May as well make the thread for this now, at any rate!

For now, I have a league made on this site (http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/help.mc?category=rules), but of course if someone can find something better then throw it out there.

For now though, the code to get into the EoFF league on this site is:

391039-79020

Members and Teams:

DK: Brian
Blutsplurt: Earth Wind and Dire
The Captain: Team America
Psychotic: Some kind of Walrus?
Cz: Melchester Rovers
demondude55: demondudes
Loony BoB: BoB's Bunch
Heath: Soft Mint City
blim: Bees
Doomie: The Grass-stains
Rocket Edge: Brazilian Sugarkids
Skogs: FC Skogs

Cool, I had a team in another league, so that was easy!

Just a pity my team looks pretty bad. I think Paul Scholes has went and got himself injured, dammit.

Do you want a sticky?

Psychotic
07-25-2007, 12:34 AM
England can sticky its own threads!

I am signing up as we speak.

EDIT: Oh, official Premiership league? If memory serves, I won EoFF's version of this last time. (came 2nd and 4th in the other two)

EDIT2: Yup, my account details were saved.

DK

Yeah I figured Towns/Paul would sticky the thread when they saw it, but thanks for asking Del.

Also, that's pretty suave. Now you just need to join the league!

Psychotic
07-25-2007, 12:54 AM
I just did. I see you also went for the purple kit theme.

DK
07-25-2007, 12:58 AM
I actually thought I'd make it Blue and Pink, but that's what I get for being colour blind! Our kits are clearly the most fetching, though. :aimkiss:

Is there any way we can browse each others players or not?

Psychotic

Not until after the first game.

Cz
07-25-2007, 01:17 PM
Team America's definitely The Captain, despite his recent elusiveness.

I'm in as Melchester Rovers. The classic kit, of course.

DK

Suave, cheers for clearing that up dude.

Shame you can't change player names to go with your kit :{

We could list our squads here?

Earth, Wind and Dire:

G Sorenson (Aston Villa)
D Cole (Chelsea)
D Geremi (Newcastle) - hopefully they'll stop conceding 2/3 a game...
D Carragher (Liverpool)
D King (Tottenham)
M Downing (Middlesbrough) - obligatory Boro player.
M Gerrard (Liverpool)
M Scholes (Man U)
M Reo Coker (West Ham)
F Torres (Liverpool)
F Owen (Newcastle)

Subs:
G Camp (Derby) - Largely for the name.
D Ifil (Tottenham)
M Morrison (Middlesbrough)
F Tuncay (Middlesbrough) - he will be awesome, but I think Boro will play him on the right wing rather than up front.

Couldn't resist Rooney/Ronaldo. With assists counting a lot more in this system, and knowing how well the two work together (let alone how often they're played), I think I should be safe for some time - at least until one of them gets injured. Here's hoping that's a while away!

PS. Why the fascination with Hargreaves?

More like why the fascination with Emerson Boyce?

Loony BoB

Cheap! :D

DK
07-28-2007, 01:14 AM
Hargreaves is great, and he's new to the league so they didn't price him as much as they could have, as far as I can tell. High work rate should get some good points!

Psychotic
07-28-2007, 01:16 AM
I'm a nice guy, so I'll explain to you why he is cheap in 5 easy steps.

1) Wigan have signed a new right-back. (Mario Melchiot)
2) Emerson Boyce plays at right-back.
3) Mario Melchiot has been appointed captain of Wigan.
4) Mario Melchiot will be Wigan's #1 right back.
5) Emerson Boyce will not be playing many games.

I'm not exactly going to play him, now, am I? Hargreaves is in there more for the CL than the Prem, as far as I can tell, and I don't expect him to play 60 minutes in Prem games on more than around half the league, if that. And as much as Carrick developed a goalscoring ability upon arriving at OT, I don't think the same will happen so quickly for Hargreaves. Although he can at least score penalties...

Psychotic
07-28-2007, 01:23 AM
You will if one of your other defenders gets injured. There are plenty of other defenders who will play, who cost the same as Mr. Boyce.

Even if he 'plays' one game - it all balances out. I guess it also depends a lot on your formations, mind you - I'm not very good at deciding whether to go 4-4-2 or 5-3-2 or 5-4-1 or whatever.

The Captain

Maybe it's just me, but I can't figure out how to change the formations.

D'oh! Nevermind, figured it out.

Take care all.

Psychotic
07-30-2007, 03:59 AM
Simple.

