Alright, here goes:

Because I can no longer afford to pay the bills and the google ads are sucking, I have decided to accept an offer from an interested party to sell eyesonff.com (and satellite sites).

First, I'm sorry if this disappoints you in any way. However, I have worked for the past 9 months for free teaching at a high school and I have very little money. Therefore, I know I cannot continue to pay the server fees or ask for donations every month.

Second, very little will change (hopefully). The buyer is Yusuf Mullan, owner of KHinsider and zeldauniverse (and many other successful sites). He has purchased both of these sites and they're both still effeciently run by the user community. This sale to this person indicates that he has the ability and knowhow to keep eyesonff.com online for much longer than I can, and that should be the goal. He is very concerned about maintaining user loyalty and site quality.

The transfer of ownership is already complete, with a forum announcement being the last step. He has asked me to create an admin account for him, but I very much doubt he will make much use of it besides editing templates and whatnot (but who knows).

Thanks for understanding where I'm coming from. This decision, like the dozens of others I have turned away, was not easily reached. I'm not disappearing; I'll probably be around about as much as I have been during the last year. I want to do everything possible to make the transition smooth and quiet.

From what I understand, there will be no staff change (on the site or on the forums) and ads will actually be removed for logged in users (on the forums, at least).

This is not a late April Fools joke. Promise. (Look at the whois info for eyesonff.com)

If you want to discuss this, please do so in this thread (so we can avoid having 20 threads in General Chat about the subject).

That's what I was thinking, as I was under the impression that the site was actually making a loss, and that server bills were partially paid from Cid's own pocket. Meaning that some changes are given, as I'm sure this guy wants to make his money back.

I dunno. I can see Lynx's point. I don't really want a huge user base. I like the small tightly knit community we have here. You know, our few enough regular users. Newbies everyonce in a while. It is nice. If anything, a few to many newbies. But I can't really speak, I used to be one. And probably wasn't the favorite newbie ever. The occasional burst of newbies isn't so bad once they sort themselves out and either stick or go. But I do like it small.

I've avoided posting here not because I think this was a bad move but because I haven't much to say I was at the uk meetup with hero, baloki and psy all 3 have told me already pretty much all there is to know. The only thing I have said is a shame is that the site was never offered up for sale to the members or site staff. It would have been a nice gesture even if a group of us couldn't afford the place it'd have been offered to us.

This new owner however has my full support and like Cid said himself, he aint going anywhere he'll be an admin but he won't be the top admin.

Let's see.. I don't come to EoFF knowing Cid owns it, its the community as a whole. As I mentioned, to me, EoFF is an online family, and that family consists of certain, dedicated, reliable staff members that are known among the community. Your example of Cid owning other websites of his own is different, his community wasn't sold, he was the one in charge and doing what's needed to be done.

Eyes on Final Fantasy was a single website with a big name, it was quite the popular Final Fantasy site, it wasn't advertised with multiple others, it was a solo act concentrating on one goal.

As shown above, spdude shows his work together, he names his multiple owned websites, and doesn't give special credit to specific ones, this is where EoFF will lay, as just another one of those websites. My point is, it lost some of it's strength.

Ask yourself this, if it wasn't such a big deal, why did it even need to be revealed to the community? Cid is still doing his same old job on the website, he simply can't pay for it. That's all fine and everything, but why would the community need to know if nothing is going to change besides a new name as Admin? This easily could've been kept between staff members and didn't need to be released to the public, sure, it was nice to let us know, but it was unnecessary.

as for the barring of other's opinions, when you return fire and debate or hash something out, especially when dealing with sheer opinion, you are barring or hindering formed opinions.
