Activation, perhaps? If your friend is "lending" you the disk...

With the fact considered that Microsoft is a big office full of dumbasses, no.

If you know a good cracker/hacker, yes.

If you haven't purchased a product key, you won't be able to activate it. That means, after 30 days, it'll go into "reduced functionality mode": the Aero display environment will stop working and you'll only be able to use a single IE window to purchase a product key from Microsoft.
At this stage, if you know how, you can use IE to open up explorer.exe and use your computer normally (for the most part), but many other features built into Windows won't work. This method is also tedious, because it logs you out without warning after a period of time.

So if the copy of Vista is pirated, you can pretty much forget getting it activated; you'll just have to reinstall every 30 days (depending on whether or not that release includes the Frankenbuild update).

My advice is to install Linux. :p

It was 30 from at least beta 5744. That's the one I started using. :p

No, it can't be used more than once. You won't get a serial for free unless you buy one. Or win one.

You should worry about being able to use your computer normally :p.

Just stick with XP for a little while longer.

Or your university or place of education gives you one for free :p

You should worry about your soul shrivelling up into a dry, prune-like husk.

I haven't figured out what is so good about vista except the purdy pictures.

I'm personally waiting for XP to come down in price so I can actually purchase a license that's affordable :)

Is DirectX10 only available on Vista?

Which of course means that there won't really be any point in getting a GeForce8 if you use Windows and don't have a special need for OpenGL, since they use a legacy DirectX9.0c emulation chip. :p

You could always buy a Vista Upgrade package for less, upgrade your current installation and then not input your product key. Then all you have to do is reinstall once more and it will let you format your drive with a clean install of Windows. You won't have to worry about buying full versions this way.

You could always get an OEM copy with some hardware from an online retailer which acts as a full install and costs less than half the cost of retail and is fully legal. :)
