View Full Version : Does it pay to upgrade in NES?

I was just looking at hackster and I noticed that at lvl 50, most classes are stronger if they lvl to 50 before class change. It is most dramatic example would be the Bi. Belt if you take median values his vitality at lvl 50 should be a whopping 69, but a lvl 50 Master's vitality is only a 49.

What gives?

Seems like then the best strategy is to class change right before TOF so you get maximum upgrade then put on all the cool armor and spells.

The average values given for the upgraded classes do not take into account the base stats. They assume that the character class started at level 1, which in the case of the advanced classes would give them base stats of 0 in everything (with the exception of Magic Defense).

Yes, FFHackster only displays the values as if you started with the upgraded class from level 1.

Basically, the stats you're looking at get added to what their stats would be as the lower class. Moreover, it just pays to upgrade in the NES version because it's the hardest one.

Basically put the base stats of both the base and "upgraded" classes are essentially the same. What differs is their equipment/magic choices. Nearly all classes gain the use of extra, more powerful equipment, as well as new spells. The only class that does not benefit at all from the class change in any way whatsoever is the Black Belt. A Level 50 Fighter, on average, will have the same base stats as a Level 50 Knight. The only thing that is dependant upon when you change classes is the MP of the Knight and Ninja. Basically they only start gaining MP from the level after the one which they upgrade on. In other words, a Knight who class-changed at Level 10 will have more MP at Level 20 than a Knight who class-changed at Level 15.
