I was playing my 40 hour save file last night when I had a bad storm in my area. I was saving my file and the saving was RIGHT at the very end and I lost power. A few seconds later, my power came back on and I put this game pack on and guess what?! My 40 hours of game were GONE!!!:mad2:
Oh well, I guess and excuse to start a new game and try for the Zodiac Spear.:D

I'd be pissed too, however, I'd love to see Ghis again <333

This is why you always have at least two save files, where you always overwrite the oldest.

I only have one, so I better not save when there's a storm.

I said at least. The bare minimum to prevent yourself for technical problems like that.

Weird that it caused it to delete all of it. But yeah, I probably use 4 or 5 save spots, I save on a new spot when I think I messed up somewhere.

In a computer system (such as the PS2 is), if writing to a file is interrupted, the file usually becomes corrupt. Seeing as each FF12 save is one file, the file that was being written to when the power was cut becomes corrupt. This is why you're told to never turn off the power while the game is saving. The only thing that would have been unusual in this case, would be if other files on the memory card also got corrupted. Sometimes you can get lucky though. I've accidentally pulled the power cord while saving, and the file didn't become corrupted.

Being paranoid, I have a good twenty or so files.

FFX, on the other hand, has around 50, due to me playing that game far too much, and far too often...

20? 30? Thats ridiculous, saving would take forever. You're all crazy... CRAZY I SAY.

But having 2 is a good idea, I shall implement this. Yes.

I'd fill as many slots on the memory card I could with saves and then when I get to the end I'd save over the very oldest. I'm borrowing someones PS2 and memory card though to play FF12 and it only has 3 slots so I usually save over the same slot until I do something in the story, or kill a very hard mark/boss etc.

If you're just levelling and returning to save crystals to refresh your team and save your progress theres not much reason to use a new save slot, however if you're progressing through the story its a good idea to use a new slot for many reasons.

Ten save files takes forever for the card to read. Two makes it pretty snappy.

You only need two. One is for if you get stuck in a dungeon or something, you can go back.

pity
you've lost the saved file
but hey, you sound ok with it ^^
that's what I liked

once my memory card has busted - and I'm mad until now >.<
because I lost my saving point for FF XII

KasaiDraco - you looked at the bright side - unlike me!
bless you

Thats happened to me a few times, never on a game where Ive racked up more than 20 Hours though, if that had happened, I'd surely be pissed.

I've usually got three save files, not because of technical issues (that never occured to me til I read this thread), but because I'm paranoid that I might've missed something and don't want to lose the ability to go back to it unless I'm sure it won't hamper my progress, which is when I overwrite the older file...

Heh, I'm already 4.5 hours into my new game. :)
Well, at least this time around, I'll get the Zodiac Spear. I' m already using 2 files to save my game.
