So, uhm...What exactly are the Garif?

Like, we know the Viera are bunny gals, and the Urutan-Yensa are derived from crustaceans, but what are the Garif? They seem to be human-like, but much more bestial. And I wonder what their true faces look like...Here's a pic...

Garif are a Humanoid, Just like the Bakanamy and the little dudes in the Sandsea (I forgot their name). If you attack one of the Garif's on the Ozmose Plains, They go into your Bestiary which you need to complete so you can get a character in the Sky Pirate's Den, and it doesn't affect your friendship with the Garif.
