Tony Hawk's Project 8 didn't go online on PlayStation 3 because Sony didn't have their online infrastructure ready yet -- even though Resistance: Fall of Man made it online. But, the same complications may prevent Square Enix's next MMO from arriving on the platform, despite Final Fantasy XI being a popular presence on PlayStation 2, reports Pro-G.

While speaking to Final Fantasy III remake executive producer Hiromichi Tanaka:

"I'm still working on XI as it's on-going but we are also working on a next-generation MMORPG for 360 and Vista but PS3 is a possibility."

Unless getting online via PS3 is a roadblock, why wouldn't this not-yet-announced game be on Sony's platform? Hmm.

I say that sucks really. Whats so hard about getting online with the PS3? Same with the PS2 really, I've gotten my Tony Hawk 4 online with my PS3, etc. So whats so difficult? IT BETTER NOT SKIP THE PS3!

Square Enix have recently announced they plan to create an entirely new MMORPG for the next generation consoles, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 (Likely Pc ports will be available at some stage). One thing to note however, is this has been confirmed as a “Final Fantasy” title, and will not be set in Vana’Diel, but infact a world we have already seen in earlier Final Fantasy titles, this likely means Ivalice, as seen in Final Fantasy XII. But we have no official statement on this to truely state this as of the current date. Stay tuned fo rmore info as we get it in.

Though it's not set in stone, I'd assume it would just go to Xbox360, PS3 and Vista (and most likely XP). My only concern then, is how limited the game will be in a few years after its release.

Because, if you look at FFXI, it's extremely limited on the PC due to it being a PS2 game. The GUI is ugly and very bad to navigate around, the textures aren't the best (the only thing keeping the graphics really good, is art direction). So yeah, just things like that...

I'm having a tought time getting my wireless PS3 to connect to the net. It sees my router and Sony's Playstation site just fine but not anything else. And it disconects every 10 minutes :(

It won't bother me at all. The fewer exclusive PS3 games, the more money I save when I don't have to buy one. I think S-E is just playing it safe, because they can see that the PS3 is struggling, and might not end up with an as solid user base as they hoped for. This would lead to poorer sales for S-E, and it is therefore a good marketing strategy to have games for several platforms, in case one should die. Developing for multiple platforms is becoming increasingly more expensive, because of how consoles are getting more and more different from each others.
