I do see a difference... It is a bit less grainy and crap. I have a pickle jar in my room labled "savings for PS3"... So far I have $300...

I was going to come in and talk about PS3's problems with high-def support for backwards compatibility but apparently it's been recently patched. (http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2007/1/24/6735)

I think that shot looks the same, but yeah. They got on that firmware problem faster than I'd thought they would.

PS3 doesn't graphically improve PS2 games, especially if you don't have HD. Games will look the same.

Some PS2 games looked crappy on PS3 before, but with that update they look just as they should.

Well, I posted just one shot, I have more here (http://forums.ffproject.net/showthread.php?t=978). It does look a lot better, even on my crappy NTSC 19 inch TV.

The squished screenshots came from Nero DVD's tool. (I captured it to DVD then took some shots out of it with Nero). Maybe that is why the difference is not that noticeable here but I have both the PS2 and the PS3 connected to it and the difference is amazing.

I was ambivlent about my PS3 since the PS3 games are too few and mine needs parts to connect to the net ( :( ) but now I'm in love with it :D:D:D

I was under the impression that the PS2 could do the same thing to PS1 games with a little tweaking?

I have to own a HD TV to play a PS3? I think I might own one... I am not sure what kind of TV I own. Its like Samsung or something. 52 inch. LCD I think... wow I am dumb BYE!

Without an HDTV to play a PS3 on, a lot of the graphical improvements on it will not be effective. A 52-inch LCD TV is almost certainly HD, if it was purchased in the last couple of years.

I can see a little bit of difference. If it was skewed correctly I think it would be easier to see.

I don't see much of a difference. It would be easier if you put screenshots from both PS2 and PS3 side by side.

Maybe she's talking about a router :p. The PS3 doesn't come with equipment to set up an entire home network :p.

you should post some eye candy, such as calm lands, macalania, etc. It does look heck of a lot better though, then again I have a crap tv.

I don't think the argument "this is what games USED to look like sony sucks" isn't going to hold much weight with anyone.

I just asked to see what they looked like before the firmware update, quit trying to start :skull::skull::skull::skull: like you always do.

Renmiri

I think your crazy =P
Well that is true :p

But regardless of my madness, I'm quite sure, as I said, I had both a PS2 and a PS3 tied to the same 19 inch TV one on line 1 and one on line 2 and it was a lot sharper on the PS3.

My PS2 is very old though so maybe that is the problem ?

The PS3 came with wireless net but it refuses to connect to my wireless net without a system upgrade. And system upgrades come... from the net. Catch 22.

I can download it to my PC but I have to save it to a USB drive and I don't have one with 100 MB free yet. Grrr....

But X looks so good I'm forgiving Sony for it ;)

MecaKane

Just hook it into your router with an ethernet cord and do the update then put it back wherever.

It's not all PS2 games that had stupid glitches like that. Clearly FFX is working at 110% for Renmiri, and she doesn't have the method to update the PS3.

So, Renmiri, are you using the same type of cable for the PS2/PS3? Are you using the exact same cable? (I'm pretty sure PS3 cable can fit/work in the PS2).

If things are clearer, it could be some slight resolution tweaking due to a different (or newer) cable. Old games are not supposed to look 'better' as the PS3 does not upscale. (But you don't have HD anyway)

I had both the PS3 and the PS2 using the 3 yellow, white & red analog video conectors (both sets using identical triple cable sets as far as I know) going inside my VCR as line 1 and 2 then got the VCR coax line out (circular, 1 pin) going to my game TV. Unfortunately I have just moved my PS2 to my kid's TV so that they get their mitts off my PS3 :D

Maybe I'm going crazy then :p

Anyhow, I uploaded this 1 minute clip to Youtube, hopefully you guys will be able to see a difference.

tbh, it looks even crappier than a PS2 in that youtube link. I doubt that any attempts to show how one upstages the other through the use of screencaps or gameplay rips will be successful without a common frame of reference (ie, from a ps2 and a ps3. a ps1 too for the pedantic among us ;)) that have gone through the same conversion processes, and even then, as people have said, a good portion depends on the stuff connecting it all.

However, and slightly off topic, that link to "ps3 vs wii - Apple Style" I saw on that youtube made my day.

Placebo effect. It's your brain trying to justify your early ownership of the Playstation 3 in a time when there is actually not many true justifications available.

Could be.... :eep:

But I swear I see it, like all loony scientists convinced that their theory is true :p

Pay attention on the Bahamut overdrive on my youtube video linked above. On the PS3 I was able to notice straight lines (white lines of light) on the explosion whereas on the PS2 it was blurrier and the lines weren't noticeable.

You can notice the same white lines on this other PS3 video I did of Dark Kingdom, a PS3 game.

Oh yeah, there is one thing the PS3 could improve with PS2 games. FFX has a tendency to sometimes overload the PS2. For example when Shiva is killed, he framerate will drop by something like 5-10 fps. The PS3 would be able to render them at full speed.

Also, IIRC, the Bahamut overdrive is supposed to have a blur effect on it. If it doesn't on PS3, I'd say it's something that is missing :p.

A bit off topic, but I heard of some Japanese nerds who remade ff10 for NES editing the ff2 game. it looks really weird. google it and some sites have some screenshots.

I thought FFX was supposed to look much worse on the PS3 since PS3's backwards compatibility is crap apparantly. I really dont know if this is true and from what you say it isnt.
