Hii, i'm new at making sigs so i was hoping that i could get some comments on them, to see what other people think. Now, they're no where near as good as many others in here so i don't expect you to say so i just wan't some honest feedback. I'm not that good but i hope to be in the future...

I think the shiva one is ok, just plain...

well these 4 are made with photoshop 2.0! it's complete CRAP, but my normal computer is totally messed up so i had to settle with what i had...:(

the text is the only thing i don't like, and i MAAAAAY have gone a little overboard with the effects :p...

Er...ya certainly agree with you.The text doesnt blends well with the BG that's why it looks kinda poor.And the effects are to crowded.If the sig is smaller in size it'll look great too.And the ultima weapon itself is a little jagged or choppy...you can fix it to become better.It's a good sig considering I couldn't do those.Anyway good luck.

TiMsTeR_Of_hEaVeN - I think your Shiva one is the best so far, from this page. Easy on the eye, nice colours. Just a bit overly large for my personal tastes :p

The latest - coca cola text! XD I find the lights look a bit like an overused flare lens type effect but I like the swirly stuff going on faintly in the background. Maybe you could limit the lights to one edge or corner.. Also with all those effects everywhere I think its hard for you to make that text stand out no matter what you do to it.

I'd suggest moving the keyblade up and to the left maybe, or getting a larger section of it. Taking away the effect except from some of the right side. Then you can hopefully see your text and make it a bit more simple.

At the moment it hurts the eye a bit. But as I say some of the stuff going on looks good, just try and make it a bit more subtle? :)

here's another one, very simple (to be honest i didn't really have any ideas on what to do with it but i'm thinking of changing it a bit so it has more edge, though not as much as the previous :p, and adding ONE effect, and maybe removing the tree branches from tifas face... not sure i want to add a border though... i don't care too much for borders...)

The text is the best one! :) Hmmmm maybe you overreacted with the sparkle brushes :D Maybe you should have put a shadow with the fuzy circles ;) you know around the cloud and aeris

The ladies one was cool but Tifa didn't seem to fit into the heroine theme, Id've said that Aeris was the heroine of FFVII. But then again, it could just be the alive ones ;)

Rikkus cool but I dont like the gradient or the font of the caption. :)

yeah i was just waiting for someone to say that i should exchange tifa for aeris, and to be completely honest i tried to fit aeris in too, but it got all cluttered up so i decided to only use tifa, although i love the way aeris looks in AC and really wanted to use a pic of her. BTW i said the ladies (not heroines i was very careful not to use that word...), and well i could've put lulu eiko rikku selphie quistis yuffie (eeh..Quina?) etc. instead of any of the ones in the pic...

and yeah the text ruins it all... i'm deleting it now...

i actually wanted to make one of just alexander, but i decided to just use his wings... haven't found a good pic of alexander (just him preferably, many pics contain bahamut) :( so if anyone has a tip of where i can find one i'd really appreciate it, or if you have one already i can look at that too...

just alpha to selection and gradient fill / blend tool ;) not that hard actually but it has a nice effect...

Agreed.. You're prob doing this already but this helped me alot... i DL'ed brushes and stuff for PS to use for BG'S, or you can look at other sig makers' sigs to get ideas and to get inspired, because after doing alot of sigs you tend to lose inspiration.. anyway like i said before you're probably doing this already!

yeah i look at others for inspiration sometimes... although i don't want to get too influenced soo i try to avoid it as much as possible... inspiration is better when it's by something in real life...i mean YOUR OWN life something you and people can relate to :)

It's kind of plain but nothing bad, since you might remake it. It doesn't seem mandatory to have a render, more like add more text. And maybe change the color of the glow on "feel the magic". Keep up the good work.

I haven't taken a look at your work lately, it has really improved very much, the red eye sig is so scary and very very well blended, I just think that the right side of the text look out of place, but still very cool.
The other latest sigs are all so great, that 'love is a special feeling' one is fantastic, it got a very nice cheerful feeling into it, the others as well. keep them coming, keep them blooming. ^^

Hm abstract banners are quite hard to make! I've been trying to make one but when a sig with a render the focal is on the render. If u don't have a render you have to create a focal!:) Second one is too messy! Hm try to smudge with the brush circle 19 (not fuzzy circle) and creat some pastel rainbow colours :)

Last one bg is kinda empty, try to fill it more and mixing it with the render. Also gold goes ok with black but even better if it had a glow ;)


Don't put text on an abstract banner! It's not really necessary! On the third one it says' faster thabn lighting' but sig is pretty still you knwo there's no action in it. Perhaps start there :D

Hm not really :( The bg is messy and it looks lq :( The second one is nice but bg looks pixelized and noisy :( Next time use the Van Gogh option it gets clearer :(
First one doesn't really know what the render is but work on contrast also the font doesn't fir, try to use Times New Roman and Serif in less than 13!