Let's say you're playing 4-4-2 and want to change to a 4-3-3. Click the yellow arrow key next to the midfielder you want out, and then click the green arrow key next to the striker you want to put in.

EDIT: Good work, Captain!

I'll keep this here in case anybody else needs help though.

FW - Berbatov (Spurs)

Risky playing Berbatov what with the amount of forwards they have over there, but I decided to go ahead anyway. Eagles looks awesome the more I watch him (it was him or Reo-Coker with a lesser replacement for Noble) and I feel he and Noble combined should get a few games - I can play 3 in midfield until I figure out what the manager's tactics will be with how they play them and then go ahead from there. Defence is picked purely on who they will be playing and I brought in a decent alternative keeper for those weeks that Everton face tough opposition and Reading don't.

With Ashton fit and Bellamy brought into the forwards I didn't see Zamora starting every game like he used to. Dropping Speed was a bit of a gamble but - even if it is Speed - I just don't see him scoring another eight goals this season.

EDIT: Switched Noble for Leadbitter. More likely to get gametime. Will see how Sunderland goes before I play him, though.

I've taken a leaf out of your book and given my team a little overhaul as well.

Sadly let go of Arteta in favour of Fabregas. Van Persie is out of the team to bring in Kanu, allowing me the points to replace Eagles with Ronaldo. Scharner fits into my back row in place of Samuel, and I'll be looking to replace Stubbs and possibly Howard next time around with better value alternatives. But we'll see how Everton go... they just don't get many clean sheets!

Well, after a cruddy last round I don't know how on earth I've managed to stay in 5th. It's been time for some drastic changes so I've played my wildcard. I've swapped my reserve keeper for a cheap keeper still getting regular games (Kirkland) and dropped the expensive, yet pretty ineffectual Jenas for Hamann. Now I've got some cash in reserve to replace the injured Zamora next week with a half-way decent striker. Van Persie, maybe?

Aw crap. NOW they tell me that Van Der Sar's injury will keep him out for next week. Now my reserve keeper is up against Man United next week. :mad2:

Finnan maybe the next to go if he spends any more time on the bench.

Latest team (3-5-2):

GK - Van Der Sar (Man Utd) - will probably get auto-replaced
Def - Finnan (Liverpool)
Def - Arbeloa (Liverpool)
Def - Ferdinand (Man Utd)
MF - Hamann (Man City)
MF - N'Zogbia (Newcastle)
MF - Essien (Chelsea)
MF - Fabregas (C) (Arsenal)
MF - Johnson (Man City)
Str - Viduka (Newcastle)

Str - Zamora (West Ham) - injured

Loony BoB

If I were you, I'd sell Kirkland quick. Screw the penalty - you'll be penalised just as bad against United at Old Trafford. In our last five games against Wigan, we've scored 16 goals... and have never lost to 'em. But yeah, these things happen. Don't know why you bothered with Kirkland really. He's cheap for a reason. Better off with Taylor this weekend, and possibly coming weekends too. But more to the point, the extra 0.5-0.6 for the likes of Schmeichel, Green or Hahnemann would be well worth your money. Personally, I have Schmeichel and Hahnemann as a preference to the big four keepers. They make more saves because the defence isn't as good, but they still keep a lot of clean sheets. Much more likely to get bonus points, too. Kirkland's only clean sheets were at home against Sunderland and Middlesbrough, and that's no amazing feat.

Spending points to get points pays off, believe me.

EDIT: You'd really be better off spending points on the defenders in front of VDS, it should be noted. If you're going to have United players in your squad, go for Rio or Vidic - they'll get goals, bonus points and clean sheets.

City screw up another City clean sheet and I'm putting the blame once again firmly on Sven not playing Schmeichel. Is he injured or something? They got loads of clean sheets against even United when playing him, they stop getting clean sheets when they stop playing him. Take the hint, Sven, or bugger off. >=( Richards again being too expensive for his own good, with a yellow to boot... on the other hand, Schmeichel not playing means I got Hahnemann's clean sheet added to my points for today.

Still, making enough points out of this weekend to warrant my spending and allow for me to spend more points for more changes for next weekend. Enjoying this! I don't care to get top points, I just like getting a really nice looking team.

Dropping Essien, Scholes and Kanu for the next round. Bringing in N'Zogbia, Elano and Tevez. Difficult decision really, given Essien and Kanu are likely to be back in the fray after the internationals... but you never know these days and I need more goal-points from my midfield and I think those guys will get them. Likewise Tevez is only getting better for United and is starting to nab bonus points too, which can only help.

