View Full Version : It Could Have Been A T-Rex!!!!!

Sometimes I play my little FF1 game with savestates.

One big reason I do it is because in Elfland, for example, there are two different monster territories, if you will, and I savestate so I can get in a fight in each of them to see which fight I like best.

I noticed that there's a pattern. For example, in Elflang, 2 asps in one zone will mean 2 ogres in the next. Or at the peninsula, giants up top will mean geists in the regular area (Nasty combo because I only hunt Zombulls up there, and geists and giants both can totally ruin your day)

So I realized that there is a correlation between one monster type encounter and the monster type encounter in every other area of the game!

So- Back to my game - I'm in the ToF(Revisited), and I'm in the fire room, and I run into 3 Red Dragons.
I'm like, "wut?"
That room is only supposed to have R. Giants, Agamas, Fires, and Grey Worms. it's supposed to be the easiest room in the ToF. It's a break room of sorts, where you can Heal Staff up and slaughter Kary and brace yourself for the next two tough rooms and then Chaos.
I don't need 3 friggin' shots of blaze!

It's a rare fight.

I had save stated in one of the first rooms, about 6 fights ago. So I load the savestate, EXIT out, and run over to the Mirage Desert (Or whatever it's name is).
I get into 6 fights: T-Rex!
T-Rex corrolates with the abnormally rare R. Dragon battle in ToF Fire room.

Then I made a tremendous mistake!

I forgot to keep the savestate, all excited, you know? So now my game is only 3 short fights from the rare battle. Nevertheless, I shall compile a list from memory of the places I went to tell you about the rare fights.

If and when you see these encounters, you'll know now that if you were in the Mirage Desert, you would've been fighting the elusive T-Rex!

(This list will grow as I experiment more and, of course, recall more from my experiments)

:

Lupa Land: Long stretch to the Leifein Town: Single Wyvern (They usually come in 2s or w/ a Tyro)

Near Gaia or Onrac: Giant&Iguana Combo (Like in the Earth Cave Giant Hallway)

Sky Castle: A Fighter (Usually only found in ToF)

Ice Cave: Frost Dragons (Excluding when they guard the treasure chest)

Gurgu Volcano: Muck! (Rare in the Gurgu. Belongs in the marsh Cave. Unfortunately uneventful)

Earth Cave: Single Giant (I can't get to the deeper Earth Cave area:( I have a feeling it would be different.)

Sea Shrine: 2 Sea Trolls and a Lobster??? (Very Boring)

Elfland - Area around the Town: 1 Green Ogre and 2 Ogres! (Very exciting combo when you want gold in the early game)

Elfland - Woods to the West: Scorpions! (Very scary and annoying encounter for low level chars. Happened to me once, I had to run. And now I think that it could've been 2 reg and a green! Alas!)

Waterfall: Gas Dragon (Only 1. Quick 4000XP)

Marsh Cave: Werewolves (Maybe I should recheck this... Extremely boring.)

... More to come, I forgot Coneria, the sea, and some other places. More interesting would be the Mirage tower.

Ugh, I wish I could get back into the ToF!
More, I wish (Though it's impossible now and even then) that I could've gotten to Tiamat's room, where I might have seen an Iron Gol for what would be only the second time in my entire life!

I'm a little bit confused by your post. Are you trying to say that every 6 encounters you get the 'rare' encounter? Meaning, every 6 fights in the mirage desert will be with the T-Rex?

Hell no.

I'm saying that the random encounters are all preset after the reloading of each game.

I can use a savestate and then go ghtough 5 random encounters and then reset that savestate and the 5 random encounters will still be the same.

If I savestate before those 5 encounters, go to the inn, and then restart the game, the encounters will be on a different preset, and that will change things.

I haven't figured out exactly how many encounters it takes to hit a T-Rex. Probably 256 or some number like that.

But, as you well know, the random encounters on land are different from those in the sea- So, once I have a savestate, I can choose to fight those 5 random encounters on land or in the dea, or in a dungeon.

Now, though the random encounters are preset with a savestate, they are still chosen through a random processing generator. That means that without a savestate, it is impossible to know which of the random encounters will be chosen at any time.

My particular savestate has allowed that, in the course of six of those preset random encounters, the sixth will be a randomly generated encounter with a T-Rex.

Using that savestate, I have been able to determine which random encounter is the "rare" one in many different places in the game.

That way, if you run into one of the paties I listed, you'll know that you hit the extremely rare random encounter, randomly. It would have been a T-Rex, but instead it's 2 sharks and 3 red sahags.

I hope that all made sense.

It sure sounded confusing when I wrote it, and I ain't gonna read it over.

RPG mechanics are a funny little thing, aren't they?

What surprises me is that apparently it's possible to fight Garland's first form on Tiamat's floor in the ToF.

That's not true.

Unne's either joking or screwed up there. The monster that should be in it's poplace is the Iron Gol[em]. And it would be the only place where the Iron Gol can be found.

Funny thing is right after I posted the "Where can I find the t-rex?" thread, I fought about 5 battles and found him, and not only that, but I went straight to Tiamats floor and found 2 Iron golems just as easily.. how about that? :p its a shame they are super rare really, because they kick every other enemy in terms of difficulty and experience

From what i've read ff1's random encounters work off a random list where encounters are given a frequency, i think it adds up to about 100 diffrent encounters.
so the rare t-rex and the 3-fire dragons, are the lowest frequency, and that combnation is just a few away from your save state
(Man i sound like a smartar** here)
