View Full Version : Respect the spoon.

I feel that, in the brave new world of silverware, the spoon is overlooked, forgotten, and ultimately left dejected in a drawer somewhere. This is unacceptable.

It's true that the spoon might not be the most effective utensil. Knives can slice through meat with ease, unless you're a bad cook and royally fuck up your food.

Forks can stab, scrape, hold, and are just generally the silverware equivalent of Ben Franklin. It seems that even the bastard child of the spoon and the fork, the spork, is more useful than the spoon.

The spoon is good for spooning, and that's about it. But what we have forgotten--what we never notice--is just how elegant the spoon really is. Its smooth, graceful curves and perfect figure make up for all that it lacks in usability. And, as an added bonus, spoons double as figures of speech for sexual innuendo.

So which utensil do you really prefer? The fork, the knife, and the spork are the obvious choices. On the surface, at least, they appear to be the real winners. But look deep inside yourself and reflect upon the spoon. There is magic there. Magic that can't be expressed with a pointier instrument. If you have been so enlightened, spread the word of love for spoons and help raise spoon awareness around the world. Long live the spoon.

Originally, I was a knife man, but your epic descriptive powers have swayed me in favour of the oft-neglected spoon. You are a credit to spoon society, Wesley my good man.

Gotta be the spork. No other utensil has managed to blend poking and spooning so well.

Spork it can do everything a spoon and fork can.

I use different cutlery in different situations to get the best use out of that individual piece of cutlery’s strengths, yet not being too hindered by its weaknesses. A fork isn’t as good at getting soup into my mouth as a spoon is, a spoon isn’t as good at picking up a meatball as a fork could be, and I always get peas with a knife.
I have never thought about preferring one over the others, and I don’t think I ever will; apart from using them for eating & as makeshift tools in a few other areas, I just don’t really care about them.

Chopsticks. Why you ask? Because splinters in every bite makes you a man.

I'll go with the fork because it does everything the others do and I use them pretty much for everything (except maybe stirring coffee but I'm willin to give it a shot).

My vote most definitely goes to the greatness that is the spoon, and not just any spoon, the teaspoon. I've gone so far in my spoon-worshipping that I refuse to use any other utensil. The versatality... you can spread butter with a spoon, you can cut up things with a spoon. All you need is determination to learn the right technique.

And yes, I'm being as serious as can be.

Gosh! All these good points about spoons I never knew! Maybe I should change my vote.

Although I use spoons the most, I prefer holding and using knives.

I'm an Incredible Fork Man.

Look me up at TheIncredibleForkman.com

But I chose spork because I have no self control and I follow my Id wherever it may go.[/spoiler]

Do not go to that aforementioned website. It is not mine. I have never been there. I just made it up. I wish I hadn't advertised because one of you screws will check it out and blame me for whatever you see there, and I'll probably get banned and I'll never even know what's going on!

Make love to a woman. Or maybe you can. How the hell should I know? That damned spork has seen more action than I ever have. :mad2:

There is no spoon.

My most used utensil would be the fork, followed by the teaspoon. I rarely use a spoon. :cat:

This poll takes a very narrow definition of utensil. What of the spatula, or the noble egg whisk?

Sporks obviously rule the roost. All it needs is a serrated edge along one of the handles and we can just use them for all our cutlery needs. :)

Of course spoons are the best, but you forgot Knorks/Fifes.

I like little tiny weeny spoons, but I never like to eat too much in one mouthful so forks are pretty good for cake and stuff, but icecream requires SPOON. I guess fork is still my favourite. :(

You forgot chopsticks, you slimey wench. Chopsticks can kill, and you can snatch flies with them.

Spork.

Why:

-It stabs.
-It spoons.
-It sporks.
-It calls piranha.
-It saved my life.
-Its a good head of states.
-Its a trustworthy brand.
-Its my best friend.
-Its a spork.

Spoons are the weaklings of the utensil race and therefore deserve to be outcompeted. After all, have you ever heard of someone being able to bend or break a knife or a fork with only his/her mind? Well, have you?

I rest my case. Down with spoons.

the spoon wins as far as carrying liquid goes.

Forks can replace chop sticks and knives both.

Well I have a plan to take over the world with sporks... but I digress. :shifty: The reason spoons take sporks is like whne you're eating like pudding you can never get all of it. The little jutted edges of the spork prevent you from eating all of that delicious pudding. So I go for spoon!

Forks can replace chop sticks and knives both.

Tell that to a Texan. Five seconds on each side, please.

By knives I meant 'breadknives' not steak knives. Those are more like slicing serrated blades.

Chopsticks are so ridiculously inferior that they didn't even warrant a mention.

Other utensils, like spatulas and egg whisks, are obviously special and important, but I was just focusing on the basic ones. Really, who would pick anything over a spatula?

Spork is the ultimate utensil, the fact it isn't winning the poll is shocking and disgusting.
