This afternoon I just dropped warMech in 6 hits with my 27th level party of 4 black belts. Tiamet faired slightly better and lasted 7 hits.

I have screen shots that I will upload in a few days. I have to say, 4 BBs (not even class changed) has been by far the most fun party I have ever played in FF1 (not DoS, pure FF1).

Next week when I go after chaos, I will record a video.

You must really hate your life, d00d :)

Congratulations though, four BBs is not a party I would ever consider, though at least it's slightly more reliable than 4 BMs.

Actually, I have a black belt in my party and he's doing quite well. Most of the time I don't give him armor for the Absorb boost, but even with the defense of a mage, the BB's really dishing it out.

Next week when I go after chaos, I will record a video.

As soon as you have done so, I demand you upload it and send a link to this particular member. (http://forums.eyesonff.com/members/dr%2Bunne.html) Don't ask why, just do it.

The pics are a little chopped up since I only have paint on my laptop and I was trying to get them under 100k.

But there are my four little dudes rocking away.

PWNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dropped Chaos on my first attempt with 4 level 30 black belts! No healing potions used since Kraken.

10 hits to kill Chaos... okay so during the chaos fight all but one monk died.. but who cares, its chaos and I was level 30. Some more level crunching and more would have lived.

And I have a video, unfortunately, it is 50 meg.

I kept a journal of my progress with my four little dudes, here is what I recorded.

*********************

Healing helms/staff are your friend. If there are less than four monsters left, the remaining monks are healing the party with the heal items. This made it possible to go potionless from the water temple on.

Order is interchangeable - as your Monks get hurt, move them to the end of the line, keeping your higher HP monks in the front

Tents are cheap healing - since you only need to recover HP, tents are a cheap way to recover and save your progress.

Hands at level 7 - It may look like your hands will do less damage than silver nunchucks (14 vs 23) but you get multiple attacks with your hands and your critical hit rate SKYROCKETS, therefore it is a good idea to unequip weapons starting at level 7.

Amorless at level 9 - At level 9, your absorb is a 9 without armor which is the

same as a copper bracelt, cap, and gloves. However, if you go naked, you evade is a

58% at level 9 vs the 54% armored.

Level 13 - On average, can kill a giant in 2 hits.

Level 15 - On uncommon occurances, can crit into the 250ish range, killing a giant in one hit.

Level 20 - 400-500 damage output each monk.

Level 22 - lich and kary slain, possession of the tail.

Level 25 - 800 Damage output possible per monk.

Bosses:
Lich slain in 5 hits at level 15, no damage taken.
Kary slain in 4 hits at level 21, took 1 hit to 1 monk for 193 damage.
Kraken slain in 4 hits at level 25, took 1 hit to 1 monk for 372 damage.
WarMech slain in 6 hits at level 27.
Tiamet slain in 7 hits at level 28.
Lich2 slain in 2 hits at level 29, no damage taken.
Kary2 slain in 2 hits at level 29, 390 damage taken to one monk.
Karken2 slain in 5 hits at level 30, 2 lit2s taken to the party.
Tiamet2 slain in 7 hits at level 30. Took two tries, bane ended the first attempt.
Chaos slain in 10 hits, with one monk left.

Problem fights:
Astos - unless you crit, you will do 1 damage, criticals will do a fair amount, the only challenge is critting before he destroys you with fire2 and lit2. I survived on the 4th attempt with all four monks living.

Tiamet2 - Bane ended one temple raid.

Well I thought my little guys could do better, so I started over again as soon as I recorded the last fight. Here is a picture of my second attempt in which all four BBs lived.

Black Belt rocks!

BB rocks in the NES, WSC, and Origins version.
BB does badly in the DoS version

But i'll agree that 4 BBs could kick it... so to speak in the older versions. With a high critical rate, he can pierce through high defense enemies..

And when leveled a bit, is basically an infinite supply of single target death spells.. as anything he attacks, dies.

Not true. I never liked using BBs in the NES version. My Master in DoS however, is even stronger than my Knight. And since it's DoS, he can use the special equipments that cast spells when used in battle when it's needed (Giant's Gloves and Healing Rod are especially handy.)

Black Belts in DOS are way stronger than knights.
