What am I?

Shadow!

THE JACKEL

No, not Shadow...
I'll give you a hint...It has to do with something that can only be obtained in the WoR

Odin turning into Raiden?

Siegfried

Nope...

Lynx
02-20-2007, 06:03 AM
edit i changed my answer: ragnarok

Siegfried
02-20-2007, 06:05 AM
And by changing your answer, I change my response...
Yes Ragnarok is the asnswer...because you can either get the sword or the esper but if you use the esper in battle, it is a sword

Lynx
02-20-2007, 06:08 AM
i was going to sya golden hairpin because you ahve the choice to get it or save mog but anyways i cant think of any riddle right now seeing as its 1am and im tired so someone else can have my turn.

ljkkjlcm9
02-20-2007, 06:10 AM
shadow was a much better answer, because you have a choice to wait for him on the floating continent. If you don't, he dies, and if you do, he dies in the ending.

The ragnarok Esper and Sword are far from the same thing, even if the esper summons a sword.

THE JACKEL

ReloadPsi

Plus there's Gogo, who can only be obtained in WoR, and is basically just everyone else rolled into one.

The ragnarok Esper and Sword are far from the same thing, even if the esper summons a sword.

THE JACKAL

but the riddle says "but either way i turn out the same thing" if you dont choose to wait for shadow he doesnt turn out the same thing because he's dead.

ragnarok the choice is esper or sword either way its still ragnarok.

yes he does. You wait for him, he'll die, albeit much later, but he still ends up dead.

The Ragnarok esper is far from the same thing as the Ragnarok sword. Just because one thing shares the name with another thing doesn't mean they're the same :(. I still say Odin->Raiden.

ok fine no ones going im not great at createing riddles but here goes nothing.

i wont make you sick
but ill make you cold

the apocalypse gives you the chance to find me
you may not think im useful so sentence me to death.

:rolleyes2 i tried to create a riddle play on words arent my thing hopefully its not too easy.

Siegfried
02-21-2007, 05:08 AM
See riddles aren't supposed to be obvious or they would be no fun...
Thats why ragnarok is the best answer because you have to think out of the box...
Hey I can get the sword!
And if I use the esper, its a huge sword...what a difference!

Edit: Oh, and if you can only obtain it in WoR...then it can't be Shadow since you can hire him...Odin is not the same as Raiden, they have different everything...and Gogo, where's the choice mentioned in the riddle...not picking him up?

Double Edit: Answer... Mog?

Mirage
02-21-2007, 05:22 AM
Not really, their attacks look and do about the exact same.

Lynx
02-21-2007, 09:21 AM

just a little hint or possibly widening the scales jsut because the riddle says "I" does not mean its alive aka its not alive :D

02-22-2007, 03:33 AM
Relic Ring?

Lynx
02-22-2007, 04:39 AM
nailed it siegfried your turn.

my explanation.

i wont make you sick
but ill make you cold the description of the relic ring is makes hte body cold

the apocalypse gives you the chance to find meragnarok in mythology is the destrucion of all gods the world and everything. apocalypse is the destruction of the world basically the same thing. also useing ragnaroks metamorph you can morph a veteran into the ring
you may not think im useful so sentence me to death.
when first useing the relic ring its like whats so great about being a zombie but then when enemys cast doom or death on you it cures you

Siegfried
02-22-2007, 05:18 AM
ok...

Fight me and you'll think I'm pretty tough...
But then why do I always seem to run away?

I'm not a ghost, nor a turtle...
But in the end I sure won't gipp you!

"Crown of Kings" is a historical/mytholigical allustion

Darthwedge
03-18-2007, 09:12 PM
That is no hint

abrojtm
03-18-2007, 10:03 PM
That is a hint. I refuse to give you the answer just because you can't figure out the riddle. The riddle is not that hard.

The answer is a piece of equipment.

Lynx
03-19-2007, 03:51 AM
umm im not sure how this can relate to the 2nd part of the riddle

is it Tiara.

its not a crwon for kings but its a crown for queens and used throughout history.

oh well i just guessed. im probobly wrong anyway...............

abrojtm
03-21-2007, 05:47 AM
Nope.
There is a particular reason that this piece of equipment is "hard to hold."

,,,
03-21-2007, 08:53 AM
I don't think there's any piece of equipment that comes as a helmet, shield, and ring. I don't know what that part of the clue meant otherwise, but it must not be that so I'll ignore that part of the clue.

I'll guess thornlet, "crown of kings" being a reference to Jesus and the crown of thorns. If that's it, you'll have to explain to us the part about "shields and rings."

