I was just browsing the net, looking for some good, and free, game to waste a "couple of hours" on. Anybody knows any good ones, i.e. something you can play over 40 hours?

I'm thinking more in lines of Enemy Territory, America's Army and Anarchy Online. Anything anybody?

Thanks in advance.

Well... this won't keep you busy for 40 hours, but it's certainly longer than most online games. If you like personality tests, or the idea of having an alternate life, or living a life differently, you'll probably enjoy playing through this once or twice.

EDIT: This site has a pretty good list of online games. Most are much shorter than 40 hours, of course, but some are addictive enough to make up for that: http://www.addictinggames.com/

There are a few free online MMO's you might want to try. One good one is Maplestory.

Planet Side.. You can pay to play if you want to get passed rank 6 but it isn't worth it.. Just download it, and play it for free lol.

Go for Gunz: The duel = www.ijji.com or www.gunzonline.com (Free Anime styled MMO third person shooter with "Matrix" elements such as running up walls and stuff) or Silkroad = www.silkroadonline.net (Free MMORPG thats WAY better than Anarchy online)

I would suggest Pirate King Online www.piratekingonline.com or Thing Thing Arena 2 (its a flash game, but incredibly addictive).

Thanks everybody so far. I've played Silkroad before, and Gunz.:p Didn't really like SR and Planet Side though. The later is the game with the awesome looking dwaves and funny golem-like folks? Gunz's nice though.

I know there are a LOT of MMORPGs out there, but I'm wondering if there are any other -full-, good games out there, which are slightly less generic. I've included Anarchy Online in the list because of it's style, i.e. not being yet another Medieval Fantasy RPG. So, anything original out there?

You alright?:p

Actually, PlanetSide look nice. I think I've confused it with PlaneShift.*shrug*

Can you just PM me the link?

Yeah, Planeshift is... rough yet, to say the least.

Nexuiz (http://www.nexuiz.com) is a really great free and open-source FPS with continuous improvements. There's also Alien Arena and Warsow, though I've not played much of either of those.

>>> Every free online game I have tried is a waste of time..

Personally I like more those simple Flash/Actionscript games, you just need a plugin, no need to download the whole game, register, install stuff in your computer, etc..

All games are anyway. There are some good free online games though. You just need to find them.

Quite a number of them weren’t always free, like Anarchy Online and Enemy Territory, the later being built upon a commercial game. And the others are more or less futile attempts of certain states to enlist more cannon fodder (America's Army). On a side note, I never got how a game where you are almost certain to get shot every second round is a good advertisement for joining the army...

I suggest maybe checking out www.mmorpg.com and see some reviews of pretty much every online role playing game available (that is known). Some are popular ones you have to pay for like FFXI, WoW, EQ2, etc. But they also have reviews for a lot of free ones, and even advertisements.

If you do want a somewhat quality free MMORPG, I'd suggest looking at Korean made ones. They seem to be the only ones that are decently made, and also free.

Americas Army is pretty awesome. About 40-50, each different in design and they all have a mission. If you join, tell me your username.

I've played it before actually, but that was years ago. Kind of got annoyed about the spawning times though.:p

Wow, that's actually the first MMORPG site that seems to have reasonable ratings. Kinda weird that WoW is so far behind though.

If you actually want an adventure/strategy game with a good storyline, I'd highly suggest the Myst series (though there's not much story in the first one, it really picks up in Riven and Revelations).

And about www.mmorpg.com, yeah it's been around forever. I have no idea why Guild Wars is up there, but I understand Everquest II. Everquest II has really picked itself up in the last couple expansions, as has FFXI. Though World of Warcraft still has the highest player base, I think, of roughly 8M or so, which is absolutely huge.

It became classed as MMO since Factions became available.

It was an MMO when I bought the first one too actually.:p
