I have decided my new FFV challenge will be another single player challenge. Only this time i want to do it without mixing job abilities.

The rules will be:

:choc: Chosen character cannot make any action in battle until other existing characters are KO'd (unless that action is a direct attack on another character)

:choc: Other characters must never make an action unless that action is a direct attack on themselves.

:choc: Therefor no enemy can be attacked unless only one character remains.

:choc: Additional abilities can only be added if they are of the same class as the currently eqquiped class (example: Black magic cannot be equipped on anything other than a black mage. Doublegrip can ONLY be eqquipped to a knight)

There are no restrictions on weapons, armours and relics (exept for the class restrictions already placed)

I am buying FFVA this weekend (providing i can find a copy) I don't plan to play through it first (ive never played FFVA) So if someone could please provide as much information on the new job classes as possible i would be grateful (where to find them, how to get them, when you get them, what they can/can't equip, advantages/disadvantages, effects on your stats and abilities they can learn)

I'm also buying FFIII and may find myself playing it first tbh but it won't be long before this challenge kicks off i promise

Im at the final boss on FFIII and my copy of FFV:Advance should arrive midweek. I'll probabley begin as soon as i get it. Ive already given this challenge alot of thought and think i can complete it. But i wont get ahead of myself. Actually my only worries are Omega and shinryu :/

Are you allowed to use the bare classes? Since the bare classes automatically gains some of the other classes abilities, and wield all equipments etc. They wouldn't be able to use any special abilities, such as White Magic and X-Fight though... but I still guess the bare classes could be potentially very powerful.

I don't think i have plans to use the bare class (as ive given thought to strategies for all the bosses already) however im reluctant to rule it out completley because afterall it has disadvantages as well as advantages.

After some more planning and thought im not afraid of shinryu anymore... i think he will be possible although very difficult.

You say this is your first playthrough? I think it would be better to play the game seriously before doing this...

no, im sorry if i didn't make it very clear. Ive played and completed FFV many many times and successfully completed a single player challenge already. This is going to be my first time playing FFV:ADVANCE. So will only be unfamiliar with the new job classes.

So what happens if your chosen character is temporarily out of the party? Will you choose another character or play normally?

Shin Gouken

Good question. The rules are that my chosen character cannot attack while other characters are still alive (unless he is attacking them) My chosen character can change at any time. So long as each battle is fought with only one character it doesn't matter which character that is.

It's nessessary to level up Galuf for his one-on-one with Gilgamesh. Also Minotauras and Omniscient both have to be fought simultaneously so i need a second character levelled.

EDIT: Bad news.My copy of FFV:Advance finally arrived today but it was eaten! That's not a joke my dog actually ate FFV:Advance!! Do not fear, i have ordered another copy and it should be here by Monday

i doubt i will be fighting the new omega, neo shinryu and enue. I have never fought them before... my chances of victory would be zero

After the initial goblin fights i head straight for the recovery spring in the pirates cave and start leveling. Bartz kills Galuf and reina (ooooo she's lenna now lol) I get rather lucky here because in the battles directly after using the spring (where i have to kill Galuf and Lenna) i get pre-emptive strikes.

The enemies i fight here are Steel bats (dealing 4hp damage from front row and 2hp damage from back row, and 0hp with blood suck) and Devil crabs (dealing 3hp with pincer) It's easy to gain a few levels here (Im receiving between 14EXP to 25EXP, and picking up 40gil to 60gil per battle). I get my first back attack at level 7 where i have a hp of 129 so easily survive. I get to level 8 before moving on.

I pick up the leather cap which reduced the damage i received from stropers from 6hp to 4hp.

I made a save exactly 30minutes into the game and did the pirate scene... anyone notice that every single pirate has an eye patch?

I made a detour to Tule to pick up the items and buy potions ( i opted for 8) and headed for the Windshrine. Got my 5 free potions, fought two easily won battles and confronted Wingraptor.

Wingraptor: I used a number of potions here because he insisted on using windslash every turn he had. But he went down rather easily as you'd expect with him being the first boss

Was back attacked by some magey looking fellas who cast Fire and Blizzard on me (50 damage a shot is was nearly the end of me!) but i survived and made for the crystal room gaining my first set of jobs.

Im going to level a knight i first ive decided... the sooner i learn doublegrip the better. Leveling in the Torna canal should be easy... the monsters don't attack males so the enemies are basically free kills

I hope the mods will overlook double posting in this thread because i plan to update it very often :)

Believe it or not this is one of my most hated bosses in a single player challenge. Karl boss is a boss that can only be won by luck.
I fought over 50battles in the torna canal, gaining between 1 and 2 ABP per battle. I learned cover, gaurd and two-handed with my knight, and store, bare-handed and chakra when i changed to a monk. Im level 17 (one level below the level i beat Karl boss on my other challenge) It is nessessary to be this level to be able to kill this boss in two hits.
Last time in my single player challenge i could mix job abilities. I made a Thief with Bare-handed. That gave me first attack so i needed to survive an attack and hit him again.

The problem is, Karl bosses first attack always paralyses you, his second attack puts you on instant critical HP and his third kills you. You stay paralysed for one turn but your time bar resets after so Karl boss has two free hits after a paralyse attack.

This time i cant use a thief for first attack because a thief would need several turns to deal enough damage to kill him. I can only use a monk and hope i don't get paralysed

I was killed 5times before my luck came in. His first attack was a normal attack and i countered it, my next attack killed him.

Im now in the ship graveyard clearing random battles with the Monks kick ability

Shin Gouken

Siren: Went down incredabley easy because of the leveling in preperation for Karl boss. I used a Monk.

Siren: Slow
Me: Attack (Critical) 200dmg + 400dmg
Siren: Cure (60hp)
Me: Attack (K.O's her)

I headed straight for the nearest town and indulged in a long sword and the spells sleep, silence and protect. I didn't buy armour because there was nothing available for a monk and after the next boss there is another town to buy armour

I rushed throgh Hiryu mountain but still gained a level on the way up

Magissa: Another easily won battle

Magissa: Blizzard (50dmg)
Me: Attack (critical)
Magissa summons Faltzer
Faltzer: Attacks
Me: Counters Faltzers attack and gets a critical hit, Attacks, Faltzers dies
Magissa: Regan
M: Attacks (attacks average from 205dmg - 215dmg) Magissa dies

I cruise on my dragon and its awesome music straight to the next town, buy a kenpo-gi (for my monks defence) get through the scenes and head for Walse tower. Pick up the spoils inside (silver armlet adds to my defence) and confront Garula.

Garula: Attacks
Me: Counter attacks, Attacks
Garula (Counters, Attack, Rush) Attacks, Attacks
Me: Counter Attacks, Attacks, Garula dies.

I saved after the tower sank

Help! I cannot learn doomclaw. My blue mage can't beat Ironclaw. When will i have another chance to learn it?

Yes that means i beat Liquidflame. A black mage threw one "Frost rod" for a one-hit-KO

Shin Gouken
06-26-2007, 06:52 AM
I tried for doomclaw a few more times but eventually had to accept i wasn't going to learn it.

I opened almost every treasure chest during the escape (i think i just left the one behind actually, a fire ninja scroll near the exit) I started to panic when the mages started to cast confuse on me and my monk nearly KO'd himself so got out and saved.

