Ok, I did not find this out on my own. I found it out on a guide but I cant remember where it was.

Everyone knows that there are different chain levels. The bag is level 0, the blue coin is level 1, the gold coin is level 2, and the larger gold coin is level 3. I'm not sure how many people know this or if it was already posted, but i just wanted to say this.

When you kill a monster of the same type, your battle chain goes up. After your battle chain goes up enough, you will level up a chain. Heres where the tip comes in. When you kill same type monsters, an invisible counter also goes up one, but when you pick up loot, it goes down one. Lets say you kill three monsters. you have 3 points, but the third monster drops loot. if you pick it up, your counter goes down to 2, but if you leave it, the counter stays at 3. Anywhere between 6 and 10 points from your last chain level up, or from the beginning, you will level up a chain. I have proved this myself, so its not just a myth. I hope I helped someone, but if its been said, be easy on me.:p

You can pick the loot bags if the Chain number is _flashing_ though. there's 5% chance the a kill will trigger a flashing Chain number and there's 60% chance after each kill that the Chain number will keep flashing.

I just found out this too myself a little while ago and it definately works

What's so good about leveling up a chain if you can't pick up good loot ?

Higher chain means more rare loot as I remember.

more rare loot, and more of the common loot at one time

hmmmm... never thought of that one... but when i think of chaining, i usually do 450+ chain and i usually get a loot bag every 9-10 monsters, therefore, 450/9=50 ; 450-50=400 so i end up with a 400 level chain and i always get the giant gold coin... is it just me or do those coins give certain buffs and heals...

Blue coins can inflict heal. You get small amount of hp back to all characters in range. Like from 1 to 600 hp. Gold coins give same amount of hp and sometimes protect or shell. Big gold coins may give shell or protect to all chars in range and can restore up to 1200 hp.

small gold coins can give shell or protect, and big gold coins have a much better chance.

The chain rises quicker if you dont pick up any of the tokens dropped by enemys, you can actully get to chain level 4 (Big gold token) in as little as 30 kills and the additional effects are as follows:

Chain level 2:
There is a 10% chance 10% of your max HP will be restored
There is a 10% chance 10% of your max MP will be restored

Chain level 3:
There is a 20% chance 10% of your max HP will be restored
There is a 20% chance 10% of your max MP will be restored
There is a 5% chance the party leader will recive Protect
There is a 5% chance the party leader will recive shell

Chain level 4:
There is a 25% chance 10% of your max HP will be restored
There is a 25% chance 10% of your max MP will be restored
There is a 5% chance the whole party will recive Protect
There is a 5% chance the whole party will recive shell

The loot drop chart is as follows:

Chain level 1:
Very common loot: 40%
Common loot: 25%
Rare loot: 3%
Very Rare loot: 1%

Chain level 2:
VCL: 45%
CL: 30%
RL: 6%
VRL: 2%
