In the end it's all up to you Bertie. You should check out Sword of the New World's beta that's currently going on. Graphics are amazing, and I really like the interface and controls -- but I haven't played enough to get into the combat system.

Anyways. Tarutaru's are a good incentive to play, but if you don't like them, then I don't know what you've got. :D

Looking at it from a point of view.

it would take a bit of effort to transfer every single thing your character has and put all of those things onto another server.

you can however choose where to create your character for free.

New expansion in Winter 'Wings of a Goddes', involving time travel of some form and new spells for every job (that's all I know). Also, the game has so much content you'll never be out of things to do, FFXI is eternal! ETERRRNAL!!

just play for a month and cancel it before the next month so they don't charge you double.

Yes. He's saying play it for one month, get charged for that month, and if you don't like it, cancel before the month is up so you don't get charged for the next month.
