To the mods: you can eliminate the free stuff section if you're worried about copyright. I'm posting it because it usually helps these sort of borderline "you are obsessed" threads.

Hiromichi Tanaka, a producer at Square Enix, recently stated that a new Chrono series game was not in development as several key personnel and developers would have to be reunited on a single team to create the Chrono feel. Richard Honeywood, localization expert for Chrono Cross and a longtime Square Enix employee, confirmed this in 2003 when he noted that the team was split up among various projects (most notably, Final Fantasy IX). Tanaka's interviews have generated a lot of buzz, sparking discussion concerning a new Chrono game and whether Chrono Trigger will appear on the Wii. The Japanese trademark for "Chrono Break" still exists, and Yasunori Mitsuda has stated that he'd love to score a new Chrono game. More importantly, Masato Kato, the visionary behind the franchise, is now working with Square Enix again (albeit on the World of Mana series).

Now, you've probably seen a lot of fan petitions asking for Chrono Break and that sort of thing in the past. They don't work, and they only succeed in unifying a bunch of rabid fans who curse at Square Enix and demand for a new game like indignant preteens. Disregarding that kind of stuff, we're wondering how Chrono fans can show some support for the development of a new game and enhance the popularity of the Chrono franchise on whole. We're not planning some massive petition, and we already have sample letters requesting a new game (in English and Japanese, no less). Still, it seems like perhaps we can do something else to support the development of Chrono Break.

This is where the Summit for Chrono Break comes in.

The Chrono Compendium is inviting anyone and everyone with merely an idea or two to submit them and help us consider how we can support the continuation of the Chrono series, no matter how large or small our contribution is. What do YOU suggest? ROM hacks to intensify interest in Chrono Trigger? Full fledged letter-writing campaigns? Or maybe something unorthodox? Anything goes; let anyone with a desire to see a new game put forth an idea. It's tough standing on the sidelines and hoping; maybe we can get something together, you know? Our attitude isn't "WTF SQUARE WAREZ CRONO!?!!1" or "Please revive our most beloved magnificent series forever we are OBSESSED". Rather, we're hoping we can get some good, practical ideas to seed support of the Chrono series and encouragement for a new game. So if you have an angle or two that can be worked, let it be said. It's time for the fans to become Chrono Triggers and effect a new history for everyone by showing some support!

Chrono Break Facts: The Short Version

* Chrono Break was being discussed by the Cross team and Sakaguchi in 2001, but was not greenlighted for development
* Square registered the trademarks around the same time
* Masato Kato (series leader), Sakaguchi, and other key personnel left Square shortly after
* Richard Honeywood (Cross translator) in 2003 stated that they'd like to do another Chrono but were too busy with FFXI
* US trademark expires in 2003; Japanese trademark still registered
* Masato Kato returns to Square Enix in 2005
* In 2007, Tanaka notes that the issue of making a new game is getting developers of the former games back together (whether they're in different companies now or split among Square projects such as World of Mana and FFXI)
