1. This game was released in 1996; will I be able to play it on a Nintendo DS?

2. Does the awesome technology of the Nintendo DS improve the game in some way?
Like adding colours and stuff.

No you can't, the DS can only take GBA cartridges and DS cartridges IIRC. Get Pokemon FireRed for the GBA, it's the same game only vastly improved.

You could just get Pokemon Diamond or Pearl for the DS.

If you still wish to play the original Red and Blue versions other than on an emulator, you will have to use a Gameboy or Gameboy Color.
