...so I don't install them at home. But at work, we have to use norton antivirus, and the program is terrible when it runs a scan, as it must use the processor at 100% (that's how I know it's running -- I can't work).

What's the point of an antivirus program if it can't even run properly? And have you ever had a program wreck complete havoc on your system?

(some people may remember my spaiwear thread....ahh classic)

I had norton in high school computers but I still prefer mine! Anyway I don't know what's the point to make a program that doesn't run well! maybe it's an old program! :rolleyes2

My friend had Norton or some such suite, and his subscription ran out so he uninstalled it. Then it promptly broke Window's network stack. He had to do a fresh install to fix it after I helped him troubleshoot it for about an hour.

When I use Windows, suffice to say, I don't use those over bloated software suites.

Oooh spaiwear. <333

Oh, and my PC has Norton, but my laptop has another program that's dandy.

Yeah Nortan is retarded. So is your work. Punch them in their face. And by face I mean the collective face of your entire office. Or just the fattest person there. At least you get a virus-scan break. You should start doubling up the files on your computer so it takes double the time to scan. That'll show them!

Yes, I have had programs that wreck complete havoc on my computer. Specifically since I changed to vista, NO program with a driver will run correctly. Also, I had to run the install file for Winamp in compatibility mode for Windows XP because it started glitching out on me. I have my virus scanner set to scan at some completely absurd hour so I won't ever notice it.

I'd disable the norton and install something else (anything else) but I can't.

I've heard bad things about Vista. From my dad no less. He's pretty upset that it took him over a week to get Vista to a semi-workable state. In that period in the times when I poked around with Vista, I found the entire program unintuitive, annoying, and too secure (would you like to install this software that came from a cd rom drive that was suddenly inserted into the computer?)

C'mon now.

:(

...and the most retarded thing about their stupid security system (UAC) is that they don't let you turn it off. You have to run MSConfig to do it! Like having something second guess EVERY single thing I run is going to stop viruses. After a month, I'd be blindly clicking 'Ok' without even a second of reading. It doesn't work, it confuses grandma, and it makes virus makers laugh. Why, Microsoft, WHY?

No idea what you're talking about. I turned off user access control in the control panel with something like three clicks. Maybe you just don't know how to use Vista...

THe reason the default is set to 'too secure', as you like to call it, is that 95% of the users have no smurfing idea how to use a computer securely. It's like issuing cars to people without drivers licenses, and then compensating by putting in 50 airbags.

If you don't like the default user interface, then don't use it. You can still use the windows classic interface, not that it's too different anyway. I had no problems adjusting to Vista's slightly modified interface.

But anyway, on topic: I used Norton Antivirus a few years ago, and I didn't like it. Nowadays, I use AVG, though I never really need it, I haven't had a single infected file.

AVG is king, as it is unobtrusive, quiet, and incredibly secure and stable.

When I got my laptop, my mom was like DON'T INSTALL MCAFEE!!! I'm gonna put Norton on there later. Lucky for me, McAfee installed itself! She never got around to installing it...

I have McAfee, and they have Norton. Their computer is always screwing up, and before I got my own they always blamed me. Funny...my computer works just fine

I don't use any security system any longer. I used to use McAfee, but it kept lagging me out of games even when I set the options to times where I don't play, and it still checked when I played. As such, I was fed up with it, neutered its ass, and later uninstalled it, because neutering wasn't enough.

So, congratulations hackers, you have found your way onto my computer. Suffice it to say, I don't use this computer for anything besides gaming and porn. You can establish that I like FF, KH, and live somewhere that is not the Third World. That effectively limits your options to 3 billion people.

If you look up the porn, then you will find out that I am a teenage male. You're still left with 3 billion people.

I would imagine that Norton is worse, due to it requiring IE to operate. Sam tells me Symantec isn't a pain.

At the time I didn't have a copy of windoze expee that let me get updates so it was actually better.
