Salikawood/Moogle Gate problem

I'm writing this for a neighbor with no computer.

He's in the Salikawood, and when he tries to talk to Boss Moogle, there is nothing said about finding the 9 apprentices. Boss Moogle only speaks of how they were attacked and the King saved them.

My friend has gone on one hunt in the wood (I believe it was something with a bunny?) and defeated the King Bomb, prior to going to the North-Eastern gate.

He checked the map after talking to Boss Moogle, but the map was not marked where to find the apprentices.

I don't know what's going on, I found my way to the Phon coast no problem, but I didn't defeat King Bomb nor do any hunts...

I've tried Googling this to no avail.

maybe this event is triggered when your friend talks to one of the moogles that is resting?

So your friend goes to the Salikawood, talks to one of the moogles there, and then talk to moogles boss?

But at what part of the storyline is your friend? If he hasn't defeated the Judge at Mount Bur Omisace yet, maybe that's why he can't pass the Moogles boss?
