I think that the ending, much like the game, was a little too encompassing of Squall Leonhart and Rinoa Heartilly. I have not watched the ending on YouTube, and it has been many years. Wasn't the rest of the cast delegated to a mere home movie in the credits?

It's been a while....

Let's see - it's done to the song "Eyes on Me" which I think is what makes it particularly emotional (the power of music etc) and a pretty good ending. As endings go it's pretty good, but yeah it's lacking in involvement of the other characters.

Last scenes - The others begin their journey together back through time, but they're separated from Squall.

Squall arrives along with the dying Ultimecia at the orphanage of the past. Squall explains that he's from the future and basically tells Edea to form SeeD so they can defeat Ultimecia and therefore get to the point where they area now. (Yes, that makes my brain hurt too). Ulti passes her sorceress powers onto Edea and dies.

The child Squall appears and asks who that man is, Edea says it's someone who doesn't belong there and he should go.


Video begins....

Squall gets lost in the edge of time or whatever it is and wanders until he collapses. He suffers flashbacks, hallucinations and the inability to remember Rinoa's face before passing out.

Cue music, here comes Rinoa!

Rinoa finds him but he appears to be dead. Seconds later the clouds part and they find themselves in that flowery field. Squall's fate is not revealed at this stage (although there's a clue), you're left spending the rest of the ending wondering if he died.

Seifer is seen fishing with his wind and thunder sidekicks, garden flies overhead, he appears quite "normal" and seems to contemplate his emotional attachment to this past association - before Fujin kicks one of them into the water (darned if I can remember which)

It's all very bittersweet next, Old Man Laguna visits Raine's grave, and you see a flashback of the young Laguna proposing to her out in a field. It's really sweet, too bad she died. Ellone and I think Kiros+Ward catch up with him, garden flies over, song ends, credits roll

During credits -
The rest of the characters are seen celebrating along with Cid and a human-looking Edea. Zell finally gets his hotdogs but chokes on them in front of the library girl XD Erm, the others lark about a bit.

Just approaching the end - Selphie points to something a-happening on the balcony. Rinoa is spotted giving someone "the finger". Then I think the camera battery dies and you don't get to see what happens next.

Credits roll.

FF obligatory "Hidden" ending after the credits:
The balcony scene continues. Rinoa gives the finger. Camera moves to reveal that Squall is alive and well, he returns the finger and SMILES :eek: :eek: :eek:, they kiss, garden flies off into the moonlight. Teh end.

It's better when you've earned it though :p

Greatest Beginning to..I think...any video game ever. However, the ending lacked a little in my opinion. Especially the whole flashback/helmet breaking/Rinoa dying in space thing. Everything else was magnificent.


FFVIII = Best directed FMV's. maybe 10 beats it...

I think X's directing was a bit bad. Twelve beats it in camera shots, angles, and FMV's hands down. Especially the Star Wars kind of battle at the end.

Oh did I mention, through all the time paradoxes and weirdness it's highly likely that Rinoa is in fact the young Ultimecia and Squall is destined to be stuck in a time loop piercing his lover's heart with his gunblade over and over for eternity.

Well, technically that's not part of the ending (Squall's father), that's part of the hints dropped through the latter half of the game :)

Pretty scary stuff..all of a sudden you ultimecias face on her face..kinda makes you thinking.

And no, I dont think the theory is stupid, its in fact the best theory I've ever heard when it comes to a computer game.
