View Full Version : Which Final Fantasy had the best story?

Story includes, but not limited too, plot, characters, setting, conflicts, point of view (IE FFVI had a third person point of view while FFX/X-2 was first person), etc.

So keep that in mind.

For me, currently I think Final Fantasy VI has the best story line, but IV makes a close second. I am starting to like FFVIII's storyline (unlike some) and perhaps once I get further in FFIX I will like the storyline too.

Right now FFVI has 100% of the votes. I should relish this while I can since it will undoubtedly change soon. Shame really.

A tie between IX and Tactics for me but I chose IX. Best FF imo.

I chose FF7, but FF6 comes very close.

It's me, or I'm the only one who has voted FFT?

I chose XII, because of the strong political aspect, but VII was near.

I say IX had the best story, followed by Tactics Advance. FF V and III are close followers.

The story in VII is the very definition and essence of story.

Yay my game is in the lead FFIX has the most captivating story it pleads on love, philospohies, and just getting on through life and finding your path. Final Fantasy IX has my favorite story out of the series and is my favorite game period.

X because it is one of the few stories that has no major plotholes or inconsistancies.

The best story imo is the story of FF IX and maybe FF VII.

I was very tempted to vote for IX just so VII didn't win, but I went with my real pick instead-- I. I know, it doesn't have much of a story and the time loop never has made sense and never will. That's cool.

I like the fact that the game is what you make of it. Your characters don't all have to be the dim-witted meatshields, do-gooders, people with absolutely no personality whatsoever (because everyone seems to think no personality=badass for some reason), or damsels in distress turned white mages. They're whatever you want them to be, and it's different each time through. Each playthrough conjures up new fantasies about the five sky warriors and how they met their fate as bats. Each playthrough means a new way you try desperately (and fail) to make sense of the time loop. A new fantasy about how Garland went from a great general to a ridiculously weak boss. Cinematic scenes are nothing compared to imagination. I'll take that over reliving the same cliches in every playthrough anyday. Not that I'm putting down the stories of the other FFs, I just love the simple charm and freedom of mind allowed in I.

FF10, without a doubt.

It was certainly different from past stories, with the whole religion side to it and not to mention, very entertaining and I didnt want to skip it.

Tactics

The political and religious machinations in Tactics are far superior to those of either X or XII.

Not to mention Ramza is an incredible lead character.

I think gamespot put it best when they said, "if shakespeare were to make a video game it would be final fantasy tactics."

It's hard to pick one...even the older games have that charm to their stories that I can't ignore. For now, I'll just pick 'Other' since I can't decide.

FF VII - No doubt, nothing will ever beat it.

It's a shame that people are neglecting FF V.

It's a shame that people are neglecting FF V.

It did have a lot of cliches though...

But I think Final Fantasy V gets the most picked on story... I mean I think it is at the level which should be used as a standard for all JRPG storylines. Sure many titles suppressed it (FFIV, VI-X), but FFV can be used as a standard for storylines.

Final Fantasy 6 rocked on the story part, because you really got absorbed by it. :monster:

FFX! It's got my favorite story and my favorite music to enhance the experience n.n

FFX-2 had potential, but because you're doing sidequests unrelated to the plot the whole game you don't see a lot of the main story. It ruined it u.u

Even FFII has a good story, many of the originals do, except for the first one.
