Observe the following excerpt from the Criminal Code of Canada, taken from here:

35. Every one who has without justification assaulted another but did not commence the assault with intent to cause death or grievous bodily harm, or has without justification provoked an assault on himself by another, may justify the use of force subsequent to the assault if
(a) he uses the force

So basically, Jedi are allowed to commit senseless acts of violence?

That's just about the funniest thing I've seen from the Canadian government legal documents in years. Thanks. ;)

35. Every one who has without justification assaulted another but did not commence the assault with intent to cause death or grievous bodily harm, or has without justification provoked an assault on himself by another, may justify the use of force subsequent to the assault if

(a) he uses the force

(i) under reasonable apprehension of death or grievous bodily harm from the violence of the person whom he has assaulted or provoked, and

(ii) in the belief, on reasonable grounds, that it is necessary in order to preserve himself from death or grievous bodily harm;

So no, Bleys, you're wrong. Stop joking around.

The Jedi explicitly has to use the force in self-defense!

Don't go to Canada! It's a trap!

Oh, and Araciel, you're probably thinking about the fact that Jedi managed to be represented as a popular religion on a recent Australian census due to Australians having great senses of humor.

Also, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (The Mounties, as they're known in the Great White North), call themselves, "The Force".

While I'm sure I don't have to actually translate this, I will anyways.

Basically, it's saying if someone attacks you you can attack back with the same physical force. They break your arm, you can break their arm. They give you a concussion, you can give them a concussion. They kick you in the junk, you can shoot them. It's all relative.

don't all cops refer to it as being 'on the force'?

at least, they do in movies, etc.

People should be able to defend themselves however they wish in Canada. You'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

Are you perhaps Raistlin's second account, by any chance?

Boring......tch! goodbye

The use of the force in self defence is something that should not be taken lightly.

Wow. At least somebody was kind enough to take this seriously.

I remember Due South. My parents wouldn't let me watch it at the time, from what I can remember.

That's using force, not the force.