Ancient library went OK. The enemies went down taher easily. I used a blackmage, held a Frost rod and cast Blizzarra 3times to beat Ifrit (barely surviving) Byblos felt a a few shattered Flame rods (again i barely survived... stoopid windslash)

Got the fire ship, went to crescent island, got my chocobo and new job abilities and bought one of each of the elemental bows. Then levelled in the area surrounding Ramuh gaining ABP for my hunter. Between Gold needles for the stone golems and an Aim attack for the black flames its reletively quick to level here. I got bored of leveling and decided to beat the Sandworm. Stood in the back row with a hunter and Ice bow and timed my attacks. I learned aquarake when i had the chance earlier but didn't fancy a one-hit-KO battle... i wanted ABP for my hunter and didn't want all my boss battles to be boring one-hit-KO ones. So sandworm fell to the Hunter. And now i return to leveling. I will need a hunter, bolt elemental bow and X-fight to beat Sol cannon later...

Great job, it seems you're making great progress. Make sure to pick up the Healing Staff and the Elven Mantle in Tycoon Castle, the former being a great healing aid and the latter being a great tool for evasion for lighter armor classes. Having low equipment weight really helps during some battles when every turn counts.

Shin Gouken
06-26-2007, 06:12 PM
The elven mantle is glued to my relic slot at the moment lol it really is a great relic. I only just picked up the healing staff... thanks for the reminder :greenie:

Ive been having some fun with it today.

Lets see where did i leave you... i was leveling my hunter. I still need 400 ability points until i learn X-fight lol but im leveling up for EXP and Gil too so three birds to one stone. Between leveling ive been off to fight bosses here and there....

Shiva died in three hits with my fire elemental bow. Her gaurds fell to one hit each.

Adamantaim took a few more hits with the Ice elemental bow and the elf cloak and back row formation kept me safe.

Ramuh i went crazy and charged in with a geomancer lol. It was close but i won on the first attempt (unless you count my even crazier attempt with a beserker lol) I don't remember the names of the attacks my Gaia attacks but there was a puny one which hit for 40-50dmg, a branch one hit for 400dmg and a better branch attack for over 1000dmg

Im on a very unimpressive level 33 which takes the awe out of challenge so far. But think of it this way... i wouldnt of struggled in the first half of the first world anyway and the extra levels wont help me dramatically come world two.

Oh! And don't forget to pick up a Doom Axe from those axe-wielding enemies on Crescent Island. It's the only way level 1 Galuf can defeat Gilgamesh.

Oh! And don't forget to pick up a Doom Axe from those axe-wielding enemies on Crescent Island. It's the only way level 1 Galuf can defeat Gilgamesh.

REALLY??? I have to level another character to fight Omniscient/Minotaurus anyway but i wanted to use Faris. Now i can leave Galuf alone and use Faris instead :greenie:

Are those axe wielding enemies Bio soldiers? Coz those guys are nasty... Bio inflicts 400+ damage

Shin Gouken
06-27-2007, 06:33 PM
Doom axe? Axe wielding enemies? no my friend they give battle axes. It's their friends wielding sickles that drop death sickles you mean. I found this out after an hour of fighting them. At first i thought you meant to steal from them so i eqquiped a thief with the thiefs glove and stole silver bows from them (stealing and fleeing without getting hit :P) I stole from 50 of them expecting it just to be a rare steal... then i actually killed one and it dropped a death sickle straight away! Not to worry though... those 50 silver bows sell for 750gil each! Im rich again :D

Todays big event though is Sol cannon and his mini-minions.

The rocket launching cannons went down easily as they cant actually kill me (or so i thought after i beat the first set) I stood in the back with a hunter using a bolt elemental bow.
For the flame cannons i wore a Flame ring and just attacked.
After, more rocket cannons beat me... this time they confused me! I hate confusion lol no physical attacker is safe
I got lucky after that... two more flame cannons which obviously went down easily.

Sol cannon was a tough oponent

After an initial hunter attemp... oops i mean "Ranger" lol i tried a ninja three times. Throwing ninja skills did great damage fast, but it steadily got worse because the side cannons "aged" me. Eventually Beam cannon killed me when i ran out of high potions.

From this i was going to try one of two thing...

Saving some Gil to buy an Angel ring to protect from aging which would have taken forever but i would of had it for the rest of the game and gained lots of ABP along the way

Or Buy a ton of bolt rods which i hoped would hit for more damage (the damage is halved when attacking multiple targets so after the side cannons were dealt with i hoped i was looking at higher damage)

I opted for the quicker choice of stocking up on bolt rods and tried a black mage. The rods indeed inflicted higher damage but it still wasnt enough to finish him before my high potions ran out. And the healing staff only heals 200-300hp back a turn and beam cannon hit for a perfect 570dmg so two turns at least to heal by which time i was being twatted again.

Then came the winning strategy... Time mage using bolt rods. Haste spell first, then Bolt rod the side cannons, then cast "slow" on Sol cannon and comftably heal and attack until he dies. lol got there eventually

Archeoavis killed my hunter. For some reason my Bows couldn't hit for more then 200-250dmg

I picked myself a ninja and charged in. This really was quite extraordinary. I used all five of my shurikens and killed him before he could land a single attack. Was this a glitch or what? He got revived and i stupidly threw a fire skill doing 0HP dmg. He used a fire attack and cured me (yay flame ring) a couple of dagger throws and physical attacks and he was toast

Shin Gouken
06-28-2007, 07:29 PM
For titan it was Hunter in the back row with the dark bow. Easy

Pyuroboros is another easily won battle... one-hit-KO with zeninage. Exept i didn't want another cheap win when i can do it without zeninage. I opted for a ninja and his scrolls. It left two alive who revived the others when they died. and in turn the revived lot then revived the two who i killed last. After a few revives they had no MP to revive and fell to my moonring one by one. Elf mantle saving me from many physicals

Kimabrain was a simple battle. My flame ring protected me from his ice attack (i hit him with my ice bow and healed him... whoops) Aquarake hit for 300dmg which i dont think was doubled by me wearing the flame ring.

Now.... what to do before i depart for world 2?

I am level 35 (about the same level as i was in my first single player challenge i think.) I have nearly 70,000gil (primarily i want this to zeninage Atamos and X-death, but i am also goin to spend much of this on elemental rods before i leave) My hunter has 225 of the 405ABP he needs for X-fight so i may master it before i leave

I am currently fighting very low level enemies to gain ABP quickly (1 or 2 per battle) and so as not to level anymore. I think im high enough for now. Im also picking up free tents occasionally (from tatou's and gatlings near walse town) I will buy my elemental rods, double check i have bought all available magic, steal some more silver bows for quick money (again avoiding leveling) and then i think i am ready. I wont level another character now if indeed galuf can beat gilgamesh at level one. Im guna use a seperate save file incase i forget anything though.

I'll make this a quick update because im goin out in a few mins. Ive still made a bit off progress but not as much as i have recently, been busy the last 2 days. (dvd charity launch gig last night was fookin awesome :D)

SO! I levelled against really low level monsters to gain ABP (loading times or should i say lack of, made this REALLY quick.) about an hour had my hunter mastered. I only bought ten of each elemental rod before departing. I ran into some hardcore enemies along the way though. Most nothen part of the map in the water were two enemies with about 4000HP each who windslash for 300+ damage  never seen them before. Got 3ABP no experience and 2000Gil for that :/

Anyway THANK YOU zeromus! Level 1 Galuf one-hit-KO'd Gilgamesh with the death sickle :D

Gilgamesh battle two was touch and go. Took about 6-7 "Rapid fire/barrage/Sshot/X-fight" (honestly choose a name and stick to it!) to kill him!!!