Also, if I'm right someone can take mine because I don't have the energy to think of something obscure in the game and make up a rhyme about it.

Bunny
03-21-2007, 03:09 PM
I'll guess thornlet, "crown of kings" being a reference to Jesus and the crown of thorns. If that's it, you'll have to explain to us the part about "shields and rings."

If you're right: Cursed Ring, Cursed Shield. All have negative effects as they are all cursed items.

I can't really think of anything else. So sure. Thornlet :P

abrojtm
03-21-2007, 04:58 PM

I've figured it out. It's magicite, I think

A sacred life, a second chance: the second chance for an esper to help by giving you their power.
one last scar to bleed legacy: the last remains of an esper
willed or taken is not to decide: some magicite the espers willingly give, but kefka takes a lot by force as well.
loyalty rewarded, willed confide: some espers turn themselves to magicite to help
an attempt to reverse this tragedy: stop the empire, then Kefka
A Woman's struggle, back to balance: Terra and Celes are struggling to restore the balance of the world.

bipper

That is absolutely correct. The last line is more

A Woman's struggle, back to balance: The goddesses that made the espers struggled, this is the trageity I spoke of. They created a trinity of balance, and their disrupted balance brought destruction to us all.

Relax, kiddo. I don't think anyone was out with torches and pitchforks, ready to skin you alive for that. Just a bunch of people confused. :)

PS: Obtainable is a word.

My vocabulary has just been expanded. Unfortunately, since it's a little over 5 AM here, I'll most likely forget that after some sleep.

How do you skin a person alive with a torch or a pitchfork? Yee.

Also, "obtainable" is still a word. Never forget. Try using it in a sentence!

My riddle:

A brighter shade of blue,
Or maybe I'm red hot;
Depends on where you stand:
in East or Western land.
Either way, this much is true:
A coward's what I'm not.

I wanted to incorporate "obtainable" into the riddle, but oh well. Next time.

You don't. The pitchfork is to impale them on the ground so they can't move, and the torches are for the barbecus after the person has been skinned alive. :shifty:

As for the riddle, could East and West refer to Doma and Figaro respectively?

musenji

Oh, duh, I just figured it out. I was a bit warm though while I was thinking of Doma. It's Cyan/Cayenne.

A brighter shade of blue, Cyan is a shade of bright blue.
Or maybe I'm red hot; Cayenne is a red pepper.
Depends on where you stand:
in East or Western land. He's called Cayenne in Japan and Cyan in America.
Either way, this much is true:
A coward's what I'm not. Nope, he just speaks with an old English accent (in the NA release, at least), and got such a big grudge against the Empire that his ghost would haunt them if Kefka didn't kill the Emperor, destroyed Vector and most of the world, and then got defeated by the party.

The Emperor's banquet? I don't see how the last two lines fit though, unless it refers to when you get Setzer in your party soon after..

Correct!

Take your fill and speak your will, - clearly stating the banquet. Eat what you can, and speak your opinions to the questions of the Emperor.

I will judge and reward you still. - He will make his decisions on what to do, and you can piss him off. either way, you will get rewarded some how.

Perhapses in vane, it's still the same. - No matter what you do, he schemes against you

Though you still have a little to gain. - you don't get :skull::skull::skull::skull: that is worth much.

An advent of fate, a cut deck of cards - this line states it is an event that is fated (no getting around it) the the cut deck of cards refers to Ghestal basically rigging the meeting, the conversation, everything.

the ace of spades, when the dealer plays. - though you play your cards well, you will never win - as the dealer always has the proverbial ace of spades.

Quarter of a dozen --> there are three of them.

chaos contained --> The balance of the three of them is what keeps things contained, "balanced" as in the World of Balance.
within in the wall --> not a hundred percent sure what this line means.

Ultima Weapon?

Sorry about double post, thought they just have two different topics...

I was thinking of "Atma" because I wasn't sure if we were favoring FFIII US or FFVIA translation, but yes, I'll give that to you.

I'm one of a kind, (obvious)
You'll not see my better, (it has the highest possible attack rating in the game, 255)
I'm first of my class, (leads into the next line)
Right down to the letter. (refers to the "A" in Atma, and the fact that it's the most powerful weapon in the swords class)

There are others who'll come,
With fancier moves, (Atma Weapon has the highest attack rating, but so do the swords Ragnorak and Illumina, and they offer other bonuses as well)
But if you stick with me,
Then I'll only improve. (What makes the Atma weapon valuable is that it's strength increases based on your level, if you keep using it, it can only get better.)