I like the first one! It's way better than ur last one still the cyan gives too much bright to the sig! I understood what u wante dto make you wanted the render to contrast with the bg and her bikini in fact match the colour of the bg but perhaps a different mix of light blue (not cyan) and yellow would be nicer :D text on sig n. 1 is on a very good way :)

The Jessica Alba sig si cute but the first one the bg is still not right there is no flow :\ perhaps if you'd have smudged a bit around the bg where the layer is it'd be better :( Sometimes It's really hard to grab a abstract sig and then put a render and fit perfectly)

thanks for the advice :) i've a new sig... which was a request from a friend... she thought it was unfair that i only made sigs with girls and not a single one with a guy (of course he just has to be half naked:rolleyes2 ) so i said i'd make her one... and well... since i was at it i thought that i might as well make a couple so that people won't complain any more (all the girls kind of ganged up on me...:p) so here's the first one, girls this is your treat... meh maybe the sig isn't interesting in itself but at least you're all going to like the guy... c4ds aren't that bad to use! Just paste them and adapt to the render. Never EVER make a bg with a c4d! lately a lot of beginners have been doing that and actually I never tried but the banner it's just not natural like that. For this sig smaller would be better << And effects should be around him not on the corners! Forget the corners put effects around the renders and light there otherwise people will look at the big spot of light on the left instead of looking at the guy.... even though he's half naked :drool:

Well, Polaris I do not agree with you about the white spot what so ever, heh.
I think it gave a nice water refelction to the BG so the brushs on the right should be of the same type and not stars that'd make it look er... sort of decided in theme, cause stars obviously don't mix with water that way. ^^
I'm also going to add that the render needs more blending and text is too big again, BUT (I hope you didn't think I'll keep on going about complains xD) the lightening is wonderful, the colors of the BG is nice and the render is very well cut, I thought it was render and not a stock when I first looked at the sig.
About C4Ds I don't know how long you've been into graphic, but you gotta try 'em and see how they work, you don't have to make work out of them, just try them and all, I'm sure you'll like them. Of course you move to that stage when you feel you're ready but remember there's no such thing as 'Begginer' or 'proffisional' we are all artists as long as we can make something that people enjoy look at. :)
I like that you choose what YOU like instead of choosing what HAS more work in it, this makes you a real artist if you know what I mean. I like your work, and your style and ideas and if I have forgot to mention it then... that guy is really really handsome, thanks for the treat and good luck. ;)

Well I mean beginner like people who are making sigs for the first time. And trust me when they paste the c4d then the render on top is everything less art!

Just keep making banners :) And try using c4ds and other stuff :) you never know :)

and about the sigs so far... some remakes may show up in a while... because I came up with so many ideas for each sig that i couldn't fit into the same sig so i'll see what I'll do... and that way I can use your advice too...

but for now the guy theme continues, next up is Chad Michael Murray, mostly know from the series One Tree Hill... this time i was too lazy to put up the stock image(s)... but if anyone really wants to see them just pm me...

Looks cool kinda choppy and blured. Perhaps with unshaped mask and sharp would do it!

I think you are affraid of changing your style, but I think you should definatly try out new things! :) Don't be affraid to try and come out a really crap because it's normal! Everytime we try a certain style the firsts will always be bad and then we just learn new secrets. Explore GIMP in a new sig that you won't show and make a mess out of it! Put textures then colours then c4ds then filters and out of that mess you'll see what you can better.

An advice: try to make a sig with a black background post the render in the middle and play around it. Don't touch the bg! Leave it like that black and out effects around the render. You'll be quite amazed with the outcome :)

perhaps you should go to planetrenders (http://planetrenders.net) They'll be really harsh but it's the best way to develop. At first i though they were rude and stupid but with time I understood some of them were true.

And the sig looks great, I think you've done well choosing black/white over colors, but the picture on the left is not as well blended as the one on the right, that you need to fix. I admire your border though.
Just play around with your program and try new stuff, but don't give up on your OWN style, that you should always keep. ;)

thanks for the comments you guys :) I'm trying stuff with c4ds but it's still mostly "blah" but i'm slowly getting there :) when I make something I think is alright i'll post it... i'm playing around with all sorts of things so i'm bound to make something different... and i'll try out the idea with the black background and effects/blending just around the render Polaris, sounds cool...

for now there are two new sigs (actually just one sig but two versions) it's of Megan Fox, the girl from the movie Transformers... which one is better?

1st one! Yes that's a huge improvement and so far I see no brushes :eek: First one is better less saturated. Perhaps making it smaller! When you make sigs that are too big it's piece of cake to find bad spots! try to make them 425*124 or 350*150

yeah I normally prefer smaller too but I'd made only smaller ones for a while and got tired... so i'm just doing dome bigger ones for a change...

