Who find's summons all but useless

There isn’t a single person here who could say they used summons in the game. Fighting those bastards always had a trick to it and they always started or finished with a wipe out move (party killing). Like Ultima's holyja which worked until I finally ripped the skirt off that whore.

The problem is while they pawned you pretty good they can't even take on a pack of wolves without being killed before they can even make an action. Where the hell is Bahamut when you need him!

So many times I've summoned one, then I head away from the danger to try to cure myself somewhat, and the stupid AI of the esper means he follows me...I'm thinking "Nooo! Attack the Boss! Dont bring it near me >_<"

Anyway, further on into the game they literally take one hit to die, they are a waste of MP in my opinion, just like Quickenings are (unless you know for a fact your quickening is going to finish the Boss off).

You collect them for fun only I guess ;)

I've got Belias and Mateus and I've only summoned Belias once, no one on my team has learned Mateus though and I really can't be bothered to either.

The best way to take care of your espers in combat is to cast Bubble, Protect, and Shell upon them and use your summoner as its healer. Some people recommend fighting in tandem, but usually when you bring out a summon, it is because you are fighting something big, not a few Steelings, so being a healer is not so bad when your esper is dealing out damage and hopefully working towards their ultimate attack.

I use espers sparingly because, yes, they are still pretty much useless.

I used Belias in Ozmone plains to get past the big ol' upright wolf groups of three.

I may use ultima because she likes to obliterate things in her path 8)

I really like Espers (I only have Belias but still) There quite useful for quickly dispatching enemies in the earlier parts of the game.

I haven't seen FFXII's sommons before, anyway...Bahamut is a airship (Not a summon) just like Iflet.

For me, the problem is usually because the summoner of the Esper gets killed to easily with all of his/her MP gone, which kind of sucks when facing large groups of enemies or really powerful enemies.

But they still have been sort of helpful. Belias did help me kill many Marks that would have normally been too strong for me to face. For example, I beat Ring Wyrm at around less than lvl 20 thanks to Belias. And Marilith too, which I beat at around lvl 20 as well thanks to Belias.

Though the problem is when I face enemies that summon little minions to help it (and they are usually more powerful than me too) such as Adremmalech (I think I spelled it wrong) and the summoner is usually the one that gets killed before Belias.

Yeah pretty much. Quickenings are a better spend of mana (especially once you start being able to make chains of 9+).

Bahamut is a giant fortress not an airship. And Ifrit is not Iflet O_o :p

Yeah and you were just saying how you wished he was a summon in it right? I know the summons are pratically useless I've only used each one once except for Adrammalech and Famrit which i just didn't feel like using. I thought the reason why they were dying so much was because I didn't level up my Espers. They really should've used them like they did in X X's were way more useful.

I have only 3 Espers and surprisingly use them alot especially Belias he helped me alot against the Ring Wyrm Hunt. Yeah but i do miss Bahamut alot busting out all of the Mega Flares right when you need them most.

Well Espers level up as you do, the higher your character level the higher the espers HP and stats become. You wont get any new moves or action's though

One good use for the summons is :save:elemental immunity:save: :D

Any monster stupid enough to use a single elemental attack is you're perfect chance to bust out some Elemental Espers.

Well to be perfectly honest with you, I find the summons to be pretty useless in all the FFs except for FFIV. So to me, they've always been nothing more than "eye candy" or glorified mages...

I actually use the Espers quite a bit. I just don't use them in Boss fights or major Mark hunts. I usually use them to power level individual characters or to deal with cannon fodder on my way to a mark hunt or the end of the map. Though they do come in handy as Diango12 mentioned with "elemental immunity". Of course there are summons like Chaos and Ultima which are actually pretty good overall as long as you watch the battle and try not to get swarmed. Usually, my caster gets killed before my summon does so I find the stats of the beast to be okay.

When I first got Belias, he pwned. When I got Mateus, well I got Adremelech shortly afterwards so he didn't look too good in comparison... Adremelech, wow, he was floating around killin stuff like Freeza or soemthing O.o
I just got Cuchulain, could be a little more helpful but, his one hit pwntage is... well, pwntage. I love espers so far! And they do come very useful in boss battles, I beat the 2nd judge without doing anything, Adremelech did it all for me.
I love Espers as much as Quickenings. <3

Hm I don't know. I'm partial to summonings I guess. Sometimes I'll summon and it'll do as much damage as my three-player party would if I just whack at things normally. I do like the prettiness of it all though. :D? I guess they'd be more useful if it were fire against ice and so forth.

Espers are bad because they consume MP!
I use them if i get ambushed by strong enemies.It seems that Espers can attract foes.That's the only thing they're good for though :( !

And I have not changed my mind those espers are useless. Though I did find Belias to be useful in opening the door to Gurvegan. They are also good for dispatching elementals and entities. And that mini sin's (Zodiark) ultimate attack is pretty damn good for wiping out Archadia and the like with a grand total of 50,000 Damage!

No, it means that they're right at the peg under useless. Think about it a little harder. You could use them to kill flies or something.

They aren't quite extinct, but they're the next thing to it.

I love using Exodus, Zalera or Zeromus to kill tose pesky dogs at Golmore or Baknamy on the the Necrohol when they gang up on my party.

They should change the name from Esper to "Esterminator" though. The fiends drop like flies! :D

It's much more efficient to run about with your normal party. Especially when you hit level 50 or so.

I only use my summons for fun or if I have a character that is low level, but that's about it.

I only really found summons useful in FFX with the stat development.

FFVIII for the ub3r development.

and FFVI for the same reason as the above.