Used the last of my ninja scrolls in the moogly cave place and beat the boss Tirasaurus with a pheonix down to get ABP for my ninja. He beat my Ranger first attempt! Rapid fire with Fire bow, then ???? finished me !

Am in moogle village now. The true challenge probabley begins from gilgamesh batle 3 onwards.... so the easy part is almost over

I beat the abducter looking "boss" outside Bal castle. I had the dancing dagger and scored a swords dance against him.

Looted up in Kelb, buying some more ninja scrolls. I forgot how much ninja's rocked. The amount of pre-emptive strikes you get with one in your party is insane. I learned a couple of ninja abilities in on dragon mountain (Smoke and image)

Golem appeared much sooner then im used to him appearing and i still had my ninja. Every time i attacked, the dancing dagger made me steal MP or confused a target which doesn't stop the enemy attacking Golem in this battle. So Golem was killed and i started from the bottem of the mountain again. This time i switched for a Bard and sang Requiem twice to obtain him.

I switched to a summoner, used two ethers and charged in to fight dragon grass. I forgot to activate Golem so i knew the battle would be a close one. I summoned Titan (wearing the gaia robe) and it kills all the weeds and damages dragon grass. As soon as he summoned more, my Titan wiped them out again. Seven summons later and dragon grass was still standing. I broke my only Poisen rod (casting Bio) to finish him. BUT the weeds were still alive! First i was hit by paralysis. Then Blinded. Then aged, confused and stopped. At least i think thats right. With so many status bein hurled at me it got very confusing. They were only hitting for 40HP so i watched for many turns as i very slowly died... i was paralysed every turn so could not do a thing!

I came back with Golem and used two extra ethers. Summoned Golem and then cast Titan till he went KAPLOOEY

I am level 37 and i have 58,460 Gil

A quick visit to Bal (picking up a few items and gaining a few ABP in the dungeon for my ninja, Gold needles and first strikes :)) Went to ghidos (or whatever hes called) island to see it sink. The went to land my dragon on Xezats ship.

Gilgamesh! I attempted him with a knight with 2-handed, hitting him twice for around 1666HP a shot. Enkidu appears and quickly helps end the battle with windslash 350HP and Aera for 250+HP. I tried again with the same strategy hoping Enkidu wouldn't go so hardcore this time. I was right, Him and Gilgy spent a few turns using physicals which did little damage. Gilgy used a missile attack pinching 3 quarters of my HP!

I switched for a monk in hopes of finishing Gilgy before he could summon Enkidu. I got the series of attacks i was after... I used "Focus", Gilgy hit me for 70HP and i counter-attacked with a critical hit, then unleashed my two turns worth of attacks in one shot. Gilgy survived though and enkidu healed him up with Whitewind. Both used physical attacks the next turn and i countered them both, then attacked myself gaining another critical. Gilgy used Missile, takin 3 quarters of my HP and the elf cloak saved me from Enkidus next physical. My next attack finished Gilgy. Enkidu uses His windslash leaving me with 24HP!!! The elf coak saves my neck while i attack again. Then Enkidu uses Vampire... which should have healed me for 800HP because im wearing Bonemail, but it failed dammit!!! One more physical attack from me finishes Enkidu anyway :)

I didn't have very many Hi-potions left so couldn't fight many battles in the barrier tower. But I fought as many as it took to aquire a Reflect ring. I used a ninja and his ninja scrolls to quickly win battles. Ninja scrolls really do rock! I ran from all the Gigas's... i despise attacks which knock you instantly down to single digit HP!

Atamos was reletively easy... Because i used the same method to kill him as in my last solo player challenge. A samurai with Zeninage. It's the only way i can beat him. (can't learn level 5 Doom, and only have a few turns to inflict enough damage to kill him before being repeatedly pelted by comet) I used Zeninage twice, my reflect ring reflected a gravity spell (which missed him) i got another zeninage, he used comet, i used my fourth and final zeninage to finish him.

Catoblepas was easy peasy lemon squeeezy :D I used a dancer to be able to equip a ribbon. Elf cloak for random evasion, and Bonemail. Swords dance appeared a couple of times which was beautiful. His akumas eye auto misses thanks to ribbon. His drain attack heals me thanks to ribbon and his physicals mostly miss.

I have attempted Gilgame some twenty times but i just can't figure out a way to beat him. I can either go CRAZY with defense - Ninja, back row, two Main Gauche blades, elf cloak and Image.... im completley untouchable but cannot hurt him, attacks do zero damage, he absorbs ninja skills - Or sacrafice all defence just to be able to hurt him - Black mage, blizzaga or any class who can equip frost rods. I'll come back after Moore forest.

I ventured halfway into Moore forest killing enemies with Ninja scrolls... a complete waste because the game went flashy and froze! Will pick up tomorrow

Elderly tree gaurdian is goin down bitch! :mad2:

Shin Gouken

NOW THIS IS WHAT THIS CHALLENGE WAS ALL ABOUT!!!!!

Defeating the elderly tree gaurdian with a NINJA!!!!

It took a few attempts to pull of but after some tweaking it was an amazing strategy.

To begin with i made a Time mage, cast Float on myself, then switched back to Ninja. I equipped a main gauche (randomely evades physical attacks) in each hand, a diamond plate, and my Wall ring. I had Image as my ability.

Those gaurdians are fast little buggers arent they! They would attack 6times or more between them between my turns. The one in the back row only hit for 30-60HP, then the ones in the front ranged from 90-150HP depending whether they used a basic attack or a critical. I used a hi-potion every two turns to keep on top of the damage, unless i got lucky and blocked attacks with my gauches.

My first attempt i forgot to cast Float. My second attempt i used Fire scrolls to damage three of them. It takes about 7 or 8 to bring them down to the amount of health where they begin using their elemental skills (thats 16 or so turns with all the hi-potions for healing too) It was aqua rake that put an end to me, it hits for a lot of damage (i think it was 300-400 or more... i was busy dying at the time)
My Final attempt was switching which ninja scrolls i used. I instead used water scrolls to attack the other three gaurdians and leave the water elemental guardian alive. This only made it slightly easier tbh as the water elemental gaurdian is in the front row and hits for the most physical damage. It was still hugely tricky... When the three other gaurdians began using their elemental skills, they bounced off my reflect and often hit themselves healing them back enough HP to return to their physical attacks. It was mostly a case of persistence and wait them out. Eventually the Firaga reflected to hit the Wind elemental and the Aera reflected to hit the fire elemental and More water scrolls managed to finish them. The Earth elemental died first from reflected Firaga, then the Fire and Wind elementals next. With the water elemental i got a miracle!!! I switched for the dancing dagger and after two attacks i got Swords dance which hit for 3000+HP finishing him.

It was beautiful you should of seen it :D

X-death took my level 1 galuf a billion zillion million trillion brazilian turns :/ I broke rods in the end which still only reached 700HP dmg at most. Galuf has departed for the afterlife and ive saved....

