Korn :(

Another good name. Though it's even more moronic when you spell it "correctly" as KoRn.

Red jumpsuit apparatus. Its so long and doesn't really have anything to do with the music IMO.

Beatles?

*shoots*

John Lennon saw a man on a flaming pie high in the sky. He said to him, "You will be known as the Beatles with an A."

Then again, it could have something to do with "beat".

On topic: Pussycat Dolls.

'Chumbawumba' is certainly an odd name for a band; can't deny their musical contribution though.

My country has produced a few unusual band names too: Salmonella Dub, Hello Sailor, and Stellar* (the asterisk is part of the name) come to mind. Shihad certainly rate a mention, too - named after a mis-hearing of 'Jihad' from the Dune saga. They were temporarily renamed 'Pacifier' in the interests of political correctness, but thankfully they ditched that nonsensical moniker and returned to their original one.

Butthole Surfers still takes the cake for worst band name ever. Foo Fighters aren't too far behind. Panic! At The Disco makes me want to break something whenever I hear it, especially when it's said by an over-sensitive fan who insists on emphasising Panic because of the exclamation mark.

I never found Fall Out Boy to be a good name, or band.

My Guitar Hero 2 band's name is "Pink Bunnies of Doom." I think it's cool, but there are quite a few people that laugh about it.

I can't think of any off the top of my head, but I suggest to anyone who is interested to take a look at any number of extended black/dark/speed metal. Most of those are horrid.

Oh!

Godspeed You! Black Emperor

What the hell were you thinking, idiots. "Hey, let's be dumb."

Do boy bands count? If they do, then I think Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, O-Town, etc. can all go in this thread. Oh, what the heck, I'll bring up the Spice Girls, too.

But they're more like pseudo-music that were formed as a marketing ploy and not actual bands.

Well, since they are referred to as boy-"bands" I guess we can include them all. And why not throw them all into a big bon-fire while we're at it! :mwahaha:

Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine, often referred to as Carter USM due to the crappiness of the original name... :eep:

EDIT: Also, Half Man Half Biscuit and Sultans of Ping (just heard someone mention these on the radio, along with Carter USM, funnily enough! O_o)

Well, some of those are references to other things the band may have admired. 'As I Lay Dying' is the title of a William Faulkner book (It's Faulkner, right? I can't remember the author.).

Fall Out Boy is a reference to a comic book hero on The Simpsons.

Panic! at the Disco is a reference to a song of which the band and title of the song escapes me.

Another one:

Rainbow Butt Monkeys. They changed their name to Finger Eleven though.

I would think one listen to any of their songs would be enough to determine why they chose that name. It fits perfectly.

Unlike, say Neutral Milk Hotel, which I'd assume you listen to based on your profile information.

Their music explains that they took their name from a docmentary about a Japanese Biker Gang? Interesting.

GooeyToast

lol ur clever.

I'm sure the name wasn't taken to imply they were Japanese bikers. To me it implies a dark, satirical humour about politics, which fits because they are very outspoken anarchists with very critical world views. Their music perfectly reflects this also, as it is very solemn and emotional. But I'm sure you already knew that.

Why you would choose the beloved Godspeed amongst a sea of ridiculously titled, unsensical bands (Neutral Milk Hotel, Limp Bizkit, Panic At The Disco, Butthole Surfers, Hoobastank, etc.) that have nothing to do with their music makes little sense to me.

Any band that finds it a good Idea to name them selves after a contry or continant gets my vote, I'm talking "Europe", "America", "Brtish", "Asia", and probably many more. It's even worst when you're not even from that place (e.g. "America" are from England and "British" is full of Americans!)
