So, why one post per ten? Why did we pick that number? Why, in fact, do we generally have a base ten numerical system? (I know that's not universally true, but it is the most common.) I have heard it is simply because we have ten digits on our hands. I don't know. The explanation seems plausable, yet it doesn't sit terribly well with me for some reason.

Anyone got any ideas or thoughts they'd like to share? Once per seven posts?

yeah, supposedly it's based on the fingers on our hands. but i can count to 1023 on two hands, so digital counting goes out the window! (132 is a not-nice number to showcase on 2 hands)

we could do base 6 like naitsirk used to suggest. one hand counts 0-5, the other counts 6's. you could count to 35 on 2 hands.

I believe it is based upon the decimation system a particulary nasty option that used to be used on surrendering military units where to further supress the men and deject them they'd be forced to line up and every 10th man would be unceremoniously killed there and then..
