media player classic is probably a way you might consider going

I actually quite like the Windows Media Player 11. It takes time getting used to though.

What's wrong with winamp?

For videos, I use either Media Player Classic, or Windows Media Player 11.

Some people like Foobar2000 (http://www.foobar2000.org/)for audio.

I'm just using Windows Media Player 11 because I can link the hardware buttons, on my laptop, with it. I can change songs while playing Battlefield without having to exit to the desktop. I primarily switched when I was playing FFXI. I'll leave the guessing to you.

Winamp supports hardware buttons too, and the FFXI problem would be easily fixed with the windower.

Does it? They seem to work on firmware and the only thing they've supported was Windows Media Player.

I didn't play FFXI long enough to find that out though.:p

In Windows, foobar2000 can't be beat for audio. I don't really play video on Windows, but I would use Media Player Classic if I did. :p

In Linux, it's Amarok for audio; VLC for video, hands down.