... i will probabley level many levels now hoping it will make a difference to my Gilgame struggle. Im on level 41 at this point

The challenge has actually been incredabley easy until this point. With the elderly tree gaurdian being the only real challenge so far. I had some problems with Sol cannon but that was fairly easily dealt with. The last two days have been a constant struggle against bosses which have been frustratingly difficult.

I have fought Gilgame with almost every job class, trying everything i can. I finally won... and i am confident in saying this is my most spectacular battle i have ever fought!

I used a ninja :greenie: it's getting almost hard to believe how a ninja seems to be able to beat every boss giving me trouble :D
I beat him on my test run with this strategy, before i perfected it... but it doesn't count because i didn't cast float before the battle and his finishing move 'Earthquake' hit for 4000HP and killed me. But that battle took nearly three hours so i wanted to share that experience first, and then to go on to the improved strategy which had him beat in 45minutes.

I bought 10 shurikens as my way of damaging him. This cost 250,000GIL  but i didn't believe i had another choice. They hit for just under 800HP so that was 8000HP total damage if i survived long enough to use them all. At that point i didn't know how much HP he had. The strategy was simple... don't let him touch me! I had a Main gauche blade in each hand (randomely evades physical hits x2) the Elf mantle (randomely evades physical attacks) and Image (makes two illusionary copies to automatically evade two attacks) Between my two images and my three weapons which could all randomely evade physicals, he very rarely was able to touch me. After i made a successful attack on him (by successfull i mean causing damage) he would counter-attack twice. He is faster than me and can attack twice before me (unless i wait for his attack and attack immedietly after, in this case he gets one attack the next turn but will sneak in a second attack on the following turn) So after four attacks i would sometimes take a hit but simpley used a potion. After all my shurikens had gone i returned to causing 0HP damage with my weapons. I switched 1 main gauche blade for the dancing dagger and could hit him for 56HP  HOWEVER.... randomely dancing for the majority of turns was not helping.... mystery waltz, jitterbug and temp tango were all waste of turns... only swords dance was useful, turning my 56HP+0HP attacks into 500HP+300HP attacks. Swords dance came by every 20+ attempts but i fought on this way for nearly 3 hours. I made a discovery through this and returned for round two when earthquake killed me...

.... (actually i levelled a few levels, to level 45, then looted X-deaths casle and fought Gilgy before i came back. I wasn't able to obtain his genji armour like i planned but oh well)

.... Jitterbug is supposed to steal MP from the target, and mystery waltz is meant to steal HP. With Gilgame, it took 0HP FROM me and gave it TO him! SO.... he is undead! Pheonix downs and elixers don't do jack, but hi-potions are a garanteed 500HP per attack.... now i didn't have to wait 20 turns for a chance to damage him. And Hi-potions are considerabley cheaper than shurikens. I also discovered that the timing of casting 'Image' is crucial! If you have two images and cast it again, you won't receive another image. The most images you can have is three but with the ability 'Image', if it can't give you two, it will give you none. Therefor if you wait until you have just one image until you cast it, it will give you two more. This is crucial! If i wait until i have just one image (sometimes several turns as i block alot of his attacks with gauches/elf mantle) then immedietly cast 'Image', wait for his next attack (which must be blocked otherwise i wait for another image to go and re-cast image) then i have three images to protect me when he counters my attack... meaning i need to block just one of four hits. Thats garanteed with my gauches and elf mantle... and such i took no damage for the entire battle. Which as i said before took 45 minutes :greenie:

I tried a few strategies against carbuncle but with his Doom spell and erase, encircle or wahever attack it was (had an effect that looked like encircle) he could end a battle instantly at pretty much whatever random time he decides to cast it. So i cast Catoblepas (actually.... i cast Catoblepas, watched it fail, got twatted with fire and ice spells which didnt hurt because i anticipated this and wore a fire ring :p and cast Catoblepas again )

Gilgamesh is one ANNOYING little MONKEY!

He totally BOMBARDS you with a ton of status magic that is just impossible to endure. You can't reflect any of it, you cannot Silence him, you cannot mute his Pond song and mini song, Ribbons protect from Blind and frog is seems but everything else hits. By far the worst is having your level halved with Dischord, and being aged. A close second is being Stopped and/or paralysed which cost you 3 turns of pain. He is incredable fast and can strike twice for your every move. Your every attack must be using a specific item to cure a status problem Of course if you are Stopped or paralysed losing three turns, You are struck 6times!

I tried a knight with my new Ice sword in two hands... i managed one attack mid-onslaught (Missile had me confused and i killed myself). I tried Hunter in the back row using rapid fire with my new Bow.... again managed to sneak in an attack mid-onslaught. I tried a dancer... which seemed hopeful, i survived against Pond song and Flash without a problem, could heal a little HP back with the right dance, score large damage with Swords dance and pinch Gilgys HP (didnt help though) But he still fell rather quickly. I tried a white mage (beserk or confuse him) a black mage (Hold Fire rod, cast Firaga, actually reached 4000HP) The black mage strat worked actually. I got him to start gassin at me... but then he used Hurricane and immedietley hit with a physical to finish me. Finally, It was a time mage who won the day!!! After the Hurricane + physical i decided without haste it just wasn't going to happen. I cast haste on myself and then Slow on Gilgy :D yay i can attack four times in a row :D quickly!!!! shatter rods!!! :D he fell to my rod shattering woo

I tried a few things with X-death. The one to note was black mage + elemental rod because nearly hitting 4000HP (at least 3700HP) was a better alternative to Zeninage which was only hitting for 4300HP anyway. But at the end of the day, a mage just can't take those physicals. My Samurai on the other hand had an ice shield (40% evasion rate) and Main gauche. X-death could not land a single attack on me. Even with Zeninage, i couldn't beat him before Doom's 30 second counter killed me. After about 6 attempts he didn't cast Doom at the start of the battle and instead opened with a physical. That was when i chose to kill him ;)

Antlion in world three is dead. I'm outside the desert.... building up the courage to enter the pyramid :greenie:

It looks like this challenge is going well for you. Good job in getting this far!

Im as surprised as anyone to have made it this far :D

Some battles, like X-death for example i knew i would make it through. Others like Elderly tree gaurdian i knew could go either way. And then Gilgame i just never expected to beat at all.

The one battle im convinced i cannot win is Omega (how does one character survive a barrage of counter-attacks??? How can anyone survive encircle!!)

Anyway.... The pyramid was tough! I began with a ninja. This way i could use "smoke" to run from unessessary battles and fight just the forced battles. Howver, forced battles are everywhere!! The annoying little whitesnakes that paralyse, the mummies that attack in groups of three, and mechaheads who have a whole list of annoying attacks (beam cannon and missile of the worst!) Then there is a forced battle everytime you open a treasure chest which could just be a group of random enemies or it could be a dragon. My ninja barely copes with the dragon. He can't beat the mechaheads (1500HP ish for a ninja skill!)

But plan B helped majorly. I can't believe ive made it this far without using a Black mage but ah well he makes his worth here :D Everything in the pyramid has an elemental weakness. If i cast their weakness while holding the same element rod it hits for 8000HP-9000HP. Snakes, mummies and mechaheads go down in one shot. Dragons take two. All random counters take one (exept one type of enemy which occasionally take two for some reason) I wore the head item (hairpin i think) to reduce MP cost to zero. I learened up to Black5 in here :D gained a couple of levels yay picked up several dark matters, some elixers, crystal armour and other bits.

