View Full Version : When breeding, what monsters make other similar monsters?

Can someone either copy/paste or point me to a FAQ of what monsters make other monsters? I hung onto Boco, and now have black and red Chocobos. I was aiming to get an early Barrette out of the red one. I also have about three Uribos, and I thought that they would end up making a different beastie, too.
Thanks! :)

As you can see, you should be breeding and poaching from the Chocobo, Flotiball, Bull Demon, Morbol, Woodman, Dragon, Behemoth, and Uribo classes.
BTW, Nelveska Temple is the first chance to recruit Hyrudras, but not the last. Random battles in END in Deep Dungeon also provide oppurtunities.
You can meet the Uribo class as early as Zigolis Swamp, but for a long time I got them at Finath River.

Yeah, I've referenced your list before. So, essentially, the monsters on the list breed in sections of three, with Uribos making Porkys and Wildbows?

Exactly. Although the odds of a lower tier monster producing higher tier offspring is low.
So your Chocobos will only rarely have Black Chocobo offspring and Red Chocobo offspring even more rarely.
I also strongly suggest breeding only one type of monster at a time.

Any reason why? Aside from space constraints?
I figure I'd go ahead and try my hand at a few now since I have the "inventory" space (No Beowulf, no Reis, no Worker 8, no Rafa and Malak, no Cloud).

Just that all monsters in your party (other than dragon Reis and Byblos) will breed to fill the empty slots. So if you're trying to get Porkys you may get a bunch of Black Chocobos instead.
I found that I had to dismiss a bunch of human generics to make room for monster breeding. You only need a few of them for propositions anyway.

The Red Chocobos and Porkys are working out okay together. Mind you, I have to remove a little more often for beasties that I don't want, but it's working out well.
I already have a Barette, a Cachusha, a Nagrarock, and a couple of Chantages. It's convenient enough breeding these two since I'm hanging out near Mandalia raising Mustadio and Agrias in jobs right now.
Incidentally, the Nagrarock is nothing like I thought it would be. Some people suggested to go Ninja or Two Swords and equip two. It'll turn whatever into a frog, and then back to normal. The Nagrarock works on the same randomness as any weapon with an "Add," and isn't guaranteed to work every hit. It does make leveling a little easier, though, when you can turn the pests into harmless frogs to beat on and steal from.
Off topic, but does anyone know the formula for the frequency of success on a "Add" effect on a weapon? Is it in anyway tied to character stats (Brave and Faith)?

According the Aerostar's Battle Mechnics Guide on gamefaqs, it's a base chance of 25% of weapons on adding a status.

25%. Wow.
BG...is there anything about this game that you don't know? :D

What I don't know I know where to look up.
But I am quite honored to be considered an authority on Tactics. :D

Hehe Yah BG knows a great deal.
I've learned a lot from him and a few others on this board.
I hear they are Gonna remake FF Tactics for PSP and add a few new Job Classes and maybey some new areas and story.
And of course some Cut-Scenes.
I Can't wait, I'll have to steal my Buddies PSP and/or Get a PSP Emulator for my PC, cuz i dotn wanna buy a PSP just for FFT however i surely do not want to miss out on the new Job Classes and Story they add.

if they could somehow make a balanced multiplayer version of this game, that would be fun.

Anyone know how the game picks whether or not you get the common or the rare off of a poach? I read an FAQ where it said to make your poach, and then save. That way, you can visit the town with the Fur Shop and if you don't get the item you want, you can reset and try again. Something like 9 commons for every 1 rare.
I've reset a dozen times now, and I haven't tripped on the rare I want for my Uribo. Are the rare/common items tied to anything like the date, per chance? Or, is the FAQ I read wrong, and the rare/common decided when the beast is poached?

In my experience the item is determined at the moment of poaching. So it'll always be the common item for that particular poach. You should save instead before you engage in a poaching battle and only if you get the rare item save again.

Thanks. That's what I was afraid of. :( There's more breeding to be done, then.

I have no actual Numbers or extensive tests but in my experiance once you get a rare item once and leave it in the fur shop, it seemed to poach more of that rare item than if you had bought it from the fur shop right away.
This could just be superstitious coincidence, but i always do it liek that now because it worked for me in the past.
