Is it possible to get both companys up to level 5 in the same run through the game?

Yes. You need to get one company to 800 points, so when you switch it'll be halved to 400. Then you need to get the other to 400 points before chapter 5.

Yes, but you can't do it just by PRing. If you PR everyone (and get the 5 points answer) in the first 3 chapters until you have 800 points for one company, and switch companies in Ch 3, PR everyone in Ch 3 again, and PR everyone in Ch 4 and 5, you will not have enough points for both companies. What you have to do is when you switch companies in Ch 3 and PR everyone, you have find out how many PR points are available to get in Ch 4 and 5. Then, add that to the number of points you already have and subtract from 400. Whatever that value is, you have to play games in Ch 3 for the second company so that you accumulate that many PR points so that you can have 400 after you PR everyone in Ch 4 and 5. But it is possible. It's even possible to make them tie, although the scene that happens is nothing spectacular in the slightest.

I found this out the hard way (http://forums.eyesonff.com/showthread.php?t=74972).

Thanks for that, BG-57.

BTW, the maximum of 1005 points that you calculated that you get from talking to people assumes that you switch companies in which chapter?

Anyway, to make up for your hard work: Don't worry about the Protochimarae thefts. Instead, pay off O'aka's debt and manipulate that poor sap into handing over the cash. Buy Hi-Potions and Holy Waters in lots of 99, then sell them to the Hypello in the same room. Money, money, money. You can get the 900,000 you need for the Besaid Key and any cash you need for anything else far easier than a mere 4,000 every Oversoul.

BTW, how many is the max points you can get per chapter?

You can accumulate a maximum of 1005 by just talking to people only if you don't switch companies at all. You lose half of your running total every time you switch. So the key is to get 800 points, then switch (which reduces the total for the first company to 400), then run up 400 for the other company.

What worked best for me was running up to 800 by the end of chapter two and then switching, with a combination of talking to people and losing money at the Calm Lands attractions. I left a margin of error of about 20 PR points.

Chapter 1: 270
Chapter 2: 210
Chapter 3: 235
Chapter 4: 25
Chapter 5: 265

Thanks, I'll try the Oaka trick when I play the New Game+.

Did you get to level five for them both in the end BG-57? I haven't been able to try since we talked about it in that old thread, and am curious to know what happens if there's anything unusual.

Too bad you can't switch multiple times in the same Chapter and still get credit. If you could, you could reach 400+ with both by Chapter 3, using just PR.

270 for Argent. Switch to Open. 135 for Argent.
270 for Open. Switch to Argent. 135 for Open.
270 more for Argent. 405 Argent. Switch to Open. 202 for Argent.
270 more for Open. 405 Open.
210 more for Open in Chapter 2, 235 more in Chapter 3. 850 for Open.
Switch to Argent. 425 for Open.
235 for Argent in Chapter 3. 437 for Argent.
End Result: 437 for Argent, 425 for Open.

Oh well.

Well there wouldn't be much challenge then if there was enough points from just talking to folk :p

Yeah, I did; nothing unusual happened. And I got to purchase the good stuff.

The marriage proposal outcome was pretty funny as well. :)

Switching without penalty would've been sweet. But with advance preparation, you can have your cake and eat it too. :greenie:

Is there any reason to not shift in Chapter 3? Assuming you collect everyone in Chapters 1, 2, and 3, you'll have 715. Get another 85 from games, and shift in Chapter 3. Collect everyone in Chapter 3, 4, and 5 for the next group, and you'll have 400 for the first group, and 525 for the second. Is there something I don't know about that will keep this from working?

You don't think it's possible to advertise to the same person more than once per chapter.

You're counting the totals for Chapter 3 twice. You need to get at least 195 extra PR points to get 400 PR points for both by the game's end.

Do you mean I?

I had "You can't get points from chapter 3 twice" then edited it. Guess I missed the first word.

Ah, that makes sense; I have to edit my posts a lot. :p

EDIT: Like this one. :eep:

It is possible to advertise to the same person twice in the same Chapter. As long as you are doing it for different companies. At least, that's how it worked in Chapter 1. Is Chapter 3 different?

SeeDRankLou

No, it's the same for chapters 1-3. In Chapter 4 you can't visit the Calm Lands, and in Chapter 5, if you have one of the companies up to level 5, then immediately when you go to the Calm Lands you will get the Episode Complete and not get the chance to change companies.
