So, after a tutorial from Polaris, I started making sigs.
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d130/BlackRoseAngel99/Signatures/garnetsig.png
^ My first ever sig.

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d130/BlackRoseAngel99/Signatures/garnetredone.jpg
^ My first sig after Polaris did some editing. God, she is majorly talented. *is very very jealous*

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d130/BlackRoseAngel99/Signatures/love.jpg

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d130/BlackRoseAngel99/Signatures/heavens.jpg

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d130/BlackRoseAngel99/Signatures/flower.jpg

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d130/BlackRoseAngel99/Signatures/rain.jpg

It's not all of them, but these are the ones I like the most. I would like advice on how to better myself, but please use small words since I'm just starting out. ;-;

*All Made In GIMP 2.2

Nice! I use the same program. Here let me help:

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h143/DaggerTrepe623/tifa.jpg

Say that: I used gradients, softglow, gausian blur and lighten only a few times, sharpened, erased, used c4ds and brushes.

Quite simple, really.

Ha! simple but effective >< like what owen told me =(, anyway welcome to the world of sig making.. I'll be a regular coment guy, don't worry i know how to make sigs aswell so no need to worry about whom to get critiques from.. but yeah, welcome..

I really like the last two of yours (yeah I had to comment ^^) I find your style really interesting and sweet! :) For first sigs they're awsome, way better than mine when I started! Keep like that! ;)

Thank you for your comments. Dagger, I'll start playing around with those tools later today. I never really knew what they did. ^^;

Here are a couple more I did. ^^

The first one is smexsay. You're on your way, for sure!

(btw here's the tut that started it all for me.)

Full Sig Tut (http://www.gimptalk.com/forum/topic/Full-Sig-Tut-7768-1.html)

I highly recommend it. You'll probably branch off in a different way than I did, though. Everyone has their own style! :)

i like your sigs. They're very simple and looks very neat. Do consider joining the sigmakers challenge (http://forums.eyesonff.com/graphic-design-forum/103490-new-sigmakers-challenge.html).

atlanteay, you and your advertising.

atlanteay

i know i know... just trying to get the competition alive :p one more competition with only 4 entries then i might as well stop the competition :(

so yeah, join the challenge and since my comp broke, you have a lot of time to enter XD

Black Angel

I'll think about, atlanteay. ^^

2 more done~! Yay!

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d130/BlackRoseAngel99/Signatures/gold.jpg
Yay for sparkles. ^^

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d130/BlackRoseAngel99/Signatures/mad.jpg
Meh...This one looks a little screwy. I was playing around with one of the warping tools, and then started adding the text and looked like the Cheshire cat threw up all over it. D:
And I didn't make the Human Cheshire cat pic, so I give credit to its owner, and in case you can read the text, it says "We're All Mad Here". ^^

FINALLY! The Gackt one is done. I swear, I had to redo this one so many times...>.<;;;;;

But I like the ending result. <3

Really good sigs I gotta say n.n, good work. About the last one, it's a great work, but something is not working with the hair... nah, maybe it's just me hehe. Keep going! n.n

Black Angel
07-09-2007, 01:20 AM
Well, it was just how the pic came, and it was the only one I really liked and could work with out of a bunch, so yeah. ^^;

Hehe, don't worry about that, I like it n.n

I'm impressed with your sigs, you did better than me when i started ><..

Anyway, keep it up, and soon you'll be able to go head to head with my friend NaroK ><..

But yeah.. i suggest you to hone up your skills by messing around with the effects and such.. you never know what you may find ...

Black Angel
07-09-2007, 07:12 PM
NaroK is pretty good. ^^; Dunno if I'll ever be as good as him. But anyways, here are some more. ^^

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d130/BlackRoseAngel99/Signatures/lips.jpg
This didn't come out as good as I wanted it to. :aimcry:

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d130/BlackRoseAngel99/Signatures/earth.jpg
The background was made from a tutorial Polaris gave me and it looked so...earthy (for lack of a better term) to me.

daggertrepe

I like them but they seem a bit flat and monochromatic. try using some gradients and gradients maps. :)

Black Angel
07-09-2007, 08:12 PM
Something like this, perhaps?

OHH much better! I love it!!!

Try using gaussian blur and overlay, along with some c4d's. :)

Black Angel
07-09-2007, 08:46 PM
Can you explain what a c4d is? ^^;

Polaris
07-09-2007, 09:09 PM
C4ds is too complicated for you in this stage! Before we pass to the c4ds you'll have to know how to bledn images and use more complicated brushes! ^^" Let's go slowly! Step by step! ;)
Anyway all of them are great! :) Specially the one you're using!

