buy more than I normally would, not in the least. I'm very thrifty.

Depends on the ad, the prensentation, and the product, I mean, "This is something, it's good," won't persuade me.

every once in a while I'll see a commercial and say "hey that looks cool!" but most often no. The presentation and all that really make NO difference in me wanting it or not, the only factor is me wanting it.

Nope. Advertisements have no effect on me. partly 'cause I have no money.

Advertisements advise me on whats (newly) available or of some special price, but I wouldn't buy something I didn't need. Age and experience has trained me on what would be a fad in my life and whats a keeper. They may prompt me to go and get something sooner than I was thinking of, or from a different outlet than I had thought, in order to save money in the long run.

Some advertisements affect me, but it is usually in a negative way, such as me getting pissed off because I want to watch something interesting, and then an ad pops up. An advertisement needs to be very good, and hit spot on for some of my interests for me to get interested in a product because of an advertisement alone. 95% of the crappy ads I see do absolutely nothing except annoying me.

hardly ever, and that includes all the advertisements i've seen online. if something does catch my eye, i can guarantee they have a 1 in a million chances of getting my money :mog: .

That ad does nothing except annoy me. I hate it when you don't know what is being advertised until the end.
