There hasn't been a thread about this in too long. As I am obsessed with it, I will make a new one.

Who else plays The Sims 2? Who else plays it as much as I do? Probably no one. I am sad like that. I even have it open in a window as I type this.

I have bought all of the expansion packs, and pirated all of the stuff packs. My Downloads folder is 12GB.

I make custom content to post at mod the sims 2 (http://www.ModTheSims2.com) (here, if you wanna see (http://www.modthesims2.com/member/Plum)).

And then some.

I can't decide if it'll be good when I start my new job and don't have as much time for the game anymore, or bad. If this game were online I'd be like that guy who played WoW until he died.

I get reobsessed with The Sims 2 almost on a scheduled basis. I play it non-stop for two weeks every month and a half or so. I started with a couple in a new neighborhood. I pretty much made them a baby factory, and I've since populated almost the entire area with their offspring.

The great thing about this game is that there is still SO MUCH in the expansion packs that I've barely even begun to explore. I just started the Sim owned businesses, and I'm currently having a grand 'ole time building a brothel.

Mod the Sims 2 is fantastic, but I haven't bought any of the expansion packs yet which sucks because the good custom stuff is for the expansion packs only. So yeah, have to get some of those soon. I was thinking of picking up Nightlife or University.

All the expansions I have I've paid for, but the last bug I got was the last straw. Because EA distributed the wrong English regions (UK vs US, etc), there was a bug where all Sim's names were mixed up.

Too many bugs. I'm getting bootleg copies from now on.

I have Sims 2 and the University expansion. Lately, though, my good ol' trusty game has decided to reject the computer and not load. At all.

Try going to My Documents > EA Games > The Sims 2 and deleting groups.cache. Sometimes that gets corrupted and causes the game to just plain not load. The game will regenerate it.

Because I have so much custom content, I have to do this often.

My sister-in-law is pretty addicted. She like made our entire family in a neighborhood or something and it takes her like fifteen minutes to load the game up with all the content. I don't see a point in it all, but I guess it's a chick thing.

I haven't played The Sims 2 since January of 06, and that makes me sad. And yes, Mod the Sims 2 is fantastic. :O I should pick up an expansion some time. But then again, there are so many games I have to play, so many AP classes to take...

Maybe I'll wait 'till I'm 40 to pick it back up again.

Alright, I have a fresh, clean slate, with all of the expansions waiting to be installed.

Is there anything OMFG awesome I ought to do before I load all of these expansions, or am I able to install them all and then get various mods and the like?

And also, since I am in the mode of asking, where might I find some good FREE sites that offer free content?

Installing mods is quite easy, there isn't anything difficult to it. You should get the Sims Clean installer though, it will make sure that the mods you install don't have any files that might cause conflict. Also, backup your saves often.

Must haves:

Clean Installer (http://sims2pack.modthesims2.com/) - an external program to be sure you don't get hacks with lots
CEP (Color Enabler Package) (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=92541) - Makes it so objects that were not intended to have recolors can

Other than those, just download what you want from ModTheSims2.com and PaySites.MustBeDestroyed.org/booty, the later of which is a collection of all the items people try to charge money for made free.

I downloaded CEP once, because I needed for a custom living room set. So I tried installing it after the download, but it wouldn't work. Everytime I tried it, the thing failed. So, I just deleted it. :-\
