Remember how Nikki said to come visit him after defeating the Sage on the Zelbess? If you finished the events at the Dead Sea without doing that, you can't do the concert, meaning you can't fight the Black Dragon, meaning you can't get the Black Plate or the Master Hammer to make rainbow equipment. Well, there's always a New Game Plus, right?
