Well, what do you have for a computer?
I just finished building my new desktop (just need a video card and a new monitor would be nice :p )
Microsoft XP 64 bit Edition
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.2 GHz
2 GB CORSAIR DDR RAM
Biostar NF61S Micro 754 with
onboard Nvidia 6100 video
Realtek onboard sound
550 wat power source
currently a 80 GB HD;180 GB SATA also have a 250 GB external.
it's purty. Will be neatened up this comming weekend. This was a quick fix for my failing laptop.

At the microcenter near in boston...they have a BYOC(build your own computer section) and I'm gonna build my own very soon but...

for now I have a sony vaoi desktop PCV-RX770 w/pretty much defaults
windows xp home sp2
intel pentuim 4 2.0ghz w/ p-1???? socket so I have to replace it cuz this type of socket is relly outdated...need a 775

AGP GeForce 5200 FX
512mb RAM...
default motherboard

wen I build one Im thinking of... a desktop ..along the lines of

Windows xp corporate edition...dam wpa
a good motherboard...maybe a Fatal1ty 1..that guys kool
3gigs ram
newsest graphic card I can find...theyll prolly make a new GeForce by the time Im redy to buy new cpu
3ghz processor...intel pentuim course...any other is obselete...stupid athlon

ADDED: WOAH!!! 64Ghz...super computer alert super computer alert...Is that even possible for a personaly computer...I know processors are tiny but 64GHZ?...my mistake 2.2...dam u win mines says 2.18 wen I check it...blast u and ur .02 more...but-u- wait! ..urs is an amd athlon so its less than it actually claims cuz Athlons suck...mwuahahhaha I win

I fixed that ;) It's 64 bit :p
and how are Athlon not good? My CPU runs at 29 C where as my wonderful Pentium 4 ran at a teaming 70 C. It also over heated all the time. Intel also just beefs up old tech where as AMD uses new cooler running tech. AMD > Intel.

Intel's chips are better - at the moment

My computer just has a :skull::skull::skull::skull:-ton of HDD space (750Gigs) and a 750W power source since my friend accidentally ordered two.

Everything else is rather standard:

1Gig DDR RAM
256 ATIblah video card

My comp is a few years old. Just bought a new Antec Solo case for the old girl though. Currently, my hardware specs are:

CPU: AMD Athlon XP-M 2600@2.4 GHz
Motherboard: Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe w/Trats BIOS 1013
RAM: 2x512 MB Crucial PC4000 Ballistix Tracer
Video: ATI Radeon X700 Pro
Sound: Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2
Hard Drive: Combined total of 360 GB

It's not the fastest set up out there, but it still keeps up fairly well with the low end crowd. :D

Well mine:

Hard Drive: 80GB
CPU: Intel Pentium4 at 2.67Ghz
RAM: 1.5GB
Graphics Card: GeForce 7600GT 256MB

It's not the best but it's good enough to play Gothic3 at it's maximum so I'm quite delighted :D

Hehehe, br proud that you don't have what I have:

Windows ME (I lost, already...)
Pentium II 533MHz
191MB of RAM. (Budget ram doesn't come in multiples of 8, apparently?:eep: )
17" Samsung monitor with a slice running through the middle of the glass.
40gB hard-drive.
Yamaha POS speakers
A sound-card from 1997.
European keyboard that sounds like a typewriter....and looks like it was found in a Toronto back-alley.

Actually, the only thing I like about the computer is the printer. An Epson Stylus C88, which is totally 1337.

There you have it folks, the epitome of tech. :rolleyes2

I think you should make your own desktop instead...its cheaper for the same specs and performance...Also I my friend has a customizable laptop so It's now possible to make your own laptop I'm assuming since Iv'e seen so many customizable laptops...the bad thing is it has like a 2inch box under it where all the customization goes own so it weighs more and can break easily if dropped

Actually their clock speed is faster, the chips themselves are still lagging behind AMD in overall speed as Intel chips bottleneck so you don't even use most of the 3+ GHz they have.

a 750W power source since my friend accidentally ordered two.

You know a 750W Power Supply is pritty much redundant in almost all but the most over powered or hard drive filled machines so it's needless costing you and the environment when a 500W would probably suffice you. Larger numbers don't always mean better.

Actually their clock speed is faster, the chips themselves are still lagging behind AMD in overall speed as Intel chips bottleneck so you don't even use most of the 3+ GHz they have.

You must still be stuck in the NetBurst days of the P4. Core (2) Duo (Yonah/Merom/Woodcrest/Conroe) chips stress processes per clock cycles and power consumption over raw clock speeds. In the mid to high-end processor market Intel has overtaken AMD with custom builders. It's just a better buy all around.

750W is the theoretical limit. Devices plugged into the PSU only use as much power as they need. Having a PSU with greater wattage is just a safety net when devices start to use more power in the future.

AMD's are better processors anyway because a 2.2Ghz Athlon 64 runs at the same speed as a 3.7Ghz Pentium 4, hence the term "Intellahertz" (and also what that number on AMD boxes means E.G. 3700+ = 3.7Ghz "Intellahertz") as for the high end dual cores i have no idea as ive heard Intel has done some major restructuring to the Core2Duo's. As for how cool they run though AMD still aces it, even in the dual cores! ;)

Yamaneko
03-14-2007, 12:04 AM
No one buys P4s anymore, though. The comparison is made between the two manufactures current line of processors (Core 2 Duo vs. AM2/Turion) and as such, according the the benchmarks Intel is ahead in the non-budget line of CPUs.

I think if the E4300 from Intel drops about $40, I would be tempted to switch to an Intel system. At this moment though, AMD's pricing is extremely competitive. Performance may not be up to par with the Intel currently, but a system built with an AMD processor is definitely more affordable all around. Considering a X2 3600 only costs $95 and I can overclock it to perform like an E6300, I can feel pretty confident that I got a good deal considering the E6300 is $190 average. Not to mention I've found that AM2 motherboards seem much more affordable than 775 boards on average. And with those savings I can at least get a halfway decent video card so my performance isn't bottlenecked during gaming sessions.

It's most likely because 1 KB = 1024 B, 1 MB = 1024 KB, and so forth. A lot of bytes are "lost" when doing those conversions, and the huger the disks, the larger amounts of space seem to disappear. In reality though, they don't disappear. If you check the properties of a 700 MB file, you'll find that it is actually 715000 KB or something like that.
