One thing i could never understand is that half of the party members you have--kill their selves, from deaths that you could hardly survive from.

Yang blows himself up in the room with the controls. He survives for some odd reason. Cid blows himself up, right in front of your eyes, and really his body should of been shattered to pieces or severely burnt at that sort of distance, especially considering that the bomb was detonated in the air. He clearly died, but he returns and is swiftly nursed back to health. I can accept Porom and Palom, because it's even explained and the Elder had revived them.

The only character who they actually let die was Tellah...Poor him.
But seriously, just tell me or make up stories how these two guys managed to still live--so that you can ease my unanswered questions.

Yang is a monk and has incredibly fast regeneration or crap like that and Cid's beard saved him by... attacking the explosion?

With Yang, it's fucking unrealistic that he survived. I assumed that the Sylphs found his corpse and revived him with their restorative powers.

Cid, I attribute it entirely to the heavy armor I had on him.

I am a firm believer that Cid's beard was involved in him surviving the explosion. :chef:

The thought about not letting Edge hit on Rosa or Rydia is what kept Cid alive during and after the explosion. :p

I thought Cid would at least used a Parachute.

But HEY. It is Final Fantasy, and i don't know how he managed to talk while falling down at such fast speed.

It was also responsible for every key event in the game. Cid's beard was the main character.

Yang: The room exploded, but the only damage Yang suffered was some real nasty burns. The Sylphs found him and used their restorative abilities. Plus, Yang's a monk; he's quite resilient. You can't take down that kind of person so easily.

Cid: Cid threw the bomb above him. Since he put some distance between himself and the bomb, he didn't suffer from the explosion (guess the perspective was a little off there). However, it was a long drop, so he suffered quite a bit of damage. I wouldn't be surprised if he broke some bones. You'll notice that Cid takes a long time to recover. When he makes airship modifications, he needs the nurses to help him walk around. I think this kind of illustrates my point.

That's all true, but if you think about it--the drop would of 99% killed Cid.
If you look at the height of his fall, plus the impact from the bomb; regardless of the fact of the distance. But it was actually still quite near to him.

I can believe the story of Yang staying alive, because of his sheer resilience--but you must be kind of foolish and gullible to believe Cid didn't die. It is Final Fantasy after all, so anything can happen...

The state of a male characters beard determines their awesomeness in FFIV. Beard growing is different in that world; if you are awesome, you find it easy to grow a beard, it has nothing to do with genetics.

Cecil - Is the main character, and is therefore not allowed to have a beard, which exempts him from this rule. Seriously, find me one main in an RPG with a beard.

Cid - Has a brilliant beard, and is awesome.

Edge - Has no beard. Is ashamed of this, and wears ninja mask to disguise the fact. But we aren't fooled, Edge. We know you are not awesome enough.

Edward - Has no beard, and writes emo songs to lament this fact.

FuSoYa - Has an awesome beard, and is awesome to teh max.

Kain - Could have a beard if he wanted to, but it would fly up into his face when he peformed jump and obscure his vision, leading to an early, tragic and comical death.

Tellah - Has a sucky beard, which is nearly as bad as no beard.

Palom - He is FIVE.

Yang - Has a moustache. He isn't overly bright and got the rule wrong.

But seriously, what darksword 12 said seems pretty good.

Edge - Has no beard. Is ashamed of this, and wears ninja mask to disguise the fact. But we aren't fooled, Edge. We know you are not awesome enough.
Also, Edge is always getting smacked around like a red-headded step-child in battle. This is due to his lack of beard.

Edward - Has no beard, and writes emo songs to lament this fact.
He also hides during battle so no one will see his baby-butt-smooth face.

Kain - Could have a beard if he wanted to, but it would fly up into his face when he peformed jump and obscure his vision, leading to an early, tragic and comical death.
I can see Kain having a beard, since we only ever see him from the back at the end of the game. Perhaps if we saw him from the front, it would have been something like this:

Yang - Has a moustache. He isn't overly bright and got the rule wrong.
Poor Yang, always thinking with his fists, never his head...

Let's not forget some of the other near-death experiences. Rydia and Edward get sucked into a giant whirlpool. Cain and Cecil survive a fire and an earthquake. The twins are stoners.

Rydia probably had an invisible beard to accompany her bushy eyebrows-this is why Leviathan accepted her (and not Edward, who was washed to shore in a land of women who wore purple...He fits right in).

No. What Rydia lacks in a beard she makes up for by being really, really hot.

See, when she was a child she was not hot. Hence her sucking. But as an adult, sweet sultry JESUS is she hot. Therefore, awesome.

We ARE talking about FF2 here (SNES version, at least) :D

Anyways, I have a theory on the survival of Cid and Yang. Never fear, it involves Cid's beard. ;)

It's all because everyone in the FFIV world worships Chuck Norris. The only reason they never speak his name is because Chuck forbids it. Cid and Yang were the high priests of Baron and Fabul respectively. They show their position by emulating Chuck in some way; Yang's kick attack was in honour of the roundhouse kick, and Cid tried to look like Norris in beard and physique. Chuck Norris was proud of his two most faithful disciples, and so performed miracles to show to the world his power and his mercy; he roundhouse-kicked Yang into the Slyph cave moments before the room exploded (Yang's screams of pain were not due to his flesh burning, but the far more painful experience of meeting with the foot. Cid, on the other hand, Chuck switched with a figurine of himself, which he mentioned in passing to one of his many girlfriends, Marle, and inspired the switcharoo event in Chrono Trigger. He then took Cid to the Dwarven Castle. Both of them were sworn to secrecy, since Chuck Norris told them he'd be back, to destroy the world, if they ever told anyone. EVER.

well, here in philly, a guy got hit by the L train a few weeks ago, but he's going to be able to walk again. so i would say anything's possible.

Cid's the top engineer in the world, so I'm sure he knows alot about explosions and has been caught in them a few times.

Yang is a top-tier monk, and must have spent years, if not decades to prepare for pain.

a little more realistic than the beard theories, but no more credible.

I wonder if the second version of Rydia really is an adult? Rosa is only 18 or 19, right? Rydia, outside of her child form, is never given an age.
