<font color="#DBDBDB">Well, I'm currently helping my friend format her laptop. One problem, though. She has an external CDROM drive (old, indeed), and whenever I run the boot disk, it cannot detect the CDROM for some reason.

When I type "D:" in DOS, it says something about invalid drive or something like that. What makes it even worse, is that I've already gone ahead and formatted the whole thing. The problem is just to install Windows 95, now (she needs it soon, and I can't get Windows 98 until next week).

Please help!

I'd like to help you, but I can't, coz I don't know enough stuff about that. Maybe someone else can help you. Sorry.

You need to load a DOS driver for your CD ROM drive if you want to use it in DOS. That involves adding a line to config.sys that includes MSCDEX, I think. I don't remember the exact things you need to do though. Something like MSCDEX /MSCD001 . That's not exact, but maybe someone else will recognize it and know the whole command.