Black Angel
07-09-2007, 09:18 PM
Dankashane, teacher. ^^ Here's a really simple one I did.

daggertrepe

This is my first second time using an actual picture for a sig. This pic is from my profile, so yeah. ^^ I've been having a hard time with inspiration. :( I might edit this in the future. I got that little xxx brush from deviantART, so yeah, I give credit to the artist. ^^

atlanteay
07-10-2007, 06:30 PM
that is actually a very good sig, way better than any of your other sigs. I suggest you keep using a person or image in your sigs to have a focus in the sig.

Black Angel
07-10-2007, 08:57 PM
Alright, I'll put a little more practice into that. :)

Here are 2 more that I am very proud of.

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d130/BlackRoseAngel99/Signatures/starrynight.jpg

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d130/BlackRoseAngel99/Signatures/yunaxtidus.jpg
Yay~! Yuna x Tidus. =)

I give credit to the author who made the little swirl brushes. :D

Polaris
07-10-2007, 10:26 PM
An advice - don't use text brushes for sigs because they'll end up beign really small comparing to the sig! ;) keep a normal font or you can get some really goods at dafont ;) Text brushes are awsome for avatars! If you make one avy and u want to put text, put those brushes! But sigs are too large for those tiny sweet things :D The last one looks great! ;)

daggertrepe
07-10-2007, 10:37 PM
Nice one! I love the one with the girl. I have the same text brushes.

Black Angel
07-11-2007, 01:54 PM
Dankashane. ^^

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d130/BlackRoseAngel99/Signatures/magic.jpg
This one really didn't need that much sprucing up. I just stuck with a brush to light up the eyes then added the swirl brush and text.

Polaris
07-11-2007, 01:57 PM
Wow that's awsome! I know that image I tried to do smth with it but I ended up not having ideas and you just made me have one ^^"
really good!:)

Again, another random one. I have an addiction with those curly brushes, it seems. Sadly, they aren't mine. D: But I still give credit to the artist. ^^ I love these little brushes.
And are those stripes blue on black, or black on blue?!

daggertrepe

I lie the brushes. VERY nice. :)

^ I know, Polaris, you told me not to use the text brushes, but I thought it looked really nice with it. ><

I decided to make 2 more from the same picture. ^^

And again, my addiction with those curly brushes. DX

I'd like to get him out of his clothes.

Polaris

This brush is ok ;) Even though it focus on the girl but I reallu like what you did!

Another advice (Jesus when I'll end up giving advices u'll be the master of masters ) Use softglow to make the face less blury and more shiny!;) (Go to Filters - Artistic - Softglow)

atlanteay

it's okay to use text brushes when they're really big ones. If they're text brushes made for icon uses, then don't use those.

Black Angel
07-12-2007, 08:34 PM
Okie dokie. ^^

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d130/BlackRoseAngel99/Signatures/boylove.jpg
I just thought I'd do a yaoi one.

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d130/BlackRoseAngel99/Signatures/transparentsig.gif
Heh. As bored as you get sometimes. ^^; A transparent one with a border. It's the exact size of a regular sig here. ^^

Polaris
07-12-2007, 08:48 PM
I know where you got the heart brushes
there's nothing I can teach you now! You learnt really fast! :D Congratulations! :D

Black Angel

Nice one! I don't think it's too early for c4d's. :(

Hey!! i can't even use c4d's yet!! too complicated for me...But yeah, your backgrounds are excellent! just prob need to start adding pictures..but adding pics can be a bit much, so i suggest you make the sig without a pic, then you add the picture.. it's much easier that way, or the other way around, finding a picture before hand, but finding the pic afterwards is how i roll ^.^, but it's your choice!

Good luck with the on going sigs, your doing great!

atlanteay
07-13-2007, 04:03 AM
i never saw the complexity behind C4D usage =/ the process of making the C4D itself is a lot harder than making a sig with them. Basically, C4Ds are 3D models made in Cinema 4D but they are very abstract due to its odd shapes and materials. This is an example:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y18/Vo1ture/pms_C4d6.jpg

put it over your sig and set the mode to dodge or lighten only. Sometimes screen works too. It adds a little flare to the sig and sometimes if you use large amounts of it, it looks cool.

Black Angel
07-13-2007, 04:12 AM
*looks up a few more c4d's on Google*
*almost chokes on a sugar wafer*

Man, I wanna do that.

Kanshisha
07-13-2007, 02:08 PM
Ok, i understand how to use it now.. lol, wiht my stupidity, i used to just put it over the sig without any fixtures!

Ha! what a world we live in...

daggertrepe
07-13-2007, 02:29 PM
The sig I have right now used c4d's

see all that shiny weird objects and lines? Those are done using C4Ds. It all depends on the placement and the kind of C4D you use.

the sig is done in GIMP so there should be no limitations. If you need any C4Ds, you can just PM or post it here :)

frequency
07-19-2007, 10:25 PM
Those are really cute =).

I do like them but with practice and using different tools then they could be even better.

keep it up.

((atlanteay - your sigs are bloody amazing))