I prefer the first version because the light source is better positioned than in the second one and there's depth in the whole image while the second version lacks that. Nice BG and good blending even though it really needs a bit of more work there. Really good try with no brushs but also remember brushs are needed sometimes, using the default brushs to make splended effects is what makes a good artist, so don't give them up completly but don't use them as the major thing in your work.

hahaha it's actually a GUY and not a girl... (but don't worry i think he looks like a girl too, but my friend always freaks out and goes "it's a GUUUUUY!!!" when i say so + she really likes the band and thinks they're hot so i've gotten used to it... but still it's a guy XD *coughNOTcough*)

and also she requested alot of effects... but I agree the guy get's all swamped in effects...

Yes but if a person requests a sig and says lots of effects you better advise the person that lots of effects = not good! ^^ At least I think that people who take request should present ideas but not always the idea is smth good! :)

Hmmm, I think the first is really rad, nice work with the C4Ds. As first try I am so impressed with the outcomes, they are pretty (of course except from the fact that the second one contain a guy who looks like a girl xD and that it's swallowed up) Anyway, really good work, Tim! try to look for C4Ds' tutorials they'll help you understand the way they are used better even if they are for Photoshop and not GIMP they'd still help, all you need to know is the standards then you can go skitching on your own. ;)

All I can say is that the first two totally ROCK!! they are great with smudging and all, wow!!
I am not that much of a fan of the last one, it has too much empty space in it.
But keep remembering that the first two kick! ;)

1st one is empty :( LIke too much of the same brushes :(
2n one colours are too bright! I took the liberty to change it, so when i present critics it won't be too hard to listen!

Now all I did is quite simple I added a gardient map (Light purple to dark tone of a light yellow) and set it as multiply! Also to give a bit of brightness I added anothe rlayer with Gradient map in black and white and blur it then reduced the opacity by half (I don't remember if in softlight)
Then I rippled and displace, set as multiply to darkne it and erase in some parts :) Then I added text in Arial Bold

See how is softer and smaller an less empty? And it was simple! :)

Take it easy, Polaris. It is not a terrible thing to use brushs from time to time. -.-

The first sig is empty, yes but I guess that's its theme, not every sig has to be crambled with stuff but it still counts as so empty. I'd have added more eyes and maybe some kind of a scene behind the heartless to make it look less empty.

The second, I guess it looks nice, all it was missing is depth and that was added when Polaris played with it, but as I look at both of them something about yours makes me feel like I like it better before the changes. It looks dreamy and softer and simpler. Just keep trying and playing around, you'll learn more techniques by playing around than by reading tuts and such stuff. Good luck, Tim!

thanks for the comments guys, although i do have to say something, first of all... the first one only has ONE brush in it and that is the rain, everthing else is just filters and smudging of the render, and i was going for the more simple theme yes i love the render and will probably make a wallpaper with it with more stuff in it and a scenery and all that (just have to find some stock images)... although second is pretty much packed with brushes :p

Polaris the thought of making a colab is GREAT we should really make one, but maybe not this one because i actually already changed it (i thought it looked flat and not that good), and plus i already had a specific thought with it (and the text in your wasn't exactly what i'd thought...) and you'll see i guess... but next time we can make a colab from the very start if you still want to:)

The last one is the best! :D However the size ruins it :( it'd be better if you'd have smth like 300*125 because like that the sig looks empty! Also practise colours, they're getting too monotone :( An advise do colours in last and don't use colorize or Gradient Map in full! :)

Well the text I put was what I felt when I saw the sig! And it's a ong from Muse where he says 'Lips are turning blue, a kiss I can't renew I only think of you my beautiful' and the way the music is really looks the way Sora is, flying almost in a transe! ^^"

I saw a great tutorial for text in Planetrenders for GIMP! I'll pm you it once I find it. It gives a great notion of what to do and what not :) Appart from that also don't put "Tim" in all your banners like that! Instead try to put a watermark!

Put text, select text and go to Layers and use delete layer! Then go to edit and stroke selection it with 1px in white! Then just use add bevel and it'll be a perfect watermark :) However my bevel doesn't work anymore :( check if yours is still working :)

thanks for all the advice Polaris, the color advice is something i'll definitiely think about :) and don't worry about the text and colab thing, and it's nice that you took the time to show your advice what it really could look like :)... we'll make a colab soon and we'll ROCK ;) and for now i've left out my name on the sigs i do...i got tired of having it without any reason on all sigs... and the watermarks are a bit unnecessary right now, but if i make a tut i'll def use a watermark :)

The Tidus one is nice, maybe change the colours into smth more colourful because it's getting too monotone. And bg is all the same so perhaps add ONE brush. Because you didn't put the render in the middle so the right side is empty. :) Also add text! Honestly screw what guys say at PR! They say text is not necessary but I think it is!

About the WIP... it's not ur style... And it's really hard to make sigs with no bg look good. So try to use images that have a bg like the first one! :) They're easier.

thanks for the comment guys... and Polaris acutally no it's not the light that should be vertical but rather the text that should be horizontal... it's the text that messes up the flow because everthing is like horizontal (the flow) and when i made the text vertical it became really weird... might change it sometime...
