I'm sure we've all seen some kind of movie or perhaps through real life experiences, heard of drill instructors calling people "maggots." But has anyone here ever actually seen a maggot in real life?

Today I just did. Story: Before I had to mow the lawn I noticed a garbage can was knocked over, probably via local raccoons (damn coons). Being the responsible one of the house I knew if I didn't clean it, it wouldn't get cleaned. So I get some latex gloves and begin to clean it... The smell was indescribably awful. After cleaning half of it, I noticed something, odd, twisting, white ovals. Thats when I realized, I had been cleaning maggot infested trash.

There'll be plenty of time to have them all over me when I'm a corpse. For now, I prefer to avoid them at all costs and so far I'm successful.

I found a bag in the woods bursting with maggots, it was disgusting and I don't want to know what was in that bag.

Not that I can think of at the moment, thankfully. I remember that one of my previous neighbours told me that their squishy ball of the earth was infested by maggots.

I've never encountered any maggots in reality, and seeing as I plan on being cremated I won't meet many after death either.

Nope. Saw lots of other corpse bugs though when my dog brought in a few days dead mouse into the house.

Man up GB! Any real man could walk through 2 feet of maggot infested trash, you dramaqueen!

There's a bird outside my apartment at the bottom of the steps that has been dead for about four days.
It's pretty much covered right now.

I've heard horrifying stories about them but have never had the pleasure of encountering any myself.

they only eat dead flesh due to the enzymes they use to break down said food of choice. as such, maggots grown clean are used by doctors to clean wounds that are prone to infection.

also i've seen maggots yes. rotten dead animals are usually host to them and other creepy crawlies.

I don't understand how a human could grow them.

Maggots actually only eat rotting flesh so far as I know therefore they can be used medicinally to eat away corrupted flesh in a wound. Of course this would not mean I'd like that and whilst I've eaten African Giant Ants, Crocodile, Ostritch, Bison and Scorpions (and some others too but not listing all of them here) I've not yet had maggots, though I'm tempted to have maggots some time soon, best to make sure Ewa will still kiss me (even after scrubbing my teeth/tongue/rinsing with mouthwash) first though.

I've seen maggots.

On the subject of disgusting food - I once bit into an apple and a HUGE BLACK BEETLE crawled out. About half the length of your little finger. I felt like throwing up. I hurled the apple out of the window and it flew across the street. It was absolutely disgusting, I'd never seen a bug like it.

Maggots don't disgust me; maggots on food I am about to eat and/or have already started to eat, that is a different story.

I work in a factory making petfood and any damaged cans that have been left lying around for a bit get really maggoty. Cleaning up the other day i picked up a can and it just fell apart in my hand covering me in the little f***ers.