Mellusion (actually her name slightly changed but i can't remember what is was) was pretty simple. To begin with, her barrier change seemed to make her absorb everything :S (Black mage + elemental rod btw) But eventually when she used Ice attacks my bolt hit for over 8000HP and thats the only opening for attack i used. Three hits to take her. I absorbed her fire and was gaurded by her ice thanks to my flame ring... (come to think of it the reflect ring probabley would of worked better.... meh)

I looted up in mirage town. Hermes sandals and a thief knife actually i think was all i bought. Oh and the spells Quick and another one or two i think.

I shot off to fight bahamut. He beat a time mage and a ninja but these were two attempts after id already beaten him (i saved on a different file because i enjoyed the first battle and fancied some more :D) I used a Knight with 2-handed and excalibur and hit for well over 4000HP, hermes sandels made two attacks a turn. I was VERY lucky not to see his Megaflare, although i have over 3000HP and it hits for 2500HP-2800HP so i would have survived. I kept with continuous attacking ignoring his attacks mostly. All his attacks hit for around 700HP (Aquarake, poisen breath, zombiebreath and physicals) I got low on HP and used an elixer and carried on twatting him. I knew he wouldnt be too hard... i remember him being a total pansy in my last solo challenge.

Im not sure where im goin from here. I need to level a level 1 character to be able to fight Omniscient/minotauras. I can't find anywhere good to level... the windshrine seems to have disappeared. If i remember the pirates cave is minus the battles now. I could try jacohl cave but im weary of the skull eaters... they still fuck you up even now.

Yay my net is back :) lets see if i can remember the order i did all this in....

Located the windshrine... dunno why i didn't see it before. And found the pirate cave too :D i must of been flying around blind earlier lol. revived my party in the recovery spring in the pirates cave and killed bartz, krile and lenna leaving Faris alive so i could level her. I levelled to level 7 before having a quick thought to level her faster. I revived my party and then killed Faris, krile and lenna to dart off to Bal basement with Bartz. Odin took two Catoblepas summons to finish. I then rode my chocobo round the world for the Mirage vest and back round to get my magic lamp. I put hermes sandels on Faris and used the lamp (bahamut and leviathan a bit :skull::skull::skull::skull: at level 7) toget Odin out and Killed some higher level enemies to jump 5levels. I did this right next to the waterfall so i could refresh my lamp and go again. I did this till faris was in her 20's. The i made her a summoner, equipped the gold hairpin (1/2MP cost) and used Odin for more quick kills and easy levelling (in a desert near the desert surrounded by mountains) Got her to level 38 rather quickly and was satisfied.

I thought this meant i was ready for Fork tower... but i thought Fork tower had to be completed before the second lithograph.... Ooops. So i headed for the second lithograph first (after switching back to Bartz) Gargoyles i killed same as before, Ninja and Bolt elemental scrolls. I fought some battles, mainly those where i got first strike but also the harpy type creature coz they are worth 8ABP. Theres a bird in there (looks like zu... Tota something or other) that must have 20,000HP and then some... damn bird cost me an elixer  Ninja type boss in a chest cost me several high potions.... fook knows how much HP he had! And Prototype, (Omega wannabe) killed my ninja luckily right after i saved. Scrolls only hit for 300HP :S Came back with a black mage, bolt rod + thundaga had him KO'd with 8200HP dmg :D that'll learn you not to be Omega and fook with me :D

Stalker/stoker (i always forget to look at their name :rolleyes2 )

Pretty easy. Knight, Excalibur in two hands, 5000+HP a hit. First hit for free. Mind blast and Blaze werent too nasty. I guessed which one to hit and even with a dozen wrong guesses it wasn't difficult, i scored some lucky hits. Hurricane is the only bitch. Had to waste an elixer after being hit by it.

Now for the fun ^_^

Minotaur you big wuss hit me if you can :D

I had a ninja with Image as my ability. Mirage vest, Elven mantle and Sasuke's Katana (legendary weapon, same affect as Main gauche but decent attack power) I kept my images constant and didnt really need the elven mantle. He didn't land an attack on me. Sasuke's Katana and Rising sun (found in lithograph two dungeon) inflicted almost exactly 2000HP a turn. Didn't take long. (had to beat him twice though.... after i beat him and it switched to Faris, i went into the menu to equip her, when i came out of the menu i blew up  )

Omniscient you big wuss hit me if you can :D

I made Faris a summoner. Hermes shoes for the first strike and instant haste. Gold hairpin for 1/2 MP cost. Wonder wand for a bit of extra magic power and black robe. I cast Carbuncle immedietly and Omniscient just had all his attacks reflected (slow, blizzara, Firaga, Blizzaga) I recast it when a gravity spell hit me... oops i forgot it only lasts so many turns. He also cast haste and regan on himself. I cast Odin everyturn. I used an elixer as soon as MP hit too low to summon and he hit himself with blizzara, the tried to flare me which hit himself... wasted elixer  ah well he got hit by Flare hehehehe

Two lithographs to go and then to the X-zone :D

Nergied, Triton and Phobos i simply Zantestukened.

Leviathan took me a second try. Black mage holding thundar elemental rod and casting Thundaga hit for 8500HP (even reached 9900HP!!) But a double tidal wave and double physicals killed me fast. I went back in with a mystic knight, started with Drain on my blade as a way to heal and attack simultaneously but quickly put thundaga on for 5700HP damage a shot. It was the Aegis shield that won me the battle!! It blocks physicals often AND blocks magic attacks including Tidal wave. Scored an elixer off him too using the thiefs dagger and mugging him.

I already looted the first half of the cleft of dimension... up to the first boss who has killed me twice now. I tried with a knight with excalibur in two hands.... knowing this boss was magic based i thought physicals might do the trick. But not only was 2000HP the max dmg i could inflict but i was aged and eventually 30HP was all i could hit for. I tried with a summoner and summoned Odin. Only 1400 ish dmg. I put up reflect immedietly with carbuncle but this boss is smart.... she cast protect on me as soon as i cast it. And old buggered me up again too

I havn't attempted my 3rd go yet but this time she will go down. A summoner again but this time a gold hairpin because i needed an alixer halfway through the previous attempt. The angel robe to protect from aging. And i tried a leviathan near the end of my last attempt and hit for over 2000HP so that will most definitly do the trick i think.

Shin Gouken
07-08-2007, 10:43 AM
That strat in the previous post did the trick. All too easily. Leviathan hit for 2500HP dmg on average. I didn't cast carbuncle this time, she cast reflect on me first turn, then cast reflect on herself. The reflect a protect spell off me to herself. She attempted poisen but it failed. By that time she was dead. I didn't take a hit.

Apanda was a little disapointing  I expected to lose against him first time. These last couple of bosses are really lacking in HP i think. I tried first with a white mage, expecting to need esuna, curaga and dispel, as well as a sage staff assisted Holy. I cured from bein turned into a toad, took a physical, and a windslash. I think there was something else too but i did it last night and don't remember. Dischord hit later in the battle and it didn't have much time to affect me. This worked so i didn't get to try my Knight with Ecalibur (Holy attributed) held in two hands. That probably would have killed him twice as fast.