Ronaldo, Wallace, Fabregas, Anelka, Abedayor, Bouma, the Ferdinands, Richards and Kelly hold onto their spots... for now. Looking at the West Ham and City defenders as possibly getting replaced unless things change.

EDIT: I figure after subs (Schmeichel/Essien/Kanu for Hahnemann/Wallace/Kelly) I'll get at least 54 points for this weekend. :) Awesome. My decent bench payin' off!

I'd be mad at Robin Van Persie for scoring three in two games the moment I switch my captaincy to Cesc, but I can't stay upset at him because he is a bit of a hero.

I wouldn't blame Sven for City conceding these past couple of games. Although the stats are pretty impressive, Schmeichel looked pretty shaky at times early on in the season, and much of that record was actually down to the superb defence in front of him. Dropping Jermaine Pennant to the bench (he came on in the 88th minute).

Things that went not-so-right:

Leaving Benjani on the bench (which is where he'll stay unless either Neill or N'Zogbia don't play tomorrow). :(

Two more changes:

Mascherano for Pennant
Elano for Hamann

Switched the captaincy to Rio - don't see him conceding many goals against Boro.

Liverpool and Arsenal play each other next week and Man City face Chelsea. It may not be a good week for me...

EDIT: I played Hahnemann instead of Green. What was I thinking!? :(

Oh well, I did averagely enough I suppose. Jones scoring the game after I switched Anelka for him works nicely. Richards is on the go next game. Doesn't get those bonus points anymore and he'll sell at a nice price right now. I've just brought in Cech for Hahnemann to have a very nice pair of keepers, at least. Richards can stay just long enough to hopefully get me some points out of the Sunderland game and then I'll change him. Then it's a tough choice with Toure, Hreidarsson, Lescott et al all within my price range. I might just go for a cheaper option to see if I can improve elsewhere though, maybe get a second defender upgraded.

EDIT: My team...

Cech - Injured.
Green - Playing.

Ferdinand - Playing.
Garrido - Playing.
Laursen - Playing.
Bouma - Playing.
Varga - Injured.

Ronaldo - Rested.
Fabregas - Suspended.

I had a bit of a midfield dilemma myself today but nothing quite as serious. Fabregas was suspended and Arteta was doubtful so, temporarily, I've switched those two out for Lampard and Bentley. Turns out Arteta is playing after all, but oh well.

Edit: So my team for this week, for reference purposes:

GK - Reina
DF - Lescott
DF - Richards
DF - Ferdinand
MF - Bentley
MF - Lampard
MF - Elano
MF - Petrov
MF - Dempsey
FW - Adebayor
FW - Keane

Subs: Sorenson (GK), Ridgewell (DF), Shorey (DF), Forssel (FW)

Loony BoB
11-29-2007, 04:34 PM
Out: Adebayor, Bouma. They both served me very well - particularly the latter at his low cost.
In: The other A-as;odhig-or guy, Distin. Hopefully they'll keep up their form.

The important thing is that I now have five players from five different teams in my back 3/4/5 so I can better pick my teams depending on who is facing who. Well, four players, really. Like I'm ever actually going to use Varga. :p

My injury woes should ease up in December, though. Hleb, Cech and Fabregas all returning is great, Varga is already back but again, well, you know. xD He's cheap as chips, mate!

EDIT: I now have seven of the 'Dream Team' players, too. Ha.

Brought in Petrov at the Expense of Reo-Coker, don't play Reo-Coker anyway and we're up against Wigan so I'm backing Petrov to score some good points. Dropped Laursen 'cause Aston Villa playing Arsenal, and dropped Dempsey and brought in Petrov 'cause of previously mentioned Wigan and 'cause Fulham playing Man Utd.

Keane and Bejani still my strikers, Reina still in goal and Dunne, Lescott, Distin, Carragher, Gerrard, N'Zogbia and Elano make up the rest of my team.

Loony BoB
12-03-2007, 02:07 PM
I'm just gonna keep Elano. I have all my points used up, so if I sell a good player then I'm not gonna be able to get them back in easily as they cost more to buy than they do to sell (which is :(). I still have Fabregas, Hleb, Ronaldo and Wallace anyway. My first choice team, when fit, are going to get me a fair load of points though. :D Very happy with it at the mo, even if they didn't get me too much this time around.

DK
12-03-2007, 07:43 PM
I've had extra points to work with since the start, I've compiled a high scoring (in the context of our league) team for as cheap as possible. Even bringing in Tevez and Bentley leaves me with 2 points leftover.

