Why do you (preferably humorously) reckon that the characters in the
FF games have such big sized weapons ?

Because they're overcompensating for something else.

Cloud is really the only one who has a ridiculously big sword, and I'll never figure out how he lifts it with those scrawny arms of his.

^ another overcompensator :p It wasn't a difficult question to answer to begin with, but the answer became especially clear when I tuned into Adult Swim while Inuyasha was holding his oversized sword between his legs, and it suddenly shrunk on him

It make them look stronger. If I saw someone that are able to use/carry a LARGE, HEAVY AND DEADLY weapon like a paper when anyone else can't, I'll ran away like hell.

The size of the monsters that they fight requires it.

Think about it, man. Even if you had the best sword ever, it would be wasted on a monster in comparison to which it is the size of a toothpick.
Unfortunately, that means that the FF Warriors have to learn how to use unusually large weapons as opposed to those that would be effective on humans/medium sized creatures alone.

Good job trying to mask your inability/unwillingness to think by trying to bring down the thread.

It's people like you who are destroying this world, lazy ass. And you wonder why you can't get a freaking job. Why you have to resort to theft to support your baby's mama.

Why don't you do some work instead of just complaining all the time?

That's right. I don't recall anyone else have big stupid weapons. But we all should know that size is not an issue when is comes to beating the hell out of Monsters and Bosses in the world of FF.

I believe this to be the correct answer. It's an anime thing. Power is seen to be more awsome when the character in question looks weak. It's why there is a theme of Uber little girls in anime and video games. ;)

Also... Auron has an oversized sword as well. He uses it one handed so I feel it counts in this discussion.

That's flimsy. You could also say that the huge weapons are much too bulky for fighting enemies like lizards and such. It's like killing a fly with an A-Bomb. Plus, magic can be as effective (if not more so) on the big enemies as swords and such.

The size and look of the weapons has solely to do with character design. Hell, after a trek around the sphere grid, Lulu's little dolls can do 99,999 to a Behemoth or any other normal monster...

It's roaches that survive the A-Bomb, fool!

I never said anything about what survives the A-Bomb.....fool. And besides, roaches may survive the radioactive wasteland left by the bomb, but they won't survive ground zero.
Your position may stand, but your argument has flatlined, and the doctors have pronounced the time of death.

Cloud has a big sword.

Squall doesn't.

Zidane doesn't.

Tidus doesn't.

The rest all have normal sized swords. Cloud's is big because it is a BUSTER BLADE.

Big weapons? Cloud has a big sword but thats it... Ok you can also wonder how Zidane swings the double blades around every time he attacks when they are the same size as him :p but hey, its humanly possible... Just takes skill... So it must be nothing for a world saving hero:cool:

Some of Squall's gunblades were absolutely massive. Same for some of Zidanes double ended bladed thingies relative to his size. Some of the swords in FFVI (especially Atma Weapon) were longer than the actual sprites of the characters. Plenty of characters have had massive weapons. They're much better for hitting the weakpoint for massive damage obviously.

Yeah of course, Cloud is the ONLY character with a big weapon. :rolleyes2
Actually, you'd be able to find loads of characters with massive weapons since FF7, and at LEAST one in the FFs before then.

Squall definitely has some big swords.
Zidane definitely has some big swords.
Tidus definitely has some big swords.

FFX-2 Dark Knight: Longer than their bodies
FFVIII Squall: Wider that his head
FF7 Sephirtoh: No comment necessary
FF7 Yuffie: "Ouch, my foot."
FFVIII Ward: "Lets ram the castle gates!"

No weapon specialist could be able to wield those even remotely as good as the FF character wield them, and wouldnt be able to even LIFT some of them.

As for WHY they have them........ They look cool!

Actually Yuffie's Shurikun isn't too oversized, although Squall's gunblade is ridiculous.

You're forgetting time period, in order to make a detailed weapon in FFVI they had to buff up the size of the image.

Why?
Simple, people dig huge weapons. They found that out when Sephiroth and Cloud got all of their fans and now their milking it for all its got.

No, they are many large Shuriken that are use as weapons in Japanese fiction. There are called Fuuma (or windmill) Shuriken

Exactly, fiction. They are oversized. If Yuffie's shuriken is not oversized because it has appeared in anime before, then no FF characters weapon is too big. I have seen bigger swords in fiction that is NOT final fantasy.
Its like saying Darth Vaders helmet isnt oversized because Darth Helmets helmet was even bigger.
If you mean 'oversized' in terms of to the point where it looks ridiculous even in terms of anime/games, then thats a different matter :).

...Darth Helmet was a joke though xp

No I'm saying that Fuuma Shuriken isn't just restricted to FF, and Yuffie's is just right considering.....

The Fuuma Shuriken is best fitted for use when each blade is then length of one arm, preferably just shorter otherwise cutting off your arm while throwing it would be almost certain.

Little Red Riding Hood Demon: "Oh hero, what big weapons you have!"

Hero: "All the better to slay you with my dear."

Little Red: "But why would you want to do such a thing!"

Hero: "Because you carry Gil in your pockets and help me buy even bigger weapons."

Little Red: "That's very reasonable. Let's fight each other to the death."

Hero: "Yes, quite."

I dont think you read my post properly... Of course its not restricted to FF, but its still oversized because these size Shuriken dont exist. Im not claiming that they look out of place for a video game or anime or whatever, im claiming that they look totally out of place for a real life weapon, which you dont need me to tell you im sure.......I hope!

No, actually, I'm not forgetting the time period. Most of the other swords actually look somewhat close to proportional in that game. Then along comes something like the Atma Weapon which is twice as long as any normal sword. Let's also not forget the thing Cyan pulls out of his pants when he does dispatch and some other swordtechs. Obviously I'm talking about a really long sword, get your minds out of the gutter.
