Coke coke and more coke. I drink it constantly at work 'cos it keeps me going and it's free. I'm a super laxed out person most of the time so I need lots of sugar/caffeine to keep me going.

Mirage

Regardless of how much coke you drink, it is retarded to use "coke" as a generic term for carbonated beverages.

Example:

"What kind of soda would you like?"
"I'd like a Mountain Dew."

"What kind of coke would you like?"
"I'd like a Fanta."

If you can't see how using "coke" as a generic term for carbonated beverages is stupid, you need to get your brain checked.

I rather enjoy calling it tonic, but that shares a name much as Coke does, so it's not quite useful or logical to do so. Thus, I call it soda, as it ought to be called.

Coke or 7up only please.

Since when did soda=coke???

Coke is Coke. Soda is american for anything fizzy. Pop is retard for alcohol (I think).

So I'd go with other. The drink is named by it's name, basically.

Coke is Coke, lemonade is lemonade, fanta is fanta, beer is beer, etcetera

Avarice-ness

SODA!

Pop is for backwoods, uneducated hicks.

"Coke" is a term for Southern backwoods hicks who do not understand that there are other types of sodas. But it's better than "pop."

Soda is the correct term.

Coke is my favorite carbonated beverage, but unless it is Coke I call it soda (or by it's given name. Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, etc).

How does that work? Soda is an abbreviation of soda pop. AS IS POP.

I'm sorry if what I grow up speaking is too Mentally Handicapped for your tastes, Mirage, but it's just as valid a thing to say as anything else.

People define their language by speaking it, and it's pretty childish to call their dialect retarded.

Mirage
06-13-2007, 12:27 AM
Not dialect, choice of words :D. The thing is just that "coke" has a different commonly accepted meaning, that being a black drink from usually either Coca Cola or Pepsi :p

And you know I still heart you (I hope :o).

Soda is anything that's carbonated.
"Pop" is a slang term that came into being because of the popping sound from opening the containers.
They're both shortened versions of the phrase "soda pop."
"Coke" is red-neck talk, unless you're actually talking about either Coca-Cola or cocaine.
I don't know about all of you guys, but I personally call it "other."

You wouldn't say I want some fanta coke would you? that just sounds stupid. I'd like some fanta soda is sooooo much better. I hate pop used like this ( i just think it sounds stupid imo) but I feel pop is better than calling it coke.

does everyone even know the story behind why coke became the common term for it? the plague known as brand marketing at its finest. I mean, most everyone calls facial tissue Kleenex. Also , in the middle north here (of America) it is rather interchangeable, but most say pop. You can really use either or here.

Coke is Coke. Soda is american for anything fizzy. Pop is retard for alcohol (I think).
Pop is midwestern US slang for carbonated drinks.

does everyone even know the story behind why coke became the common term for it?
The Coca Cola bottling company was founded in Atlanta, Georgia, which is very much in the south of the US. Being such a southern marketing power house, they came to dominate the market (more or less) and making their product name unanimous with the types of drinks they create.

Being a northern boy staying in the south right now, I'm finding it hard to adjust to the fact that everyone everywhere always is serving coke always. I'm more of a Pepsi fan.
