I need help with my homework. I cannot find the answers on the internet of books and I am not a gardener. It would be greatly appreciated if you could help out with these questions:

1) Which plants prefer bases?

2) Does the pH of the soil affect the colour of the flowers? Give at least one example.

3) Which substances do gardeners add to the soil to make it:
a) more acidic?
b) more basic?

Thanks.

Maybe you should try looking for websites that feature probotany and hydroponics, instead of gardening.

Hydrangeas are blue in alkaline (base) soils and pink in acidic soils.

Most fruit trees like acidic soils : Cherry, apple, peach....

Pine trees like acidic soils and release needles that acidify the soil around them. Adding pine needles to acidify soil is not as good as adding the proper chemical but it is safer.

Lime makes soil alkaline (base) but has to be added in very small quantities or it kills plants.

I thought urine was basic. 'cause of the pneumonia and stuff.