Very often someone will make connections and come up with a guess that is close to the answer, and someone else will use those connections and that guess to discover the exact answer. It really can't be avoided; it's a part of the game.

Sometime, bipper, I'm sure you'll use someone else's connections to get the exact answer. It'll even out. (Take this from someone who has been on both sides of the "steal" and made a fool of himself when the answer was "stolen" from him.)

Only stage again is changed,
Belief defines her faith anew,

Alright guys, this looks like one we're gonna have to hack away at. Just making one guess at the whole thing probably won't do it. Have to take it one stanza at a time.

I think the first stanza relates to rescuing the child from the burning house in Tzen.

Effervescent hope is found,
In malefic raining light, (Kefka's light of judgement)
Six minutes for the saviour, (six minutes for Celes to save the kid)
Tiger, tiger burning bright.

Sabin is the first person I think of when I hear "tiger"...and he was holding the house up while Celes rescued the kid. But he never burned. So dunno. The only other reference to tigers is the tiger mask, I believe.

I'm guessing "hope" refers to the hope that your allies are all alive, as Sabin is the first you discover, and Celes suddenly realizes others may be alive.

Eagleheart
07-13-2007, 11:56 PM
I will say, with regards to my riddle, that musenji has the right way of going about it, each stanza is to be tackled separately. And, because I know it isn't terribly clear, what you're looking for is alluded to in the last stanza.

Also, I hope no one is put off by this riddle, given how long and weird it is. It's an intricate sort of style, and admittedly not one I've written a lot in, but it can make for a really neat riddle if done well.

Found in halls of ancient stone, (Doma?)

#1: Sabin.

Effervescent hope is found, (the hope that your allies are all alive)
In malefic raining light, (Kefka's light of judgement)
Six minutes for the saviour, (six minutes for Celes to save the kid)
Tiger, tiger burning bright. (holding up the house, "feeling the burn" :D)

#2: Terra.

Aether gilded, heaven blessed, (blessed with heavenly power)
Resigned to the mundane, (stuck on earth)
Till the nature of desire, (love, desire to save world/children/help allies)
Breaks the hold of terra's chains. (her being stuck at mobliz [terra means earth!])

#3: Edgar.

Heartbeat of the lions twain, (Sabin and Edgar BUT YOU SAID SABIN WAS A TIGER LIAR LIAR)
Evading what is true, (his real name. "I'm Gerad!")
Heedless on despite repute, (you might think he's a petty thief)
Enchained to give what's due. (arrangement with other thieves?)

#4: Celes.

New center for the stage is found, (Celes is now the protagonist)
Only stage again is changed, (World of Ruin = different landscape)
Belief defines her faith anew, (??)
Let death the path arrange. (Cid can die helping you)

#5: Cyan.

Found in halls of ancient stone, (zozo mountains)
Making beauty, hands of war. (a warrior writing love letters)
And a fitting line of tribute,
Names the way of those called forth.

If you rearrange the stanzas in chronological order of when you can acquire these characters in the World of Ruin, the left side spells out "Noble is the heart bf man". (I think you changed the "o" line but forgot to keep it starting with O.)

Now, I'm not quite sure what to do from here. I think it was pretty open as to what to do next after finding these five characters.

...Okay, I did a little work and found out that Cyan recited those words. Okay, and then he said he bumped into Gau. So the next place you go, or at least the answer to this riddle, is:

THE VELDT

Eagleheart
07-16-2007, 12:48 AM
Very, very good! You're right about me changing the line (d'oh!), but you got it anyway. Very good. Now, just to tie up some loose ends and clarify some things:

For stanza 2 I was actually thinking of Setzer (the stanza as a whole is sort of referring to how he used to fly but now is stuck on land), because you need him to get to Cyan, but you got the order right anyway.

"Heartbeat of the lions twain,"
I was referring to the association of lion=king, and also the fact that both Sabin and Edgar are Leos.
"Enchained to give what's due."
I was actually thinking that it's his duty as a king to save his people.

Belief defines her faith anew, (??)
After Celes attempts suicide following Cid's death, she finds a bird with Locke's bandana and she starts to think her friends might be alive.

musenji
07-17-2007, 09:40 PM
Nope, see last hint.

[edit] Okay, I don't feel like dragging this one out. The riddle refers to the stormy skies on the title screen (promising rain), and the fact that you don't see actual rain until much later, in Zozo. Maybe a stretch--I should've added more lines.

...And my sister just came up with an even better answer: Arvis's promise that Terra's memory will return, which happens in Zozo. So, folks, this is an example of a BAD riddle, due to the whole "multiple answers being better than the one I had in mind" deal. :)
