So Bright Eyes is my current obsession. Does anyone here like Bright Eyes, ASIDE from Chris (xX.Silver.Wings.Xx) (who introduced me to Bright Eyes ^^)?
My favorite songs are:
No Lies, Just Love
I Will Be Grateful for this Day
The Calendar Hung Itself...
Haligh, Haligh, A Lie, Haligh
First Day of My Life
Lover I Don't Have to Love
Easy/Lucky/Free
False Advertising
If Winter Ends
Pull My Hair
A Poetic Retelling of an Unfortunate Seduction

I'm Wide Awake It's Morning and Lifted are amazing albums. I don't really like Digital Ash in a Digital Urn.
Conor Oberst makes some great folk rock, but I'm no so sure about his attempts at other stuff.

Love Bright Eyes, especially Lifted which is a fantastic album. In contrast to the post above, I think Digital Ash was a pretty good attempt at something different, and it was a nice idea to release two simultaneous albums. Very much looking forward to the new album on April 9th.
I enjoyed Lifted, and became positively obsessed with Wide Awake when it was released. The older stuff is a bit more hit and miss, but it seems as though he's settling into a country-ish style as he gets older. Cassadaga's a further step in that direction, from what I heard when I saw him earlier this month.
Favourite songs would have to be First Day of My Life, At the Bottom of Everything, Make War and A Song to Pass the Time.
I'm Wide Awake It's Morning is a smurfing classic.

Really quality work. I love Bright Eyes, but I really don't like it when all of the musical elitists in the world are like "Bright eyes is so GAY! Listen to smurfing good music please..."

I prefer the more digital songs, myself. I loved I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning, but it was just a little TOO folksy for me. My current favorite album over all...hmm. I love Fevers and Mirrors, but Lifted and Letting off the Happiness are great too... I'm buying Digital Ash in a Digital Urn, Noise Floor: Rarities 1998-2005, and Cassadaga as soon as I can though.
I'm surprised so many people here liked Bright Eyes. I was expecting a bunch of OMFG GTFO STUPID EMO KID stuff here. :/
Bright Eyes = Emo?
I have to disagree with that strongly. Melancholy and sad? Yeah...and? That doesn't mean emo. Bright Eyes is definitely a folk rock/indie rock amd occasionally electronica band.

I like Bright Eyes. My husband's band covers one of their songs.

I realize that. I'm talking about the morons who say Bright Eyes is emo. I personally think a band isn't 'emo' unless they declare it themselves. But you do have to admit, it does fit the stereotype. Not to mention Bright Eyes has a HUGE emo fanbase.
EDIT@Shlup: What song?

Stylistically? No, I haven't ever heard an emo band that has a sound similar to Bright Eyes. Lyrical content? Probably. I would agree with you there. Which would better explain the emo fanbase.
That's just my take on it anyway.

Still doesn't matter either way I guess. I love it, even if they aren't emo.

Tokyo Showdown (my husband's band) covers Haligh, Haligh, A Lie, Haligh. I don't think they have any recordings up of it though. There might be one at www.tokyoshowdown.com but my laptop sucks and freezes when I try and load the page so I can't check.

I'd look for it if it weren't for those damn parental blocks.
I love that song though.

Seriously, Emo? If any Emo kids came to the Bright Eyes show I went to, I'm pretty sure the hipsters would sneer them TO DEATH.

I could see where people could get the emo tag from. But those people aren't talking about the new age emo crap. They are more referring to the early nineties stage of emo music. Did you know that Weezer's 'Pinkerton' album was widely considered 'emo' by the underground music scene when it came out?
Emo, can be lyrics, but nowadays in todays world, its more or less a haircut...
But I actually can see where the emo tag comes from...

I don't see how Weezer is emo at all. If they really were, chances are I would like them. I don't really care for them at all though.
By the way, think of me as a new and old-version-of-emo-music fan with a depressing personality and a new-age emo style.
@El Bandito:
I'm sure it depends on what type of area you're in. I can't think of anyone I know around my area who likes Bright Eyes that isn't an 'emo' kid.
But out of the style subject and back to the music topic, please.

I never did.
And thats no joke while you're all thinking it is.
I got you again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S PoeticallyPathethic, one question (not to be offending
or anything) but err are you like male or female? You don't seem
to active in the actual Final Fantasy place, girls seem to play
less games. And the purple siggy thing looks a bit feminine,
but I don't know. (I'm dead serious about this one)>
@PP hereunder: Personally I wouldn't expect a male to
use purple. Not a bad color though, kind of eyecatching.
You should color him red for Aprils fools day :P.

XD It's cool.
I'm male, and I used to be active in the FF forums, but the threads are boring there. I just prefer the general topics these days.
As for the sig, I like magenta/pink. Got a problem with it? :rolleyes2
I really love the folk album. Land Locked Blues and Poison Oak are gorgeous. The more mainstream album is eh.

I like Bright Eyes, and Desaparecidos, the other band Conor Oberst is in. I have a few favorite songs, but I don't feel like listing them.

It's mostly "Pinkerton". If that album were a person, they would literally explode from sexual frustration.

Some people say they disbanded, but Conor has said he may try to do another Desaparecidos record. However as my friend commented "he keeps saying that for years now", so may not be a very accurate statement XD
Might as well make this the Cassadaga discussion thread, as it's here.
I'm listening to it for the first time now, and it's definitely a development of the style Conor adopted on Wide Awake. A couple of the songs passed me by without really grabbing my attention, but there are plenty of nice tracks on here. I Must Belong Somewhere is as good as anything he's ever done, and there are some nice string parts on the likes of No One Would Riot For Less that give the record that bit of extra flourish. I haven't had time to fully digest the lyrics just yet, but first impressions suggest that he hasn't lost his touch. All in all, it's one of the best albums I've heard this year, and I can't wait to learn it inside-out. :)

I wouldn't say I really enjoy it, but it's not something grating.
A few tracks are alright, and almost made me think of a different Wilco or Ryan Adams.
EDIT: Just listened to First Day of My Life. It has some rather cute, little phrases in it that I liked.

Try some of the songs on the list I made (first post in the thread.) If you liked First Day of My Life, you might like them.