Obviously i skipped Omega..... for now! I headed back before Omega to save. I'm goin to press forward and try to take azulmagia next (his name has probabley changed i dont know what to) And open that save point. But because of the first cleft of dimension boss being un-cooperative i havn't looted the first half of the cleft of dimension yet. I'll probabley do that after azulmagia and before the next set of bosses

*sigh* :( i'm upset. The enemies keep picking on me :(

First a catoblepas enemy turned me to stone  That i can accept as my fault

But ffs i attacked a hydra lookin enemy (green, several heads, in the ronka ruin looking path in the cleft of dimension) and wtf  i was using the dagger which sometimes inflicts instant death.... it reflected!!!! and killed me!!!! Bloody enemies

so no progress as i keep being killed.

Things are going too smoothly its scary. I am level 49... the same level i was when i completed my solo player challenge. With a solo player, solo class challenge you would expect a higher level. Well... for Omega and shinryu i will be level 97 :P

Azulmagia was nice and quick. I used a Mystic knight and cast Bio (his weakness) on an enchanter sword. It hit for between 7000HP - 8000HP. I prepared my magic lamp to summon carbuncle when used so i could activate reflect status as soon as the battle began. Hermes sandles and an ever so useful Aegis shield helped.

Catastrophe i took the easy route.... cast float before the battle (actually, my float status is still active from the lithograph under the sea) and wore a reflect ring so catastrophe was rendered helpless. I used a knight with excalibur in 2-hands for 3000HP a turn and hacked away.

Btw i looted the rest of the cleft of dimension and headed back into the real world, stocked up on a few more ninja skills and refreshed my magic lamp. Then stormed back in fleeing from the battles i encountered in order to get to Azulmagia and beat him opening up my save point.

Halcyanos and alta roit/jura avis next. Plus looting the castle. Then Twin tania. Not sure how difficult these battles will be

Shin Gouken

Wounded.... Halicarnassis or whetever he's called now (Halycanos) didn't put up a fight at all.

I turned myself into a toad. With my first strike (Hermes sandels woo) i used the magic lamp to summon Golem. Halcyanos the used "Ribbit" turning back to me :D then i repeatedly used Holy (with Sage staff assistance) while he repeatedly used physicals for 300-400HP dmg. He did use "reverse polarity" to pull me into the front row but that was a waste of time because i killed him shortly after  at least i can be sure of a challenge from shinryu and X-death, maybe Necrophobe. Twin Tania next.... might take a few tries

Alta roit/Jura avis you annoying little cretins <_<

If you don't finish Alta roit in the first turn he has a very high chance of using encircle.... several times that's happened. And in his Jura avis form he uses Mealstrom which would force me to use an elixer <_<

I took one out with a hunter and rapid fired. Got lucky not to see encircle. I got his with Mealstrom but i ignored it and carried on with rapid fire, luckily killing him before he could attack again.

Took the second one with a summoner. Alta roit to a couple of Odin summons and a leviathan, and Jura avis felt zanetsuken.

And ive taken a 3rd with a white mage. Casting Holy twice on alta roit and took just physicals off jura avis so Holy'd him till he died.

Just three more to go :eep:

Edit: Hunter and summonerx2 again for the others.

I can't believe i forgot my legendary weapons :/ im not sure if i'll have to go back for them

Shin Gouken
07-08-2007, 07:41 PM
Twin tania put up a fight but that wasn't unexpected.

First i accidently walked into him with ninja and lasted a couple of turns :/

Then i came back with a Knight equipped with excalibur, an ice shield and the coral ring. Absorbing blizzard and Tidal wave was fun :D and atomic ray doing 0dmg was fun too. Windslash was minute damage and physicals were about 350dmg not too bad. But i couldn't kill him before Gigaflare and 3000HP dmg is game over. I wanted to use a Dragoon with the holy lance as a way to avoid Gigaflare... but i left my Holy lance back outside the cleft of dimension and although i can teleport out, i couldn't be arsed with the trek back....

SO! I came back with next to no defense or protection and pure offense in mind. Ecalibur in two hands and Hermes sandals for first strike and auto haste. I had to use an elixer half way for the amount of dmg i was taking. But 9999HP dmg a turn with excalibur in two hands had him beat in 6 turns.

Question now is.... do i take necrophobe now (as if i could) or begin the extreme task of leveling in preperation for Shinryu? I will have a stab at Omega too but i wouldn't expect any miracles ;) X-death probabley wouldnt need a level 97 character (maybe??) but i'm not attempting him as i am. Besides i want him as the final boss so shinryu and Omega first. I will probs level as much as i can with the tents and cottages i have, then return to stock up on them and grab my legendarys.... then decide what next from there

Shin Gouken

I levelled to 56 and fought yojimbo after yojimbo to get me a strat (or whatever they're called now) was disapointed by it tbh i remembered them being considerabley better.

Necrophobe handed my ass to me a number of times before i gained those 7 extra levels. His barriers all cast Flare in succesion, bouncing it off their reflect status to bypass mine (if i had it) so i just had to find a way to either kill them before they got a turn, or find a way to survive four consecutive flares. They hit for very slightly over 1000HP so id need 4000HP and no class gets that much of a boost. A white mage can cast shell but a white mage suffers a huge loss of HP. I couldn't find a way to protect from the damage/survive Flare and attack sufficiently at the same time. Until i tried a samurai with zeninage and the Aegis shield. The aegis shiled Blocked two Holy spells (but not flares.... not sure if it can block them or not but they both hit) Three zeninage attacks and they went down. Zeninage only hit for just over 1000HP on necrophobe which was going to mean a long battle. Vacwave is nasty at nearly 2000HP and is usually followed by another attack for 1000HP. An elixer sorts that problem. The Aegis shiled blocked a few attacks and with the use of elixers i thought id beat him..... until he cast Doom

So then i gained those levels and obtained a strato and went in for another bash. An extra 1000HP on top of my zeninage damage meant i killed the barriers before they could attack (bout 5700HP) My strato just managed 1000HP so i tried zeninage on him and got 2300HP so stuck with that. I used a handful of elixers and was lucky not to see Doom again and had Gilgy show up (god i fuckin love him :D) I switched for the thief knife and attacked gilgy to score a Mug and got his Genji armour after two mugs.

So.... level 56 and just Omega, shinryu and X-death to go. Dont hold your breath with Omega but watch this space for shinryu... he is going DOWN :D no idea what to do with X-death. I wouldnt be surprised if level 97 zeninage repeatedly does the trick. id be happy with that ^_^

lots of leveling to do now.... Bartz gets everyones EXP so may not take TOO long lol

I mastered a ninja in jacohl cave using ninja skills (he was most of the way there tbh) manged to grab one elixer <_<

I mastered a monk fighting birds which are a pallet swap of zu, in a small lake... above karnak i believe. 8ABP per battle, two hits to kill them, used alot of hi-potions (had to take one hit per battle which was usually a windslash for 1800HP)

Mastered a mystic knight. He had a few ABP from leviathan and azulmagia, got 300ABP from pheonix tower and used a forest fighting quick battles for 4ABP a battle to finish him off

Pheonix tower was HARD! You can't run from battles in there and have mini-bosses on most floors. Kuzar beast uses ???? everyturn and has 8000HP at least (how do i survive that!!! I can't) i managed to learn the pattern to make it to the top. I used a Dancer for the random battles! I think its the only class that can equip man-eater  i didnt check all the classes but most of them. Anyway man eater for 4000HP one-hit-killed all the enemies and Ribbon protected me from all their annoying status attacks :)

Have been levelling against Iron giants etc in the cleft of dimension. It generally goes quite smoothly exept for the last half hour where ive suffered several back attacks and been killed by Doom. Quite annoying i must say  Leviathan clears all enemies i encounter apart from Iron giants which feel zantetsuken

Im level 75 :) Have mastered the only classes i think i need so just need to level and then go on an elixer hunt, hopefully finding at least one dragon lance along the way

SHINRYU GO DOWN BITCH! SHINRYU GO DOWN AND STAY DOWN!!!!!

