Would you rather have someone compliment you when you're with others or when you're alone?

Araciel

How can you be complimented when you're alone? Unless you're complimenting yourself?

Agrias

alone, because i tend to get flustered in a big group or with others. I also tend to blush, which pisses me off cause then i try to make it go away and it just gets worse, lol. A few times i've been complimented in public and then they're all like...looking at me....waiting for a response....O_O
it gets embarrassing and uncomfortable....-nods-

I hate it when people compliment me in public, it makes me feel all sick and unsure inside. not sure why though.

What I meant was you're being complimented by someone else when it's only the two of you around.

I'd rather not be complimented at all because I blush and get flustered easily. I guess I'd prefer to be alone then.

I like my gigantic ego to be inflated even more n front of as many witnesses as possible.

Definitely in a group of people. If you start to flounder and fluster about due to the nature of the compliment, there are people around to provide distraction for both you and the complimenter. If you're complimented in private, there's no one to distract the complimenter from you going crazy embarrassed.

I have an ego but its subtle and I'd rather have a meaningful complement from a dear friend then a worthless one just to make me look good. So it has to be personal

Doesn't matter. All I do is say "thanks," and move on.

If it's a compliment worth receiving, I would much rather receive it in private.

I think I prefer it in private.

The thing with public compliments is that a lot of times, when you're being complimented, other people... are not. =/ And that makes me uncomfortable if you're in a group and you're singled out for something when others are not.

I prefer it privately because it feels more personal and real.

I think compliments are highly personal comments that work best with good friends who are alone. I don't think compliments are quite as sincere and personal when they're said in front of a big group of people.

When I do something worthy of compliment, I want the entire world to know.

You really ought to have added in a "Have it broadcasted over the airwaves" option.

I also enjoy complementing others in front of large groups.

As awkward as it is fopr the receiver, it's always better, because when everybody knows, then it becomes more real and more believable. Plus, it puts me/whoever into a tough spot where certain standards must be met to maintain the reputation. That builds character, and keeps you from slacking off or going broke or whatever.

I have extremely low self-esteem, so I can't take a compliment period.

Private is better at least only that person would see how crap I look at such moments. xD

It depends on the compliment, but usually alone I guess.

I second that. I got complimented on my chest with lots of people in the same room. It was embarrasing.

If it's a serious comment, then alone. If it's something lighthearted, then with other people, because I can come up with a snappy comment that boosts my ego even further.

It depends... if it's a customer telling me i did a good job or great service (i'm a waitress) then i'd prefer it in front of my wench of a manager, but anything else in private cause i don't handle compliments well and usually blush and don't know what to say back, but i'm getting better at it though. I very much enjoy the stupid grin a compliment will put on my face.

In private, so I can make out with them later. Okay no not really, well...maybe.

when am alone cos then no one looks at me...no matter how much i do like attention...complimented in front of people is bound to leave me red...and besides, its not as though anyone would want to compliment me in front of people

I thought I had posted in the thread not just voted on the poll doh thats what I get for being sleepy and distracted.

I prefer my compliments in private. At work I sometimes get called stuff like "charming young man" and the like by old women and I just smile and say "well some of us have got it all ;)" however sometimes I get stuff like and this is a quote from a woman I served "Wow, you don't like foot ball and yet don't mind doing sport and you keep fit. Gods gift to women is what you are...the perfect guy" I got highly embarassed by this comment but after a small "wth just roll with it" thought I simply came right back out with a witty comment. She wasn't being sarcastic either which made that worse!!

Personal compliments outside of work are best kept private because when a girl talks to me and says stuff like "you sound like hugh grant but better" I end up blushing like mad and not quite knowing what to say.

Hhhmmm I've got many compliments over the years (mainly for my ayes) and it always happens in front of others so I guess I have no problem at all.
My problem is that I don't know the right way to do a proper compliment and I'm a little shy too (really bad compination I tell ya) :D

You should have a better opinion about yourself you always must be confident it's a nice feeling.
You know, if you don't like yourself then no one else will like you, think about it.

Alone would be nicer, as its more intimate and stuff, but for me thats worse xD I blush extremely easily, so probably in public so I don't feel under pressure to compliment the person back or whatever. I dunno :/

I don't really have a preference, most of the time compliments don't mean a lot to me x3 But a few times they do, coming from certain people.

The only time I don't get slightly embarrassed by compliments is when it's by my boyfriend, or people close to me. I just smile and say "Thanks" or say something nice back, so it doesn't really matter if it's infront of anybody or not. :jess:
