Inspired by DemonDude55's thread -

What is the best game that ISN'T in the main series?

(Am not including the beginning of SaGa or SoM or Bahamut Lagoon or Vagrant Story or any of the Chocobo series or FFVII snowboarding)

Mystic Quest. I never beaten it, but I always start a new game and get far:p

Tactics and Mystic Quest. I know a lot of people despise Mystic Quest for its simplicity, but I love the music and the bright, cheery graphics.

Final Fantasy Tactics is better then the vast majority of the games in the main series. Final Fantasy X-2 is similarly great.

The rest I could take or leave.

Mystic Quest is good, its a really fun game despite how easy it is :P

Mystic Quest music is win. Fireburg (I think) is the best.

Tactics Advance. Mystic Quest I never finished and I never saw what was so fantastic about Tactics. CC I can't play, X-2 I haven't played yet and I don't plan to play DoC anytime soon.

So yeah, Tactics Advance, besides me being biased about it because it was my first FF game, it's an awesome game in its own right and it's shunned or pushed in Tactics' shadow way too much by the FF-fans.

Tactics. How anyone could vote for anything else besides this (Mystic Quest in particular) is beyond me.

If you look in my sig, Mystic Quest isn't in my victory list. That's not because I didn't beat it. I did. It just doesn't count because it's classified as a beginner's game. But, yeah. It's a spinoff. So, that's another reason for it not to count. Though, I listed Final Fantasy X-2 in my victory list, so figure that one out.

My vote goes for Final Fantasy X-2. It was the most like the mainstream games and the mainstream games are what I most like.

Tactics is better than most of the main series titles, even with it's bad translation, so of course it gets my vote.

Tactics is quite possibly the best Final Fantasy whatever. I feel it's better than most of the main series. With it's complex and wonderful storiy, it's compelling cast, wonderful gameplay and sheer depth. So damn straight it gets my vote.

Though my second choice would be Tactics Advance which was a damn good game that gets bashed for stupid reasons.

Easily Final Fantasy Tactics, although i do believe its disgusting how much the faults of this game get overlooked by peeps. I think the story much much more than makes up for them though.

Ouch!

Final Fantasy Adventure should be up there. Even though it was the first Seiken Densetsu, its subtitle was still Final Fantasy Gaiden and had true FF aesthetic (Chocobos, a Red Mage, etc.) until it was remade. It's also the only FF spinoff I ever really cared for. Shining Force 3 totally wipes the floor with FFT.

But it's not a FF spin-off so it's irrelevant here.

Tactics advance as I never played tactics and despised most of the others.

You're not missing anything. I bought Tactics once. I ended up returning it the same day because it was so bad. I realize that's against the popular opinion on this forum, but I'm allowed to not like it, so don't tell me how good you think it is. I understand most of you love it. I'm not insulting you for liking it, so I don't need to be insulted for not liking it.

I voted FFTA. I love the game and I don't know what all the people want from this game. It's really good! And I'd love to play the original Tactics (but I probably won't since I got a DS - I WON't get a PSP - I just HATE it). There hasn't yet been an FF that I didn't like...

Hm, this is why I didn't make it public, so people could vote for the...less liked games and not have to cringe in shame. :p

Wow, I didn't realise so many people loved Tactics. I only played TA and got bored with the battle system - I know, I'm a horrible, shallow person. I may give it another go some day.