Shinryu is the sole reason i took this challenge. Challenging him was the goal! (although obviously i will attempt omega and challenge X-death too lol) It's fair to say im pretty ecstatic at this moment.

For this battle i decided to make notes showing EXACTLY everything that happened.

First i should mention that the Monks counter attack ability on my Freelancer was a waste... i didn't use it once. Also to note i should of known that the flame shield would not block blizzard unlike the flame ring but i stuck with it anyway. And if you're wondering where those images keep coming from, the Mirage vest refreshes your image whenever you change a held weapon.

Shinryu can't take anymore and dies :D

I know there was alot of luck in this battle. That a successful mealstrom was'nt followed by another attack. I have no idea why Roullette didn't work.... everytime he used it nothing at all happened.

Well that's that :D Omega i will attempt but to be completley honest i know i'd be wasting my time. Just X-death and Neo X-death standing in my way then

Awesome, great job on achieving your goal! :D Omega should be a pushover if you're using a Freelancer.

Shin Gouken
07-13-2007, 07:04 AM
Omega is impossible

If you begin the battle with hermes sandels (the only way to get haste for alot of classes) he still gets first attack and opens with Blaster to kill you instantly

If you wear a Wall ring you have to figure out a way to haste because your doomed without it. That leaves just a Time mage and Chemist, neither of which stand much ground against him.

A ninja can get first strike then use the magic lamp for carbuncle, but Fuma shurikens for only 2000 HP dmg woah mann

Then there is his counter attacks  Encircle.... nuff said. Missiles and Mustard bombs inflict gravity damage so who cares about how much HP or defense you have!

Also his beam cannon causes lasting drain damage.... if your hit with Mealstrom your HP drains to 0HP before you can do a thing. Effectively, Mealstrom is an instant death attack which can't be defended against with reflect/bonemail/ribbon etc

There are two things i can think of left to try. How much MP does he have, and how many elixers/turns would it take to wait him out? Or try zapping his MP if i can. Otherwise, i know he can have the Stop status inflicted on him which can remove his ability to counter attack. Question is, how do you stop him? The spell Stop failed several times when i cast it. Is there a Mix combo or Blue magic spell or something.

My last hope for victory lies with a Time mage. Haste on self, heal for 20 turns until an opening to attack arises again.... cast Regan to hopefully counter his Beam cannon - Mealstrom combo. And cast Stop before using Bolt rods. Even if that could work i will need 99elixers, to max my level and master all my jobs.

I can't remember the name of the Mix, I think it was Dragon Force or Dragon Defense, but it makes your character a 'boss' type monster and they become immune to instant kills. It can defend against Encircle as well (which is like the cheapest enemy attack in the game...).

If you are restricting the classes to their native abilities, then I could see how this would be a problem. :( I think the Chemist is the best way to go, since they are the most powerful class in the game. Use Gamefaqs and come up with some good Mixes!

The chemist has indeed managed to survive the most turns against Omega but it makes no difference. No ammount of Def increases or element resists you put on your character, Gravity magic just can't be survived.

I wear the Reflect ring, and sometimes i get lucky and reflect his first attack. Then immedietly consume the speed shake for haste effect. Then wave cannon is used by Omega for a few turns and i mix an X-potion to heal every turn. As soon as he uses an attack which reflects (Atomic ray, Blaster and Delta attack) or an earthquake (which misses with float cast before the battle) i have an opening to Mix.

Dragon power raises my level by 20 levels (man i bet if i was level 99 and used that then goblin punch that'd hurt him :D)

Dragon shield resists elements (just bolt, ice and fire i think)

Dragon armour raises your Def and Mag Def

Life shield prevents instant death attacks BUT Mealstrom is STILL instant death! it leaves you with 1-9 HP which drains in just a second. Even regan cast with my time mage didn't counter it... you still have to wait for your turn to get HP back.

A chemists attacks (with plus 20 levels) aren't anything spectacular. Shadowflare only hit for a little over 1000 HP. Dragon breath healed him 6000 HP. And Dark breath was that bit better hitting for 3224 HP.

My Ranger with the chicken knife can hit for just over 15000 HP with Rapid fire.... I could try that a few hundred times until i get lucky enough not to see encircle or survive those counters

Its impossible to survive those counter attacks though. Even if you dont see encircle! Missiles take half your HP... two of them means the Mustard bomb kills you. If he uses his mustard bomb first and then uses his Missiles, you are left confused and kill yourself. Only two classes can survive confusion from what i can see but both cannot touch omega. Knight and Mystic knight can wear Genji armour which protects from confusion. But they are either without haste or reflect. and omegas evasion makes him almost completley untouchable.

Also ive noticed.... physical attacks inflict o HP dmg regardless of how strong they are. Chicken knife hits for 0 HP if used normally or with the jump command. But hits for 3800 HP with each hit with Rapid fire. Legendary weapons are all that can hurt him i think.

Im not giving up yet. I'm wont give up until im absolutley certain he can't be done. I'm hoping i've overlooked something or will get a brainwave and discover something ive missed etc. Or just hope to get incredabley lucky

oooooo you can mix something which HALVES Omegas defense

Too bad that means when his Delta attack reflects it actually inflicts a little bit of damage and the cheeky :skull::skull::skull::skull: will counter attack me even though he hit himself

I tried a number of ways to Zap his MP using Mix which all failed.

I am seriously struggling here. What i need is a way to use haste and reflect, wear the genji armour, and be able to inflict as much damage as possible in as few turns as possible. There is no such combination.

I did contemplate using a chemist to halve his defense and then mix reincarnation to revive another character. Then immedietly kill the chemist and continue battling with a ranger with rapid fire. And although this isnt technically against the rules (read the first post) i still feel like its bending them

Also how do you aquire the cannoneer and necromancer etc. I shouldnt be using them really, but if it makes him possible i would be prepared to do that.

If worst comes to worst i will beserk him :( I know nobody wants that but i just cant go defeat X-death while he still lives :( anymore ideas or suggestions are welcome

You get the GBA exclusive jobs by going to the whirlpool that opened up south of the Mirage Village. The Necromancer you get after defeating a certain bonus boss, though.

EnigmaGamer posted these little strategies:

He has a 95% Evasion rate, so you'll need to use stuff that ignores evasion.(Rapid Fire, him being Under the Stop status)

And to avoid being confused/encircled/mustard bombed, you have to be under Reflect then wait for him to Reflect Search off of you then attack. A Reflected Search will make his counters go to him instead of your party until his next turn.

Also, Mix Dragon Fang and Maiden's Kiss to be immune to Maelstorm. All of his attacks except for Wave Cannon have countermeasures.

