What are the best guitar solos ever? The ones that make you go "Holy crap that was freakin' awesome!"

For me, "Highway Star" by Deep Purple is just that.

EDIT: Forgot to mention "Ride the Lightning" by Metallica.

Pick any bass guitar solo Victor Wooten's done for Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. They're absolutely unreal.

The Velvet Underground's Sunday Morning has an almost perfect guitar solo. I'll take sweet and concise over lengthy and complex any day.

God, I really can't decide. There's so many good ones. I think I'll just make a list. Of course, I've gotta top the list, and end it, with the Big Four of Thrash!

Kerry King's solo towards the end of Slayer's "Hallowed Point"
Metallica's "Master of Puppets"
Anthrax's "Be All, End All"
Megadeth's "Washington Is Next"
Shadows Fall's "A Fire In Babylon" (I ESPECIALLY love the way the clean guitar part leads up to the solo in that song)
Arch Enemy's "We Will Rise"
Testament's "Eerie Inhabitants"
Children Of Bodom's "Are You Dead Yet?"
Arch Enemy's "Ravenous"
Pantera's "F***ing Hostile" (R.I.P. Dimebag Darrell...)
Black Label Society's "Stillborn"
Michael Amott's solo in Arch Enemy's "Burning Angel"
Pantera's "The Sleep"
Children Of Bodom's "Needled 24/7"
Hammerfall's "Natural High"
Iron Maiden's "The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg"
Judas Priest's "Painkiller"
Suicidal Tendencies' "You Can't Bring Me Down"
Machine Head's "A Thousand Lies"
Sanctity's "Beneath The Machine"
The intro solo to Metallica's "Fade To Black" (the first solo I ever learned to play)
Anthrax's "Caught In A Mosh"
Megadeth's "Something That I'm Not"
Jeff Hanneman's solo in Slayer's "Hell Awaits"

While really not solo's per say, still very good riffs.
Dream Theater - Stream Of Consciousness
Avenged Sevenfold - Sidewinder
Slayer - South Of Heaven (beginning riff is so ungodly)
Audioslave - Like A Stone, Be Yourself (Tom Morello = beast on guitar)

Not neccessarily the best solos but the guitar tones on the solos to Killer Queen by Queen and Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty are cool.

As for solos you cant beat Randy Rhoads, technique and soul esp on Mr Crowley, plus Zappa has done loads of fantastic solos
