It just occurred to me to start a thread about the music scene of our country.

As evident in my location, I'm from the Philippines and our music industry is a tolerant amalgamation of creativity and rip offs.

Anyway here's a sample of one of our bands Up Dharma Down. The song is Pag-agos (http://h1.ripway.com/Haize/UpDharmaDown-Pag-agos.wma) (meaning "Flow"). Hope you like it! :D

August (http://www.myspace.com/rockaugust) and Far Less (http://www.myspace.com/farless) both came out of my hometown. :) Not too fond of Far Less but they are extremely talented.

Fort Wayne, IN has a rather expansive hardcore/metal scene. If you like that kind of music, look up Saints Never Surrender, Agatha, Amarna Reign, and Before Their Eyes (even though they're from Ohio, not Fort Wayne, and they're more screamo than hardcore).

My friend Ioannis introduced me to the music of Tsitanis Basillis (sp?) some of which is ok.

Ouchies! Death Metal! Now I don't hate the genre. I just can't seem to appreciate it. (No flames please)

Ever wondered why almost all metal bands come from Europe?

I like Saying Sorry. :D

Cambridge has a bit of a music scene. Some people I know have a few CD's out.
I'm too lazy to look up & link anyone, but they're pretty awesome.

In terms of local bands, Every Time I Die (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Irof0Bu6lkE) is from Buffalo, and they used to play a lot in Erie.

They use to play every week practically from like 2001-2002 or so and then they got "big?" after Last Night in town.

As for local bands, a majority of local bands where I lived (I still consider it home) are sxe hardcore bands.

Represent http://www.myspace.com/xrepresentx (my friend derek is in this band)

EDIT: after some research and the amount of painting i've done today i can no longer continue with this search of good erie bands. perhaps that means there aren't any.

There are some pretty famous bands from Athens. The B-52s, R.E.M., Of Montreal, Neutral Milk Hotel. There are plenty of other good ones, too.

One of my favorites, that I've seen live, is Cinemechanica. They play some live shows under the names "Mega Band" and "Contraband" where they play Mega Man or Contra on a big screen and perform a rock rendition of the soundtrack. Kickass stuff.

I think there's a lot of really cool rock/bluesgrass/folk bands that have come up over the years in Australia. Some to name are Mick Hart, Something For Kate, Silverchair, Powderfinger, Augie March, John Butler Trio, Carus, Xavier Rudd, Alex Lloyd, and a few others that escape my mind right now.

There are actually many great Danish bands/artists these days (it didn't always use to be that way, though), and here are some of the ones worth mentioning:

- Mew (Zookeeper's Boy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WwkN_EUhJc))
- Swan Lee (I Don't Mind (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Op_SuKL8_gA))
- Kira and the Kindred Spirits (Losing You (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqYn9bt_iSE))
- Savage Rose (Smile (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsEllHicxYo))
- D-A-D (Disneyland after Dark) (Sleeping My Day Away (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdDrDa9PGJg))
- Kashmir (Rocket Brothers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWgqIzt6Lzo)) and (The Aftermath (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfRRMTn2-7M))
- Junior Senior (Move Your Feet (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F07YUCCLdYo)) and (Can I Get Get Get (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtKAKKPZr04))
- The Raveonettes (Love in a Trashcan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGaA1D-scGg))
- Trentemøller (Evil Dub (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97fuFZbVVnw))
- Blue Foundation (End of Days (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWgU7arwSJ8) and Save This Town (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9QJfk2w69A))
- Oh No Ono (Practical Money Skills for Life (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVkGtqkirwY) and Keeping Warm in Cold Country (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l19j3MeywHg))
- Sort Sol (Let Your Fingers Do The Walking (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRTJiQ1kBmw))

I couldn’t find any of the songs with Savage Rose that I wanted to, so I had to compromise – Anyway, enjoy.