And Wave Cannon only deals 50% of your maximum HP, if I remember correctly. I don't believe it can kill you at maximum HP. Keep trying, I know you can do it!

i just learned how to make his counters hit himself by watching a level one frog beat him on youtube  but thank you... that will be the key to beating him!

also i found out how you can completley disable his encircle and mealstrom entirely. The mixing chart on gamefaqs notes a mix called "dragons kiss" but it says "???" under affect. During the level one frog battle i noticed him use this on Omega. After some test runs it appears he never uses them  i don't know quite how the Mix works exactly but it definitly prevents him from using both encircle and mealstrom.

That gives me the tools i need to beat him so will plan a strategy

Also little notes i discovered. Apollos harp seems to hit with perfect accuracy. And using Masamune as an item casts haste. Cant believe i didnt know that

There are still a few things that need tweaking in my strat but things are looking very hopeful.

Dark breath was inflicting 3224 HP dmg in my previous runs.... now it is hitting for less than 50 HP :s Which means im solely relying on Dark flare for damage. It only inflicts 1000 HP ish but if i get lucky Omega uses a mustard bomb on himself for another 1000 HP.

BUT i attempted another Dark breath when i only had one dark matter left, and it hit for over 7000 HP dmg. Im REALLY confused. Is the damage for this mix random???

Anyway i need to stock up on dragon fangs, Dark matters, potions and ethers for this battle. Potions and ethers mix to create an X-potion (prefered over elixers... i may need them for X-death) I have ten of each dragon fangs and Dark matters which is ten hits.... but i need dragon fangs for dragons kiss and dragon armour too.

I can find dragon fangs, buy potions and ethers, but what about dark matters? Is there even a replenishable supply in the game?

Zombie dragon.... steal elixers.... drop dragon fangs :D thank you gamefaqs :D

Ah, yep, that would be EnigmaGamer's video. xD

The Dragon's Kiss makes the target a 'dragon' type enemy, but I'm not sure how that prevents Encircle either. I'll try to check out those videos and see if there's an explanation.

I asked him. He said he uses it on Omega to make him a dragon so that his Harp would inflict more damage. He uses it on himself to make Omegas missiles, mealstrom and encircle all fail

It's an amazing Mix. With it ive been able to survive a full 30minutes against Omega.

My main problem is, he can heal himself with Atomic ray which reflects off me. And after a search attack he hits himself with burn ray healing again. I attempted using Dragon shield in hope of making fire do 0HP dmg instead of healing him but it didnt work. I just have to keep the damage coming as much as i can

Ive been hunting Dark matters and turtle shells all day and now have 99 of each. As well as 99 maidens kisses, 99 potions and 99 ethers.

What im going to do now (about to try again) is to use split shell on him 6-7 times to dramatically reduce his defense. This doesn't allow Dark flare to inflict anymore damage but the drain attack (maidens kiss + turtle shell) can increase to do more damage than shadow flare as well as heal me. Also i can gain an extra 500 HP on him whenever he reflects Delta attack on himself. It forces him to counter but i can survive a mustard bomb and wave cannon so i just have to wait until he attacks before i do. Wish me luck.... im hoping this will be my last attempt :D

so if you had a bunch of those dragon lances and used it you could own any monster that succumbed to dragon kiss?

Shin Gouken

ladies and gentlemen.....

OMEGA HAS JUST BEEN SLAIN BY A SINGLE CHARACTER AS A CHEMIST!!!

I can't believe it myself :D I used almost 50 ethers and potions, 30 maidens kisses, 40 turtle shells, and 12 dark matters. Plus some antidotes, dragon fangs a speed shake and a giant drink :)

His first attack is always a reflectable one giving me a chance to use a speed shake. The when he uses beam cannon (always his second attack) I use a giant drink to give me double HP which also heals me a few thousand. His next attack is usually a reflectable one, or earthquake or rainbow wind, and i cast Dragon kiss to make myself immune to maelstrom, missile and encircle. Beam cannon appears once every other turn so every other turn i mix an X-potion. Occasionally he will use beam cannon twice in a row so i just x-potion again. between beam cannons i get up Dragon shield (resist elements), Dragon power (raise level by 20) and start using Split shell which reduces his defense by half.... i cast this at least ten times.

there appears to be an exact pattern for his attacks.... something like:

Delta/blaster
Beam cannon
atomic ray/burn ray/rainbow wind/mealstrom/earthquake
Beam cannon
atomic ray/burn ray/rainbow wind/mealstrom/earthquake
Beam cannon
Delta/blaster
Beam cannon
Beam cannon
Search
Atomic ray/burn ray/rainbow wind/maelstrom/earthquake
Beam cannon

Its safe to attack him at any point exept when he has the chance to cast Delta attack. He inflicts upto 500 HP on himself and counters you afterwards. If you receive a mustard bomb from attacking him, and then another mustard bomb from attacking himself, there is a high chance Beam cannon will finish you.... i learned the hard way :P

Basically i healed when beam cannon was used, and always waited for him to attack first to make sure Delta was not used. If Delta was used that didnt always mean a mustard bomb followed so attacked a few times there too. I started with Dark flares but the drain type mix (turtle shell + maidens kiss) inflicted more damage so switched to that.

It was difficult because one wrong move meant game over. If i attack when im not full HP i get killed. But most of his attacks couldnt hurt me. Only mustard bomb and beam cannon were the deadly ones. The hardest part was trying to inflict the damage as fast as possible because otherwise he heals himself.

Zeromus i really want to thank you for your help. I wouldn't have beaten him without you. And also thanks to enigma gamer who gave me the key to this battle. Without him it would not have been possible.

So really i can take credit for 33.3% of this battle and the rest goes to zeromus and eigma gamer :D haha thanks guys

Heheh, no problem. :D I like when people try doing these things. Now go slay Exdeath! I think a Mystic Knight would make the battle easier since one of his pieces is vulnerable to Break. But he should be cake compared to Omega and Shinryu.

so if you had a bunch of those dragon lances and used it you could own any monster that succumbed to dragon kiss?

I believe that would work.

Shin Gouken

i will try X-death tomorrow lol

I don't think a mystic knight will work. He has to waste a turn casting his spell first

At the moment i think a samurai with the aegis shield and winged shoes using zeninage. The mirage vest constantly refreshed by switching from masamune to strato will probabley be a life saver against vacwave

or a chemist again. i wonder if dragon status would help survive alot of the affects of grandcross?

either way im sure he won't be as difficult as omega :D refreshing my magic lamp will help

Shin Gouken

And the deafeat of X-death concludes my challenge :D

he was a joke... i was over levelled. I should have defeated him before shinryu and omega really but nevermind. A bit of an anti-climactic end to an otherwise fantastic challenge

I used a samurai. Wore a fire ring incase i saw firaga or blizzaga but i didnt. Used masamune for haste. Then zeninage repeatedly. Aegis shield blocked a number of physical attacks including one vacwave and one algemiest (or w/e) Took a couple of physical hits damage and one flare. If id of used my magic lamp which was set up for carbuncle and golem then he wouldnt have touched me. I did this practically in my sleep.... was 7am which is far far too early for me :D

I really hope people enjoyed following this challenge as much as i did playing it. It truly was very enjoyable

Im going to level a whole party now and play with the new job classes and see what some of the new bosses are about :)
