what do you think of the new battle system? personally i dont understand it, it is much better when in goes onto a separate battle screen like in other ff games.
also sometimes i attack and it doesnt hit him i have to keep doing it a few times eforeit actuall hit the appponent. why is this?

it's nice to look at. My first playthrough I found the game very boring towards the end due to the fact that you can just push the stick and that's it.
i'm on my second playthrough and i'm enjoying it still, we'll have to see endgame. It's different. There's alot of inherent strategy to it w/ gambits, i just played tiamat, and a change in gambits (and purchasing a few gold needles) completely reversed the difficulty. So in that regard, it's a success.
at the same time, i do miss victory music (only for boss battles now), and i think Square got really good in PSX era with the camera positions and how it changes in battle, helped to make the battles more fun to watch and participate in. so right now i would say i prefer ATB to ADB.

I like how no single strategy is a sure fire way to win all battles. I also loved having to rethink it during different parts ofteh game. That was the best part of XII in my view.

I liked it. It was nice to be able to fight and eat without having to always go back to the controllerxD
It's really not complicated if you do your gambits correctly.

I thought this vid would be good for the discussion:
YouTube - FFXII - Interview with director - Gambits and the NFL (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYIzjBbO2FQ)
developer interview from the bonus disc about ADB, why it's here, what it's all about, pretty interesting how it's based off of the...NFL....sounds weird but it makes sense, check it out.

I thought it was, for the most part, a step in the right direction. However, there are some serious balancing issues which basically leads to only one really useful set-up for all characters with only minor differences between them. No combination is effective as a buffed up physical character and what should have been a system that allowed players to build characters any way they want ultimately punishes them for doing so. This has been the downfall of many a CRPG over the years and it's disappointing to see that it's found its way into the JRPG genre as well.