Heath
12-04-2007, 12:18 AM
Gah, I never seem to be fully happy with squad. Perhaps I should stop tinkering with it so much, but I'm determined to try and regain first place. Not had a bad week this week, but it doesn't make up for quite a few disappointing weeks I've had. Wish I'd made Bentley captain. Lampard was the worst scoring member of my team, yet I made him captain. The bastard.

Edit: Curses! Now that I see that me and The Captain have the same gameweek points thus far (66), I really DO wish I'd had Bentley as my captain as I would've narrowly leapfrogged him. Also seems that Skogs and Burtsplurt got 66 points as well. Popular score.

After hearing the news that Hleb and Fabregas will miss the trip to Middlesbrough, I've given in and removed Hleb and Cech in exchange for Cahill and Almunia, at least for the short term. I might change back later on, depending on how injuries work out. I was looking forward to having Cech in goal for a long period but it seems that such an idea wasn't to be.

Tevez getting a bit frustrating with something like five or six chances on Monday with not one of them going in, but I'm sure he'll get his goals eventually. Either that or I bring in VDS at his expense and go for a more expensive player up front.

Heath
12-06-2007, 02:29 PM

Taken a risk and changed my team when there's still a week to go...

Fabregas in for Gerrard
Cech in for Almunia
Gabbidon in for Garrido

Brought Hleb in for Elano this week, too - Elano was coming back but I do feel that Hleb is a bargain at 7.1 and if he hadn't been injured he'd have about 80 points anyway. Fabregas for Gerrard is a no-brainer, cheaper and just as much potential for points so there's no reason not to. Cech for Almunia obvious enough too, and Gabbidon in for Garrido as City's defensive mean streak is gone now and West Ham's is ongoing. Still considering putting in Bouma but I do like having options for teams.

DK

Ridiculously bad week for all of us really. At least I've managed to pull away from The Captain a bit so I get a bit breathing space. The fact that Fabregas is back is excellent news for next week because it means I can get rid of Lampard who was very disappointing and even get back some money to spend! If I were to swap Reina for Green then I'd have an extra 2.6 million to mess around with too. I think, perhaps, I'll just swap Lampard out for now though.

Haven't posted in a while, but managing to clamber back into 5th spot. Made a fair few changes - notably dropping Fabregas and Elano and bringing on Cahill and Gerrard. Am liking my current goalkeeper pairing of Green and James. Both West Ham and Pompey teams are doing reasonable well and it's an unlucky week where both of them are up against particularly stiff opposition. Current line-up:

GK: Green (West Ham)
Def: Arbeloa (Liverpool)
Def: Toure (Arsenal)
Def: Neill (West Ham)
Def: Ferdinand (Man Utd)
MF: Hunt (Reading)
MF: Mascherano (Liverpool)
MF: N'Zogbia (Newcastle)
MF: Gerrard (Liverpool) - capt
Str: Tevez (Man Utd)
Str: Adebayor (Arsenal)

Bench:

GK: James (Portsmouth)
Def: Evra (Man Utd)
MF: Cahill (Everton)
Str: Benjani (Portsmouth)

I think the bench may raise a few eyebrows (they're all class players), but I reckon Neill is more likely to keep a clean sheet against Boro than Evra is against Everton. Likewise, N'Zogbia and Hunt have easier games this round (Derby and Sunderland, respectively) the Timmy Cahill does (Man Utd).

1526: Aston Villa are on top against Manchester City now. Martin Laursen heads over then Gabriel Agbonlahor is claiming a goal after his scuffed shot is cleared off the line by Elano. It's impossible to tell if it crossed the line or not.

Loony BoB

That's exactly why he only lasted a week or so in my team. I don't enjoy using Liverpool players, too much rotation. Understandable in recent times when they've been focusing on the CL, though, but not worth the risk for me.

I'm really happy with my setup, although James and Schwarzer were both not playing last weekend which killed my scores. Larsson also did far better than any of my midfielders bar Barry, and I'm annoyed at that as I left him on the bench.

Heath
04-30-2008, 05:17 PM
James not playing hurt me too because my sub goalkeeper (Niemi) is out injured or something. I put Larsson in my team which is one of the few things that made me avoid having a really bad week. I had Reina in my squad for about half the season until I changed to Green and then to James. I figured I'd try Torres as he was in good form, but it really hasn't paid off. Berbatov can go back in my squad. He was in my original squad, so perhaps he'll be in my final one too.

I'll be annoyed if I don't finish ahead of you though. I've managed to stay between 2-10 points ahead of you for ages now :p
